Let’s hope that coke remains unattractive to the population, because if you look at the impact in Tonga, Samoa, Fiji it’s been horrendous. Once the “free coke” runs out, domestic meth takes hold.
The Marshalls have been one of the half dozen or so major shipping registry states for a while. Nothing to do with cocaine.

These days if someone isn't already doing it you can almost be certain it's not worth the squeeze.
Exporting cocaine has never been the issue. It's the importing that's the difficult part.

I’m 6+ years sober now from an intense speedball addiction. one time back in the day I found a baggie of coke in an alley and I actually injected it. it seemed awesome at the time (free drugs - so lucky!) but I am def glad those dark days are behind me haha

this reminds me of a plotline in a scanner darkly where one of the character claims to be able to extract cocaine from aerosol cans.

The cans are supposed to be sunburn relief medication. You can find similar IRL which is legal and contains lidocaine. Lidocaine is a common adulterant in cut cocaine because of its numbing properties. In the story, the sunburn spray is alleged to have cocaine instead of lidocaine, which can be extracted by separating it from the oils by spraying it into a plastic bag and freezing it.

Rare Earth: Breaking Betel
"A boring drug for deceptively boring people" one of the best definitions I ever herd.
Considering cigarettes can go for $70 a packet and a bottle of whiskey will cost up upwards of $60 here in the great bastion of freedom that is Australia, I would say that cocaine is a much more viable alternative. Weed certainly is.
How insane is it that street drugs are cheaper than legal drugs.
This is what happens when you have a huge island with a small population (relative to its size) with a two party system that make you choose (voting is compulsory here) between a turd sandwich and a giant douche.
And that's $60 for a bottle of paint stripper. If you want something half decent it's well over $100. The Government excise (tax) comprises a fair bit of it, but hey, funding has to come from somewhere.
Given how much of a load smoking and drinking related health problems put on the public health system it's probably fair to expect the people who smoke and drink the most to pay the most. I don't drink much at all (the last case of beer I bought lasted 10 months) and I don't smoke at all (well, not tobacco anyway) so I'm cool with paying a bit extra if I have to.
It is pretty mad that illicit drugs, as expensive as they are, are cheaper than the legal ones. It will be interesting to see what happens when the respective governments finally wake up to themselves and legalise cannabis, that's definitely coming at some point, especially if we can restrain ourselves from voting in the backward conservatives again. Prescription weed is comparable to street weed now, believe it or not. Roughly $120 for 10 grams of 20% THC, freeze dried so it will keep for ages. Unsurprisingly the medical fraternity are campaigning heavily against legalisation, I can't imagine why, lol. They just switched from opioids to cannabis and they are addicted to the income stream. If prescription cannabis goes on the PBS it will be like $30 for 10 grams, no street dealer could ever compete with that. But of course the government will stuff it up, there's nothing surer.
No wonder there are so many Aussie expats.

This and the Azores story are very interesting in that it's essentially collateral destruction. We think about how the drug trade impacts the countries that produce and consumer the drugs, but rarely about how even the countries in between can be effected.
That is why all drugs need to be legal for those over 18 years old
Truth. I saw a documentary about what illegal drug manufacturers were doing to the environment in some communities in the EU. Toxic chemicals being dumped into groundwater or on farms.... Hopefully someone can figure out some ways to stop/slow this latest wave of drug use.

Here in my hometown in Texas I worked with some Marshallese folks at a factory and they always were chewing the beatle nuts and spitting in the trash cans. I was offered a try and I was handed a leaf wrapped around a green nut. I already chew tobacco so I figured the beatle nut would be tame but I was wrong. I tried it and was buzzing pretty hard. The taste was okay. It just isn't for me 🙂
