- The Tesla Cybertruck has the ability to power your home in case of an electricity outage with a feature called Powershare. The full backup feature is waiting for a software update, but this video goes over the process of getting the equipment (Tesla Gateway and Universal Wall Charger) and having it installed by a Tesla certified electrician.
The installation was completed by Car Charger Specialists in Atlanta:

Just met you at the charging station. I was the guy that asked how your dogs liked the truck. Was not expecting this high of quality content. Excited to see what’s next.
Thanks! Nice meeting you. I'm watching your apex games now.
I just saw you driving on the highway in Atlanta Georgia
@@Whippedlotus9 awesome, hope I used my turn signals correctly
That was an amazing video!!!! Thanks for doing such a great job breaking down all the details!!!!
He a cool dude in person I was curious on what the cyber truck looked like on the inside because I never seen it before but always wondered . He let me take a look and informed me a little more about the cyber truck . I appreciate you , you gained an loyal subscriber I will most definitely be getting me one soon
Congrats on the new ride and very nice walkthrough of the PowerShare. I assume we'll see an update video someday when they actually turn on that feature. ☺ I'll need a ride next time you are around here!
I live in the ATL and got mine installed last week. I got a banner in the Tesla app showing how to use Powershare. The option to turn it on showed up at the same time in the controls menu and in the vehicle. My Powershare works.
I'm jealous. When did you take delivery of the truck?
@@LifeOnTech I took delivery Apr 27 in Duluth. My Powershare was probably available the day after install. But I didn't realize it until I poked thru the banner that appeared in the app.
did you have to call tesla to have the banner on your app, mine was installed a month ago and not showing up !!! Or the electrician activated it for you? my installer dont have a clue!!!
@@jacobpulickal4381 I did not call or do anything. It just showed up. Do you have powerwalls? I know that impacts things.
Nice and Congrats! I live in Buford.. getting our PowerShare installed on the 20th!
Awesome, let us know how it turns out.
So just a few comments.
1. The V2 Gateway and the 3-wire Gen 3 wall connector you mentioned are not compatible with PowerSharing unless you have the PowerWall system already installed and working.
2. For a stand-alone setup (no other Tesla power systems in the house), you will need a 3V (yes, 3V, not a typo) gateway with a "neutral balancing transformer" that the PowerWall system normally provides.
3. Additionally, you'll need the new (not available yet) 4-wire wall connector that can carry 12V power back to the 3V gateway when there's an outage (the current one is three-wire)
This is my understanding.
Yes, plus software that's not available yet.
Tesla makes them do that before activating the system because it’s so new that if they screw something up you’re going to blame tesla and potentially sue them.
So they want to make sure that to install their stuff it has to be done properly so it won’t cause any problems in the future from being incorrectly installed.
It decreases the likelihood something goes wrong which limits their liability and keeps the warranty valid too.
Hi, I just received my cybertruck. 'I already have solar panels with 2 Powerwalls version 2 installed. My Tesla wallcharger is connected to a dedicated 60 amp/230 breaker in my breaker box. How would the cybertruck home charging be installed? My gateway is outside close to the grid meter. There is a city required shutoff on the house also.
05:42 Did you use 4 AWG or 6 AWG wire?
So they ran Romex inside of your conduits?
Yeah, that run to to the charger doesn't look up to code. Looks indeed like Romex NM cable (likely 6/2). If so - two violations there - can't run Romex in conduit, and need THHN #6 for the 60A rated circuit. Running the communication cable in that conduit with the power is ok, but the power is suspicious - unless that is some special cabling.
The Ford system does not work, and neither Ford, nor Sunrun will support it. *Possibly* if you have Sunrun install it, but then you have to deal with them putting screws through your livingroom wall. The equipment costs $6k, my install was $7k, and Ford charges you $500, "for the privilige".
Good information. I had no idea how the Ford system was set up and was wondering if it worked well
Great content!! You are first!! WAY cheaper than a $14,000 Generac. Excellent job.
Were you in Colorado in August 2024
Mayyybeee… if the person was driving bad, then no. Otherwise, yes I was in Colorado
I’m guessing a 200A service disconnect is outside?
Weird that you dont have it working now. Others in the forum have it going now. Maybe something hasn't updated right or a problem with commissioning.
Also your 3V gateway and UWC are not required for thise with existing Powerwall and connector:
For Customers with Powerwall
If your home is equipped with Powerwall and home charging, you do not require any additional equipment. Powershare Home Backup functionality with Powerwall is expected to be available later this year through an over-the-air update. All AC Powerwall variants will be compatible with Powershare Home Backup in the future.
Great video. Very informative.
I am getting my CT and will be using Powershare as a backup when we have power outage (which is rare here). Much cheaper than getting a PW3.
Does the system switch to CT automatically if there is an power outage?
How much was installation?
Is your powershare V2G working yet
As in will the Truck Power the House?
Had mine fitted but they are saying still waiting for update?
Great video = thanks
Thanks this was very helpful i just got my cybertruck. I just odered a universal wall connector. Was i supposed to receive that for free ? Or is it just the installation I will get savings on ?
Thanks for the video
What was the quote amount for installation? Sounds like about $2100?
Yes, right around $2,300
ATTENTION PLEASE READ WE JUST PASSED YOU IN YOUR CYBERTRUCK IN KENTUCKY ON ROUT 75!!!
What size conduit do I need to rough in before I close up my drywall. I just confirmed my Foundation series two weeks ago. My confirmation reply was a delivery of no later than the end of September. Do you think that’s possible? Thanks for the info. We are hanging drywall at the present time
Do you know what size and type the communication wire is, I'm seeing on a search I see 22 gauge shielded twisted pair but can't really confirm that. The red wire you spoke of. I'm running the wire this weekend and want to run the right wire with the power it even though I don't have the gateway yet to be ready for my next tesla with powershare. thanks
Is the gateway capable of taking a solar input as well?
How about you say how much you actually paid for the install.
$2,400
W
Tesla free install or they will charge extra?
I'm getting ready to have some PW2s mated to my Enphase PV system and my installer claims the Gateway 2 they have spec'd and the Gen 3 HPWC (I already have) will support future PowerSharing when Tesla enables other Tesla's to do the same. Is that correct? Or should I ask to have a Gateway 3V installed now?
Dang I average about 115kwh/day at my house. Don't think the Powershare is going to work for me. Tesla credit it is. Thanks for the video and the nice explanation.
So if you have tesla solar and you purchase a foundation series your paying for equipment you already own ???? And FSD that isn’t available and you lose 7,500 rebate because the purchase price is over 80,000 LMAO WHAT???? Why would anyone do this even if you didn’t have tesla solar why??
Those truck look so bad
hey this guy paid over $100k so clearly he thinks it looks good and will be a pleasure to drive for years. If he thought it would be a complete failure or super ugly he would have kept his $
Those trucks look so awesome!
@womplestilskin Your opinion are just your opinion and not fact. Always remember that.
