I think Scaloni deserved a few more points for bravery in the extra times. I think Scaloni should get a bit more credit for this game. He played with 3 CBs vs NED who played with 3 CBs most of their games and they had more experience with this formation. Against van Gaal who is a tactician mastermind, Scaloni had a perfect game for 83 mins when NED scored their 1st goal on their first shot on the target. And some could argue that 10 mins of added time was a bit exaggerated and NED scored for 2-2 in 90+11 after they prepared the free kick for at least 2 mins.

      @Lightning_Lance Pƙed rokem +3

@@22masz exactly. when you rely on counters, every opportunity must be used. When the ref whistles anytime you get close to the goal (on either side mind you, but it hurts the dutch strategy a lot more) then it just completely cancels that strategy. Yes Argentina played better, but the dutch also weren't allowed to get any momentum going. Makes perfect sense to just bring in some tall attackers and start lobbing balls and avoiding the defense as much as possible because when they tried anything else there was a whistle before they can get near the goal
If there's anything the dutch need to get better at, it's first of all penalties but secondly it's to get better at selling flops and looking innocent. The Argentinians have their game on lock in that. And I'm not blaming them, that's just what football has become

Plus nobody dribbles these days, even brazil, argentina the creative joga bonito guys. Nobody shoots from 20-30m to destabilize defenses, rather they try to pass the ball tiki taka fashion. I think he knew he's offensive players had the creativity to eventually produce a few out of the box plays (he would also have used Di Maria earlier if Messi alone wouldn't have suffixed for that end) and he focused on tie all the other variables. His only (big) mistake was to think that the match was decided a little bit early to preserve yellow carded players. It was a bet that failed but one with reasonable odds so a three is too much of a punishment.
And I wouldn't say it was a poor game because the way these coaches worked to block the other one paying a lot of attention to details was pretty interesting to watch.

Well i disagree, if you consider creating less chances is bad. He is playing south American tactics where you don't really score goal where game is tight and you have to pace physical player, You chose very balanced team and only rely one good chance rather than casting and commeting too many players forward. This can also be seen in Italian gameplay or just like what Germany Player in both 1990 and 2014 finals. Argentina bossed midfield they do not look like team who will play good in midfield probably because almost 6-8 player are very underrated and under the radar. Two pole diflection of Fernadez have been problem and of course I would blame reff for showing off horrible match referring , Timber made 7-9 could should have been sent off before 60 mints.

What are you talking about. On the Dutch side most fouls were light or because the ref didn't like you talking back to him. Argentina didn't get carded for insane challenges. Timber did nothing out of the ordinary for the first 90mins except push a Argentinian player for taking the ball and fouling a Dutch player. It was only in extended time where he could've been sent off imo, but in extended time the ref didn't card anyone for fouling. So I found that fait. Argentina limited the Dutch till the 80 min. The Dutch had 1 shot and 0 shots on target. Especially since, people don’t talk about how lahoz gifted the Dutch a nonexistent foul in the 80 min. Paredes tackled gakpo which was a clean tackle all ball but lahoz gave them a gifted free kick which led too the first goal, than gave the Dutch 10 DAMN MINUTES of stoppage time which is absurd

From a fan of the orange,, i got to say ...Oh my god , what a heart breaking GAME!! i m really sad!!!
-Argentina were horrible with their dark arts, constant falling over , and acting
-Argentina were like playing at home,, i wonder where are the dutch fans?!!
-again Bergwijn and De roon were so disappointing and Memphis was not upto the occasion..
    - the ref was terrible and I wonder how Argentina finished the game with 11 players on the pitch!!
-i thought the subs from van gaal were so good! .. Berghuis was mesmerizing with his passion , distribution and his threat in the final third.
    - Weghorst was clinical and effective too.
-As I expected before the WC, the orange will have issues on that left back position due to the pace of Blind, and you saw how he was out run by the guy who scored the first goal .
-I thought that the orange were miles better after replacing blind and switching to 4 at the back.
-I have to say that i was impressed by come back from the team after that passive first 70 minutes.
-the worst thing in the game in my opinion was the penalty that was gifted to Argentina by the unnecessary challenge from Dumfries.what were u thinking for god sake!!!!! it was terrible costly mistake which made us forget his heroics against USA.
-i was in disbelief .. I never thought that the team will just sit back after that dramatic equalizer ,,i was expecting that we would go and pressurize them in the extra time but that was not the case and once the ref whistled for the Penalty kicks , I knew that it was over!
    - My moment of the tournament will always be when we scored that equalizer , it was a pure moment of madness and i will never forget that!! Thanks to Van Gaal and the team for the shown spirit in the WC and let us hope for a better display in the nations league and the upcoming Euros with Koeman.-

Netherlands were tactically solid but uninspired. Argentina completely outplayed them until DePaul (who played with a minor injury) had to come out, as Messi and Alvarez tired out. After that, the "tactical genius" Van Gaal simply put two 2 meter tall number 9s and sent Van Dijk into the box to play crosses, and got extremely lucky (as they had previously through the championship). Argentina were simply exhausted and the physicality took its toll. There are many things that whiteboard tactics and numbers just don't capture, for example, how much it hurts to get body checked by someone who's 30cm taller and 20kgs heavier than you -- and the Netherlands used this the whole game. In the end, a good and deserved win for Argentina.

but that's part of Van Gaal's strategy, to tire out the other team and be better in the second half. And I don't know what other strategy you can possibly use when the ref whistles every time they get close to the goal.
Besides that, it's a sport. If someone is taller and stronger, that's an advantage they have that is just as fair as someone being more talented or having more endurance imo.
