@Ziggi Mon weeeeell, you can either make another cup, or perhaps save the rest of a longer video for another day. Or of course just watch content that doesn't go into as much detail. I could do shorter versions, but they wouldn't cover everything I want to get across. Maybe just watch the first 10 minutes and stop there - you'll still have got plenty of information.

Good honest factual review. I have X-H1 and wanted a smaller lighter carry around, so bought the X-T30 and 'kit' lens 18-55mm. Blown away with it so far. Such a fun camera to use and image quality is fantastic. Don't forget to update firmware to latest version 1.01, from Version 1.00 incorporates the following issue:
    1. Improved operability of the Q (quick menu) button
To avoid accidentally opening the Q (quick) menu, the button reaction time has been increased.
    * FUJIFILM Corporation plans an additional firmware update in June. This will allow customers to use the Q button as a Fn button. This planned update also allows the user to disable the Q button and adds it as a choice in the Function (Fn) Settings enabling the option to assign it to a different Fn button.
Love the fact that Fujifilm listen and react to their customers.

A really nice review. I'm watching this AFTER I bought the camera, but anyway. :D
Some more information regarding the video function I found important:
    - There is NO time limit when you capture video only via HDMI (disable recording on SD Card)
    - "HDMI only" works with 4K and 1080p (the X-T200 for example doesn't allow external 1080p without an SD Card)
    - You can choose 4K and 1080p output via HDMI for preview (X-T200's HDMI output in preview is always lower than 1080p)
    - This way the temperature warning appeared after 30 minutes and the camera shut down after 50 minutes
    - A small fan behind the camera allowed for over 3 hours of 4K video without temperature warning

But Sony is lacking the main thing I love about XT2. Film simulations, easy to use dials, menu system. It just works and is a joy to shoot with. As a non fuji user, it would have been helpful if you immediately explained what the Q-menu is when you referenced it - the same way if one should reference the meaning of initialisms in case these are not obvious to the audience like DR (dynamic range) or DR (disaster recovery) which may both apply to a photography workflow depending on the context. Brand specifics need more clarity. Thanks

Thanks! Yes, I saw Gerald Undone mentioning that. It really depends on the thickness of the plastic surrounding the plugs themselves, but it will be v tight at best. I just tried my HDMI cable and my Mac USB C cable and it was too tight to use them both at the same time sadly.

Great review as always Gordon. Some great choices for everyone now - you could argue aps-c is more than good enough as your tests show it actually bests the larger sensor'd eos-rp in video modes.
One suggestion about the lack of flippy screen - I know it's less than ideal but now the apps are so good it's possible to mount a mobile phone on the hotshoe with a cheap mount with the app on it and voila a viewable screen that you can put anywhere :)

Thank you for this great in-depth Review!. I am still not sure if I should go with the xt30 18-55 + an additional lens 35mm for example (ore just one great lens) Or the Xt3 +18-55 - I will be using it with the Mavic mini drone and GoPro hero 7 black. Mainly for travel + Street photography & video . I am not that expert when it comes video making but want to start working on creating travel videos and instagram videos. which one would you recommend. is the only 30fps in video and not weather sealed really a down side? (Also less manual buttons (iso/shutter) compared to Xt3. Thanks

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  Před 4 lety

Hmm, good question. It depends which body you prefer in your hands. The XT30 is smaller, but the XT3 isn't exactly big and for me feels better. I'd go for the XT3 and consider adding different lenses in the future as budget permits. But if you need a complete system right NOW, then the XT30's cheaper price will get you there sooner.

thanks for your usual thorough and thoughtful vid. i have read that on the x-t30 there is not enough room to use the headphone jack 2.5 -> 3.5 adapter AND the usb -> mic adaptor at the same time. Hey. Thank you for the video. I don't understand English well, so I just watched. Help please with the choice of camera. I choose between Sony Alpha 6400 + SEL18135 and Fuji X-T30 Kit 18-55 OIS. I can't work with photoshop. It is necessary just for normal use. I want to shoot photos and videos. I lean more towards Fuji, because it seems that the colors on it are better. But sellers in stores say that bad autofocus, face is lost. That Sony is better, but harder settings and colors are not like that. Help please, I will be very grateful for the answer.

Great review, but unless I missed it there's no mention of the auto scene modes? That feature also differentiates it from the X-T3 making it quicker and easier for less professional photographers to quickly snap a photo without the need to manually make adjustments all the time. It's the one feature I miss when I moved from my mid-range Nikon to my Fuji X100F. My X100F regularly likes to use the lens wide open resulting in a very shallow depth of field, and as a result I almost always need to make manual adjustments.

Well I don't want to sound like im defending cameras without a flip out screen and id really like it if fuji used the xt100 screen on all their cameras however when i did have a camera that had a flip out screen while sitting only 3 feet away I couldn't see whether I was in focus or not or much anything else for that matter so im definitely looking more towards larger lightweight monitor. Maybe when they come out with 4 inch flip out screens ill care more but right now most of them are useless for me.

Having a hard time deciding between X-T3 and X-T30.
Switching from Nikon DSLR the most desicive argument will be the grip/ comfort on such a small camera.
Intend to combine with XF 18-135 because of extra focal length and minimal IQ differance to 18-55.

Very helpful review Gordon, thanks. I'm trying to chose between X-T30, X-T3 and Sony A6400 (or a lower version) as a first camera for my 12 yr old daughter who is starting to show an interest in photography.
I use a sony A74 and have a 20mm G, 35mm GM, 85mm 1.8 and sigma 24-70 2.8. Apart from the 20mm i think my lenses on Sony APS-c would be too big overall for her and think the benefit would be in smaller native APS-c lenses. The Fuji do look nicer and the direct controls may make it easier to learn. And the better jpeg processing might make it more fun. What would you recommend for her?
