Söngvakeppnin 2024 - My Top 10 (with comments) [Icelandic ESC Selection]

Oh boy, Iceland...lots of issues with this one, from the selection itself being weak to people acting like RÚV is gonna destroy Eurovision or something because they dared to have a Palestinian in their selection...even though he himself said that he's been working on his entry since August and as such was not brought into the contest specifically for political reasons. 🍉
As I said, though, this selection is extremely weak and a real contender for my least favorite of the year (I'd have to really think hard about whether I like this or DMGP less). I legit had no idea what to say for like 3/4 of these songs, so if my comments seem rushed, that's because they are lol. On the whole, Iceland seems to have a real problem of picking songs with absolutely no personality in them; this was also an issue last year, and both times it's made for selections that are extremely dull and hard to sit through.

Thoughts on Hera's win and Bashar's co-writer demanding a revote?
Personally love Hera and her 2010 entry was my winner of the year, but, this one just sounds like a generic 2016 pop song you'd hear on the radio everyday, was better in Icelandic I guess but neither version is "great".
I think whatever Iceland sent it would NQ, only one I could see maybe pulling off a Q is Bashar I guess, I still like Hera's song more though.

A lot of people are claiming that the NF was rigged and I just don't see it at all. Iceland has literally the only broadcaster that was willing to protest Israel, it would make no sense for them to suddenly rig the NF against a Palestinian lol. Especially since they were the ones that allowed him in the selection in the first place.
As for Bashar's team demanding a revote, apparently there were some glitches with the voting so it makes sense. Again, though, that doesn't necessarily mean rigging.

Should've been long gone for several reasons. What they've been doing in Gaza is horrific (especially since, as an American, it's largely been funded by our taxes), and their broadcaster KAN has been caught promoting war propaganda and violating EBU rules on multiple occasions. These touch on the same reasons why both Russia and Belarus have been kicked out, but the EBU (and much of the rest of the world) has refused to take any action here.
For my part, I've been making it a point to not interact with Eurovision on official platforms (actually pretty easy because almost all of the music videos are available elsewhere and I just download the rest lol), and I will not be covering Israel's entry if they don't get removed.

Nope. Too many songs for me to be interested and there's basically no cutdown at all (same reason I haven't ranked FiK). Not to mention how anal RAI's Sanremo Content ID claims are
