I've said it from the start, Joe Public are paying for the cost of living crisis twice... We have to struggle with our own bills going up, but also have to pay for the supermarkets and shops as well, as they've increased their prices to maintain their profits, rather than absorbing the extra costs like we have to.

youre right lee, shops are putting their prices up no matter how much things cost. petrol prices should be down but the garages are not doing it either.its a feeding frenzy and its causing misery through greed

I'm sick to the back teeth of places jumping on the band wagon because of "THE COST OF LIVING CRISIS", every single week when we do our shop items have jumped up in price, not just by a few pence but some 50 to 75 pence at a time. There should be a price cap it's getting totally ridiculous now, in the last 2 years our weekly bill has gone from £100 to £160 for the same food. 🤬

I like The Morrisons. Is there a national shortage of teaspoons? Morrisons Chester never have any either. Staff are lovely. Place is clean tidy and run efficiently...apart from lack of teaspoons. Brekky is excellent generally, and good value, and served up quickly. 9/10. Those ketchup sachets do my 'swede' in. Normally give up and launch them. You talk the virtual exact things I think and mutter to myself. Luvin' it, chortle chuckle.

Local Fish n Chips shops in London are charging £13 to £14 for a large cod and £11 to £12 for medium. Medium chips £4 and large nearly £6. Another thing I've noticed is supermarkets are reducing the pack size and still charge the same unit price. What a scam!!!😡

We’re definitely being ripped off - costs are increasing while portion sizes are getting smaller! My friend posted a photo of half a dozen onion rings with a bit of mayonnaise she was served up today in Cornwall, no salad either, for £9.75! I’ve pretty much stopped having a takeaway coffee as a treat, can’t justify paying a fiver for a drink, so I get good ground coffee and make my own!

to address the vinegar situation as someone who works in the same job . we have had the same situation but with ketchup you see once we have ran out of certian items we are not allowed to just get some of the supermarket floor as the igredients can be different for both , and we have to follow a strict list of things we can have due to allergerns etc. so that might be the reason they had no vinegar

  • @allthingsdougedebordeaux3790

I agree that many restaurants are using cost of living to bump up prices far higher than is really just. I’m in particular focusing on the large chains which buy in bulk and get big discounts already off the suppliers. I’m even more frustrated when you now pay a fortune to eat out and the food is below par and leaves you walking out of the restaurant after a meal feeling ripped off and deflated.

More reason to sack it off though to be fair but when you want something quick and don't want to cook that is why we like to choose one but it's so expensive. Hi Lee. Maybe it's just here in North Wales, but fish and chip shops have gone much more expensive over the last two or three years. They used to be a quick economical meal, for example, say sausage, chips and gravy for about £3, same thing now would be closer to £6.
A Chinese takeaway used to be a treat for us, maybe once a month, but they have NOT upped their prices so much, maybe a portion of chips has gone from about £1 to £1.20 for instance, plus the portion size means left overs for the next day.
Probably why chippies here are quiet and Chinese takeaways always seem to be busy.
Greed, taking advantage and shooting themselves in the foot springs to mind.

As for the milk, sugar, and seasoning packets, they have always run out lol. You found the same thing we have a few times, it is share the vinegar and sauce bottle between tables. I ask why?, just like you did. These small things that are not attended too take away from a much better food experience. Hi Lee. Well perhaps a little late to the party as far as I am concerned but great to hear your sound advice, which was backed up this morning by GB news that we ARE bing ripped off. I have personally thought this for a couple of months now as the more it became the focus of the mainstream news the more suspicious I became, so I had taken the attitude and told all who would listen to resist, vote with your feet, sacrifice where you think you ar being ripped off and just stop buying those items or going to that store.
I hope with the following you have, you can raise the profile of this passive resistance which will effect and reduce prices as the only place to hit big business is in their pocket, in fact ANY business, as they need our custom. Those of us who are of the generation that think for ourselves and are not comfortable with being controlled must set an example and demonstrate there is power in the pound in our pockets and we have choices. You do such a good job leading the resistance to the EV project, this is another as you have identified where there is an injustice and an awakening to be had. Thanks for your work. 8/10 too for the food but the price needs to be more affordable, then we buy more, then we employ more, then we get the country to start to recover; and not just financially but in that the people see they recover their power and have the power and will not be lions led by donkeys in the future.

I blame the food delivery apps during the lockdown for the rate increase of restaurant menus. Here’s why. Historically restaurants have always competed with one another via foot traffic and the ability to get customers in the door. During the pandemic, food app delivery services were charging additional fees and restaurants were having to raise prices. Also people were going to order food from wherever, no matter what the cost, and restaurants knew this as well. So those two criteria of (lack of) competition and demand are what fuelled higher menu prices.

I also blame the Waze app for destroying my evening work commute. As people used the app, they learned lesser known side streets to avoid the freeways (in this case highway 101 in California). So what used to take me 20 minutes to drive 8 miles, was now taking 45 min to one hour.

Lee, I could not agree any more about the price increases.
Yes we all know there is an inflation crisis so we should expect an in-line with inflation increase in every day things. However, I strongly believe that businesses are adding their own sheer greed tax on top of an already grim situation. The greed crisis that exists now is a greater problem than the inflation crisis in my strong opinion.

Normally they are allowed to grab things like vinegar off the shop floor. Strange that.
