  • The small workshop adventures tour. A small workshop should not limit you in what you can make and build. By thinking creatively and using each bit of workshop space carefully, you can have a workshop to rival the big ones. It’s not about size it’s how you use it.

That’s really small I thought a 10x12 was small but this is small. I’m impressed by what you did. Thank you 🙏 ❤

I love what you have done with the space you have. I wasn't sure if my new shed would be enough for my tools etc. I just got a new full pressure treated 10 x 6 pent shed that I will be putting together this week weather permitting.Good old British weather. LOL. I am happier now seeing what you did with you space and I should be ok now with my shed. I wanted a bigger one but not a lot of space left in my back garden. Thank you for the tour My friend. You have done an outstanding job with everything. I have also subscribed to your channel. Be safe and have a great weekend. 👍👍👍👍

New subbie here. I found this channel at the right time. We're doing a massive clear out on the house and 2m x 2m coal shed/gather everything until it's pouring out shed. I'm taking over the shed as we go and am currently putting up some pegboards and wall cubbies that I got on amazon. Budget v low. Re-using the existing shelves in the shed to hopefully make a wee foldaway workbench that Ana White had. I've always dreamed of doing woodworking but as a girl in secondary school in the 80's I was not allowed to choose that subject. "Only boys did woodworking and only girls did home economics". They wouldn't get away with that now. And here I am at 53, gathering up a nice wee collection of tools bit by bit and finally carving out a little space to play with wood and the smell and the feel of it. I cannot wait. And it is a small space but seeing your space has inspired me so much. I love that little half gate support. Brilliance. I hope you did a video on how you set up that router because I'm off to search for it. So happy to have found you when I did. Thanks from just across the channel here in Ireland.

Thanks so much bluecurlygirl for your sub and the comments made. It’s really appreciated. Brilliant to have a female doing woodwork on my channel. Your so right about the 80s. There’s so much on my channel as you may have noticed. Great to hear you’re setting up a workshop I wish you the best with it.
I livestream most Thursdays 7pm alternating between my channel and a CZcams friend Weekend shed head. If you want to join us all you will be most welcome. . I’ve noticed that you have watched one of my garden room builds. There are others also on the channel.
      Take good care
      Mark

It looks like you have some artificial turf just outside your workshop. That's brilliant, it is always green and never needs cutting. My workshop is small by American standards but larger than your shed. It is in my basement (crawlspace) and the floor size is 10 feet by 20 feet. I feel a bit constrained at times, but I am inspired by many of the UK woodworkers like you who have tiny shops but do amazing things. Thanks for the new tour!

I adnire your attitude very much! I have a single car garage where half is a utility and i work in the other half. I get REALLY frustrated at times. It just seems that no matter where you want to work, something is in the way! Argh!

Great use of the space you have available.
Often smile when I see 'small workshop' tours on YT and they are 1000 sq foot or more - pleased that this represents the kind of space that a lot of folk in the UK have where even a single garage is a luxury 🙂

Thanks so much for the tour and the great ideas. My shop is 12 ft. x 12 ft. with great overhead space. Unfortunately, it's become more of a storage unit and less of a workshop, but you gave me some good thoughts on how I can combine the two and still have room to do the work I want to do. Thanks again from Nashville.

Is this a TARDIS?? Yes it is! TARDIS stands for "Timber And Relative Dimensions In Spruce"! So, yes it is officially a TARDIS! 😉

Enjoyable, interesting, thought provoking. Yes to the constant shed evolution idea, and the idea of doing what is "right for you". I tend to drown in what tools and materials I can't let go of; where my shed-care activity tends to come down to re-arranging things to create space for making things for the world outside the shed.

I really, really like your modest workshop and I suspect that you get more enjoyment out of it than many get out of a bigger shop. I particularly like the position of your vise to allow long stock to stick out of the door, but there are so many good ideas. Very well done.

Can definitely see how your workshop is evolving. In the middle of changing my layout but the cold weather is making progress slow. redone the roof, and added bubble wrap insulation, then the floor needs beefing up before I add better storage. Keep the vids coming, take care 👍

Hi mark working in a little workshop like mine every thing has to have it’s own place for it to work. Putting my tools back in there place before I move on to the next part of the project helps to. To some people how’re workshops are microscopic to some. Great video of what you can do in a small space 👍👍

Some suggestions- move the window to the eaves, or roof. Even the door. Wall space is too valuable to have low level windows.
Screws and other fixings- boxes are slow and cumbersome to access. Wide shallow drawers under the workbench give clear view and availability.
You do not store tools in workboxes! Poor access, and take excess space. Toolboxes are to carry tools, not to store them
    Clamps- overhead.
Dust collection- outside. High level ports. Matching high level power.
Under bench storage- needs to be fully utilized, ideally full depth drawers. Can hold all those tools, freeing up those shelves.

I love your shop. I have a 10x20 foot workshop that I am trying to get some organization to it. Unfortunately, I just throw stuff in there because I have other things I need to do, or my last project still has stuff around and not organized. I feel overwhelmed but I just need to get out there and spend a few days.
