In today's build I'm forging a damascus US Navy Officer's sword from a piece of arrestor cable from the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier!

As a retired USN Corpsman, this literally gave me chills and a lump in my throat when you did the reveal. This would be perfectly at home in the GW Captain’s quarters reverently displayed on the bulkhead (that’s wall for the non-sailor types). Might be my favorite thing you’ve ever made.

I am a Navy Vet. I was stationed in VF-11 in 1986 for the Med cruise onboard the USS Forrestal. This has got to be one of the coolest things I have ever seen! 100% Go Navy

Great job! I served in the Marine Corps and on ship, I learned sword manual(ceremony) using a Naval Officer Sword. Semper Fi. Thank you for making it to USN specs! Any thoughts on making the USMC NCO Sword? The major difference, our enlisted sword, has a curve
I thought about the NCO cutlass, as well as the Mameluke sword. Since I had the cable from the Eisenhower I figured I better stay USN on this one. 😉

When I was on the Eisenhower, it was cool leave little messages with "IB" written on them, which meant, "Ike Bites." But now, two and a half decades later, I wish I had a sword made from the arresting cable from the Ike. This one was very well done.

I served 10 years on active duty in the USAF before I was medically retired. I left as an NCO but I never managed to get an NCO sword before I got out…. Lord knows I can’t afford one now. I actually tried to find a Used USMC NCO sword for my brother-in-law to give to him when he had his promotion ceremony this past year but just couldn’t swing it. It was a cool ceremony for him though, his father, a retired USAF SNCO &his sister who served 6 years in the Air Force as well pinned his rank on. That was a really cool thing for the family memory for sure. My wife actually teared up a bit when he asked her. She knew it was him honoring her service just as much as his own promotion. I would still like to get my own NCO sword one day though. I know it has little meaning to most, but it’s something I can use to tell my son stories about what his dad did in the military a decade before he was born. I’d love to have been able to take him to work with me just once. So he could see me less like his old disabled dad that can’t do any fun stuff…

That's wild seeing one of these so sharp. My dad still has his in a closet and the only thing it ever cut was the cake at my parents' wedding. That's a great pattern that looks like waves.

Very Nice! What are your plans for the sword? IMHO this sword should be displayed on the wall in the officers meeting room on board the Eisenhower! It should stay with the ship! You have made another blade that will outlive all of us. Well done!

I don't hate hand sanding. It's the most satisfying part of the builds next to the handle finishes. I mean...I don't LOVE it... but I'm a perfectionist with some ocd and I can't deny the way the "before and after pics" make me feel. I hand sanded my first knife for like 8 hours bc It was my first time hand sanding steel... I was learning as I went. Thank you for great content. That is a stunning sword, and I'm so jelly lol!!! 😂 keep it up, we love your content!!! 😊

Not bad for cable Damascus San mai. I really like the fact that you cast the fittings yourself. Those bevel and fuller grinds are great though especially with the complexity.

Denis I have to tell you I don’t know if you got your master smith yet or not but I will say it again, you ARE a master in my mind! You put out some of the most beautiful work on CZcams! Your definitely an inspiration to me! Also I just finished my revolution grinder and was able to test out your sharpening jig and I am now able to get the sharpest blades I have ever made!
