I developed short term memory issues on lowest dose Atorvastain after 3 years. I was very noticeable. My doctor changed my med to Rotuvastatin and after about 2 weeks the issues went away. I have been on Rotuvastatin for about a year and not have developed any memory or other issues. LOL and HIS numbers have been very good. On a Mediterranean diet with extreme amount of exercise. Also started taking vitamin K supplements about a year ago.

I basically follow your channel and Dr Ford Brewer. He focuses much more on cardiovascular inflammation due to insulin resistance and blood sugar issues etc. rather than lowering LDL. He only prescribes rousuvastin or pitavastatin at very low dosages and still sees great anti-inflammatory benefits I would love your thoughts and opinions on his approach please. I'm currently on 10 mg. Rosuvastatin because of high calcium score not cholesterol issues. I'd like to cut that back lower but I know you can't give advice here specifically. Just value your opinion sir. Keep the great videos coming!

Hi Bart, thanks for watching, I haven’t forgotten your question and I am gonna do a “Cholesterol vs Inflammation” video, to address which one is the greater villain overall.
Unfortunately there is no telling how much of your coronary calcification is due to inflammation and how much is due to cholesterol glomming onto side of artery. If you have elevated CRP that suggests inflammation is more of a factor than it would be otherwise.
LDL is not a great predictor for events. But neither are tests for inflammation. Many many people develop blockage and have heart attack without any indication of inflammation. Many people with inflammation do not have blockage.
The CIRT trial used methotrexate as an anti-inflammatory for Coronary Artery Disease patients, it did not work well to reduce events.
Rosuvastatin 10 is as you know an intermediate dose and i think a good choice for someone in your shoes. I personally might consider 20 mg. I generally I wouldn’t recommend lower dose, unless you were having side effects!

A few were found to have calcium scores above 100 (average age range was about 40 to 48). They were given immediate cardiac surgery. Then there was two cases of men with zero CAC scores who had serious heart attacks during that year. Made us wonder and discuss the relevance of zero CAC scores. Although a zero is less meaningful at ages below 45.....

Hi, my doctor prescribes statins rosuvastatin (Crestor) for cholesterol control. After a year I developed what could be similar to Alzheimer's symptoms.
I had difficulty remembering things ( 15 minutes of memory ).I had been tested with the Montreal test and they said that I could have the beginning of Alzheimer's. After that I went to the internet google and CZcams and from there some CZcams doctors told in a video that statins were affecting cholesterol and that the brain made up with a lot of it.
Guest what, I stopped taking those statins and 2 weeks after I didn't have any symptoms. A real miracle, I could have continue taking that medicine and have bad symptoms for the reste of my life. CZcams had made me realize what could have been the source of my problem. No thanks to my doctor and his staff. . LESSON : STATINE ARE NOT WITHOUT RISK!

I was recently placed on Atorvastatin--I "negotiated" to start at 20 mg. My Total and HDL had been creeping up over the years, yet I had a "0" Calcium score, so I felt pretty smug. I had not even had a lipid panel since 2017, with a total of 209, LDL 128, VLDL of 15 and HDL of 66. After a little over a month on Atorvastatin, my numbers are, Total 138, LDL 68, HDL 54. No VLDL done; ApoB was 68. So my Total/HDL ratio went from 3.2 to 2.6. I take 200 mg CoQ10 to ward off adverse effects I have been concerned about for years, and my PCP suggests the Rosuvastatin as an alternative due to its hydrophilic properties if the need arise. While I would like to push that HDL higher, I have not had numbers like this since I was 30. And so far, no issues. (What was I saying, again...?)

    • @bartrobinson2103

I personally would never take a Statin if I had a zero calcium score regardless of what my cholesterol numbers were. My situation is just the opposite I'm extremely fit 59 year old always had perfect basic blood panel but have family history of heart disease. So I did a calcium score four years ago and it was 500. That convinced me to go on a moderate dose Crestor. Not for cholesterol but for the anti-inflammatory and hopefully plaque stabilization benefits.

@@bartrobinson2103 Burning sensation is a grave symptom that either you have diabetic neuropathy (if that also involves pins and needles like sensation/ pin pricking like) or it can also signal some nerve compression along the spine in your lower back (you can visit a chiropractor for that)
Benfotiamine 100 mg (a fat soluble form of Vitamin B1) and a combination of Vitamins B-6, Methylfolate /B-9 and Methylcobalmin /B-12 ) twice a day is what I put my Dad on and saw it fade away recently. He was prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg by his physician. I looked up the side effects of it and decided I won't let his physician do what he wants.
Would you believe that his physician doesn't even look at homocysteine , hs-CRP, Lp(a) , Cystatin C, and other tests like those or even know their significance? Yeah ! So, a little research is always handy. I would also ask you to do a research on Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin) and its effects in Carbohydrates metabolism in the generation of ATP molecules and mitochondrial synthesis. But remember that many Vitamins/Minerals block each others absorption, so having them at different times of the day is the key.
I lost my mother 7 months back to a heart attack. She was the most precious gift to me. Lack of knowledge and awareness killed her and nothing else. I would never be blind to health and awareness anymore.and even spread my knowledge of in need.
Do you know why most of the people die early than their age ? It's because they don't know that their death could have been prevented.
Intermittent Fasting plays a massive role in maintenance of body and my Dad's diabetes 2 came under absolute control post it in these 5 months.
I wish i knew all this already. I always self assume that I am predisposed to a host of diseases genetically and that triggers me to take immediate action thinking that I'm only a meal or a day away from acquiring a chronic disease. I'm 29 years old, who has quit table sugar, wheat products, Vegetable oils, dairy products that contain lactose.
I think veganism is extreme so is Carnivorous or Keto diets. But if learnt that low simple Carb (but High Fibre/since Fibre is a complex Carbohydrate), mediocre protein and fat diets hel immensely.
I consume vitamins , minerals and nutrients and grow many Vegetables like Broccoli, Arugula, Chamomile, Parsley,Celery, Watercress, and much more with an intention of connecting to mother nature and seeing how the chemical constituents in them transform you for better.
I had a similar foot burning sensation (without the tingling ) for which my nerve compression in the spine is responsible and twitching of body parts for years and realised magnesium deficiency caused the twitching , been on it and it has honestly gone away, a twitching that i beared for almost half a decade just gone away with Magnesium supplement. People call me mad and think I'm wasting my youth overthinking no wonder I look 22 at the age of 29 and they look 35 at the same age. The point is nobody can defeat death but what we can do is live and age healthily and save hundreds of thousands in money from future diseases and die when God commands but with no ailments and diseases.
I would also suggest you to do an MRI of your spine and brain if you're older than 40 years of age. Sometimes these are signs of a brain ischemic stroke as well of there's a deposition of plaque in the areas there. I am not scaring you all what I want is for you to take your health very seriously, sometimes tiny things culminate in massive outcomes ( *in fraction of seconds the world turns upside down* ). I pray to God that you have nothing serious but still do take everything even if miniscule , very seriously. Also, do a thyroid panel to see of that's because of some disturbance in thyroid which also culminates into the same.
US much is plagued with loots and plundering of patients and their lives by the Medical -professionals- *businessmen* , the expenses and the way they dig a hole into the pocket. Obviously not all are like that but many are - and this phenomenon is globalislising, better to take things at our hand and charge at it.

I am a life long exercise addict and eat fairly healthy anyway so there wasn't much I could really do on top of what I was already doing. After seven years of 10 mg daily, my HDL went up by 5, my LDL went down to 68 from 147, my total cholesterol went down from 204 to 117 and my Cholesterol to HDL ratio went down from 5.0 to 2.7. Prior to starting the statin I had an EBCT done and my calcium score was 29. So now I hear about the dementia risk regarding the lipophilic statin and am worried. My PCM/GP says not to worry because I am on a very low dose and the benefits outweigh the risks. Does this make sense? I only see her once a year. Should I push for the alternative Rosuvastitin? DAIRY THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY I AM BAD WITH IS BUTTER I HAVE IT ON ALL THE STEAMED VEGETABLES I HAVE OF WHICH I EAT BY THE PLATEFUL!!! OTHER THAN THIS I MAY HAVE 6 SLICES OF BREAD A WEEK USUALLY WITH TINNED TOMATOES ON TOP. IVE NEVER EATEN EGGS THEY TASTE LIKE A WET DOG SMELLS. I'VE NEVER DRANK ALCOHOL I HAVE AROUND 17YRS AGO HAD VERY RARELY A GLASS OF WHITE WINE IN A PINT GLASS TOPPED TO THE BRIM WITH TONIC WATER SO A WINE SPRITZER BUT ONLY ON A SCHOOL STAFF NIGHT OUT I WASNT A LOVER OF DRINK SO I DIDNT NEED TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE DINK IN AN EVENING BACK THEN. NOTHING SINCE MY DAIRY INTAKE IS I WOULD SAY VERY VERY LOW, CHEESE ONLY IF ADDED TO A MOUSSAKA, OR MEALS WHICH HAD IT IN. MY DIET IS VERY BLAND, BORING & ISNT EVEN SEADONED APART FROM BEETS & TOMATOES TO BRING OUT THE FLAVOURS. ADMITTEDLY WHEN I HAD THESE ALWAYS FRESH I DID HAVE A DOLLOP OF MAYO WITH THEM. BUT THAT WAS MANY YRS AGO NOW IF AND WHEN I DO HAVE (V RARELY) I NOW HAVE WITH GREEK YOGURT AS I STARTED TO TASTE EGG THROUGH THE MAYO!
AS SAID IT IS A VERY FUSSY FINIKY FOOD CHOICES MY FAVOURITE ALWAYS PLATES OF STEAMED VEG BUT NOT FOR THE PAST 3YRS ODD AS CARERS DO NOT DO IT HOW I LIKE IT. AND I CANNOT DO IT MYSELF. SO MY VEG IS EITHER STEAMED, ROASTED IN SMALL EXTRA V OLIVE OIL WITH FRENCH BREAD AND GOATS CHEESE MIXED WITH GREEK YOGURT BUT THIS IS A LUXURY VEG DISH TWICE A YEAR. AS STATED IM HAPPY WITH A PLATE OF EVERY TYPE OF VEGETABLE GOING ALWAYS HAVE BEEN AS WERE MY CHILDREN. BUT I ALWAYS WOULD HAVE SAY A DESSERTSPOON OF BUTTER ON MY PLATEFUL OF VEG.& I CAN EAT THIS EVERYDAY .
BUT I DO NOT AS WOTH EVERYTHING THINGS ARE HARDER AND ITS QUICKER FOR A CARER TO DO BEANS, SPAGHETTI, TIN TOMATOES ON TOAST OR A JKT POTATO SWEET OR WHITE WITH THE POTATO THE ONLY TOPPING IS BUTTER BUT IT IS NOT SWIMMING IN A SOUP OF BUTTER ON THE PLATE THE POTATOE HAS ABSORBED IT. I MAY HAVE THIS ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK EVERY 3WKS. I KNOW THIS ALL SOUNDS RIDICULOUS BUT IT IS THE WHOLE TRUTH MY DIET DOES NOT DEVIATE WHICH IS WHY IT IS SO EASY TO RECALL. I HAVE 1 CUP OF T A DAY WITH 2 SUGARS NO COFFEE AND THE REST IS SUGAR FREE FLAVOURED WATER ABOUT A LITRE AND MAYBE HALF A DAY.
MY FATHER HAD TRIPLE HEART BYPASS 24YRS AGO DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT HIS HEALTH AS HE NEVER MAINTAINED CONTACT HE JUST KEPT CONTACT WITH MY BROTHER HE WAS AN ALCOHLIC, AND SMOKER. BTW I WAS A SMOKER GAVE UP 3YRS BACK. AFTER I HAD STARTED AGAIN! PRIOR TO ME STARTING AGAIN I HAD GIVEN UP FOR 10YRS. SO NO SMOKING PAST 3YRS.
IM ASKING FOR HELP WITH ANYTHING & EVERYTHING I DONT KNOW WHAT TO EAT I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. I HAVE BEEN GETTING MUSCLE PAIN TOTALLY DIFFERENT TO MY SPASTICITY IYS EASY TO TELL THEM APART. WITH THE POST YHROMBOTIC SYNDROME MY CIRCULATION CAUSES PARASTHESIAS OF DIFFERENT SORTS SO NOT SURE IF I WOULD NOTICE THERE.
BUT I KNOW IN AMERICA YOU ALL ARE GIVEN YOUR MEDICAL DETAILS AND PAPERS AND UNDERSTAND THINGS BETTER. IN U.K. AS YOU CAN TELL MY G.P DID NOT EVEN TELL ME OF MY CHOLESTEROL LEVELS GOING BACK TO 2015 TO CURRENT DATE WHEN A CARDIOVASCULAR DR RECOMMENDED TO MY G.P ABOUT THE STATINS.
I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP WITH DIETRY OR ANY ADVICE AT ALL. I HAVE ALREADY STOPPED THE BUTTER IN OCTOBER LAST YEAR AND USE BENECOL SPREAD.
      PLEASE ANY ADVICE WELCOMED.

      @CardioGauge  Před 4 lety +8

Hi Jasper Jas, basically if I am starting someone on cholesterol med now I use Rosuvastatin. They are both good medicines, one is not conclusively better than the other. I prefer rosuvastatin because of the possibility (not absolute proof) that there may be less potential for cognitive effect.

An important video, a big thank you to the good doctor. However, please give some thought to your spoken communication skills which are found wanting in just one aspect: your spoken English is pitched at a rate of speed that will leave many native speakers of English failing to understand much of what you have to say. My estimate is that 90% of non-native speakers are unable to understand you and/or your important message. Listeners may comprehend the gist but not much more, a clinical concern for all those involved in healthcare. The success of patient awareness in any interaction with healthcare providers should be in the detail of your verbal presentation, so please moderate the speed of your speech and introduce modulated pauses which will act like written punctuation, commas, etc. Your enunciation is otherwise strong; your syntax, grammar, vocabulary and the like are of a very high standard. Take care.

Studies are there but not 100% confirmed, Atorvastatin is safe if U take it in correct dose. If U overdose U will in problems which applies to every medicine/drugs. Blood brain barrier there Ur brain will not allow anything to cross without its permission 😁😁 Ur body has tremendous capacity to heal itself. Again Dosing holds the Key.🙂🙂😁😁

Hi Berberine Is known to decrease LDL cholesterol, and decrease inflammation after cardiac event. However, it is unknown whether it actually decreases heart attacks and strokes from occurring. I would like to see more research done, proving that it reduces events! I think It is reasonable to take berberine to reduce LDL cholesterol, in conjunction with other dietary interventions.
