If it was on the south pole its shadow would be MUCH longer because the Moon's inclination from the ecliptic is only 5.145 degrees.

ISRO planned these missions during UPA govt itself. But Dr. Singh did not allocate budget to them as Sonia Gandhi didn't clear the files for it.

The only thing I find odd is how did India get a video of this moon craft landing? Because it cant take pictures of itself and there is no satellite in orbit there. So explain this?
India does have an Orbiter still revolving around moon. This Orbiter was deployed in Chandrayaan 2 mission. And I have seen 3 cameras being used here. One is of the lander which shows lunar surface. Other camera shows the rover coming out of the lander. And the third camera is on the rover itself which clicked an image of the lander. So there's Orbiter, Lander and Rover.

The cameras are of great quality. The problem is bandwidth. Not only is there a huge delay between there and here, but when radio signals are sent they get scrambled up by a ton of noise from space, so in order to send data there needs to be a lot redundancy and verification of each byte. That results in very low bandwidth - like being on a dialup modem from 1995.
So the first images we see were sent highly compressed just so we could see something. Higher resolution images and video will come, but it will take days upon days to transmit.
