Seems like ISRO science is not as transparent when we had rockets and satellites launched in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. There were tangible results like live telecasts, long distance telephony, remote sensing etc … lately the outcomes and benefits of missions could not be verified as easily.

It makes sense that the water ice would be buried under a few centimeters of dry regolith. The ice may have been there for millions of years but lunar dust is constantly moved around by static electric forces and micro meteorite impacts, which allows the stuff to cover every bit of its surface. Plus, a layer of regolith could prevent ice from instantly sublimating, much like on Mars.

my guess: The scans detected ice below the surface. Layers of dust and regolith have built up over the top even though its the bottom of the crater. The layers have shielded it even further as time progresses. I'd be interested in seeing some drilling done. Maybe 2-10ft for starters. Maybe round off at 3m.

At least they were able to do it on a cheaper scale but got important data gathered for scientists to study

He's comparing a cheap and expendable mission with an extremely narrow scope to the Artemis missions, which have resulted in a dramatic expansion in space lift vehicles and capacity, and which will place both humans and highly advanced robotic exploration vehicles on the moon, will create humankind's first extraterrestrial space station and place it in lunar orbit, and will pave the way for human settlement of the moon.

India's small and detailed approach on a sensible budget lends itself to the equivalent of lab analysis -- but in situ. This could well lead to small then large coordinated 'swarms' of landers and crawlers coordinated in real time from the earth separately from packets of data being beamed back for later traditional modern best practice.
Too often the 'big boys' of space exploration gather a choking amount of data which take years to process, even using using the fastest computer arrays we have. By splitting the data classification into 2 main types and refining methods in situ it will be possible to save weight on returning samples when the USA, Russia and ESA fulfill planned operations.
If "missing" hydrogen is in places or forms/states we do not have on earth then India's approach is the best bet for finding it.
India will probably work with Russia, China and Japan too because, as a people, directness of purpose is less prone to political distractions than we have seen hitherto.

Every space agency in the world kept tracking the progress and path of Chandrayaan 3 after it was launched .. like mothers and aunts keeping tracks of a baby whether it reaches its destination or not .. I have so much love and respect for everyone and hope we all come together in future to reach unbelievable heights in future and make the UNIVERSE ( not only earth 😊 ) a better place ❤❤.

After watching this, thank you by the way, a thought occurred to me so I set about checking out a few things. It was mentioned that some water vapor was found during Apollo 14. The landing date was Feb 5th. It departed on the 7th. The moon was Wanning that week. The Chandrayaan-3 mission was August 23 to September 5th, during the Waxing, and no water ice was encountered. What I don't know is the exact dates Chandrayaan-1 reported water ice, and if it was during a Wanning.

꒰ღ˘‿˘ற꒱ Hi Alex, thanks again for the space news and knowledge. I have a suggestion based on the billion dollar budget comparisons in this video. I would be interested in a breakdown of costs involved in constructing a mission, from the proposal, spacecraft design, spacecraft build, and operation. Anyway something like that would be interesting. Cheers!

A huge amount of the reason NASA projects are so expensive is the almost militant political funding it gets. The senators/representatives that sign audit and sign off on the funding only do so if it earns them brownie points back home in terms of jobs. So the production and development of all these projects is spread out across the whole country and woefully inefficient.
Compare that to the likes of ISRO, JAXA, ROSCOSMOS even, and they centralise a huge amount of their work, bringing costs way down
