Everybody is hating on MBW, talking about how he isn''t an artist and that he's a fraud when this documentary is about his his life and street art. He literally called himself Mr. Brain Wash, and he scrubbed ya brain real good. He may have not have hand drawn everything his self but he envisioned all of it. everything he had produced was all his ideas but he just had other people make it reality. I'm sure if the artist's wanted credit they would've asked for it. All this is just a great documentary about a guy that just had an obsession with a camera that met some really cool guys who did street art and turned his obsession into a passion, and was then influenced and encouraged by banksy to go do his own thing. dont forget that even before banksy told him to start doing his own thing he had already kinda started. I just dont see how can call this a documentary a joke when it really gives you a real first person insight of the street art/graffiti culture. stop digging so deep to try and find some sort of intense complex meaning of a really interesting documentary and just watch enjoy the hour and half long adventure this culture has brought us.

@@TrevisSpease well, the *doc* says thats what happened but i'm not sure the doc is fully truthful. its interesting MBW showed up with a warehouse full of art for his first show, and that it was in fact at a rather mature commercial and artistic level, covering just about every medium and scale. in the doc thierry also spoke a bit unconvincingly IMO about the backstory of his pieces when talking to press. i think the real artist would have had something to say that resonated more even if he was the supposed hack he was made out to be

If you think about it, it's kind of sad. Terry is this guy who dedicated all his life to something that wasn't there. He had a lot of personal demons. Put his mind in finding someone and praising him like a god. He forgot about his family. He almost gets send to jail for helping banksy. And just as banksy puts it. He wasn't a filmaker, he was a guy with mental problems who happened to have a camera.

The movie is a story by Banksy. MBW, as depicted here, is a character in the story.
Think about it: When 'MBW stops using his camera', why doesn't the camera style change? Why would a long-term camera obsessive suddenly stop using his camera? Would any intelligent wife tolerate his lifestyle and still remain cheerful and uncomplaining? Would any clothing retailer tolerate someone selling 'seconds' at ten or twenty times the normal retail price? A lot of things don't add up, if this is supposed to be a true to life documentary about MBW.
      Nice one, Banksy.

the thing is about art is it speaks to people on its own. it shouldn't be something that is supposed to be known and understood by the artist, through but should be something people discover and misunderstood. when art is misunderstood it makes a grander mark not only about the art and its artist, but as well as what people "understand" about it.

you don't "become an artist overnight," being an artist is when expression is your essential driving force, when you don't know who you are without it, MBW was just in the right place at the right time throughout the entirety of this piece, I think he was onto something in the beginning, especially with gathering footage of the start of a revolutionary movement, but I can't say i agree with how he has exploited the scene and his connections to its roots, it seems the opposite of what street art is supposed to embody :/

I respect this documentary for being created. But I applaud Shepard Fairy and Banksy. Seriously if you have enough money to market something, you'll be a "hit". The reason Mr.Brainwash worked seemlessly was because he already had money from his clothing store and other businesses. His life didn't revolve around BEING AN ARTIST (like Shepard Fairy and Banksy) BUT LIVING AS AN ARTIST. in Wich I have no respect for MBW. His stunt in a way did work. And brainwashed everyone into buying into his art. Lesson learned kids. If you have something oroginal. Keep it to yourself. And invest in marketing and promoting.

The funny thing is that mr brainwash is a creation by banksy. Its staged. The Point is The Same though. What makes art art?

more like if you have something original put it out there because getting credit for something isnt everything. art is as meaningless as anything else in the end, so just do what you want

@Jaap Elbers: exactly that I ask myself every single day, I am artistic painter (acryl on canvas). But copied shit like Mr. Brainwash..this really cannto be it....that dude is not in a row, totally chaotic with camera, art or whatever he touches.........can u imagine how its a sting in my heart, when that Thierry Idiot sells that shit for ridiculous amounts. While he has not even done em himself, no his staff did it. Me It takes me hours and hours to finish my paintings (specialised on VIP Portraits like Jimmy Hendrix, Morrison, Stones etc on abstract background) and wont dare to ask more than 800 bucks for a 50x50....

The question is: "Are they jealous or telling the truth?" But it does loose the meaning for sure. But then again Banksy said that his art is just fo fun and people are crazy if they find it meaningful. `contradiction life

Brainwash getting alot of heat in the comments but I'd like to see you make something like that, to be so devoted to anything really. Banksy is a genius, Shepherd is a genius, and surely MBW is a genius, even if he is a copycat. A copycat genius if u will

@@nathen4twenty banksy did it on purpose. This whole documentary is an act, what dont u get? Thierry didn't even break his leg. That's fake, the documentary he supposedly made, with all flashy editing, that's fake. It's all created by banksy. Do u really think banksy would make this documentary when this was all true? That he would complain a whole feature length movie about a guy copying his style? No, it's all made up.

so everyone is clear: mr brainwash is not banksy. the point of the movie is show how artistry is not given value in pop culture, instead its notoriety. millionaire art buyers dont care about artistry or deep metaphorical meanings, only artist or some type of pop culture notoriety since that can be resold at higher prices down the line ala stock market shit.
so banksy having this guy play this "mr brainwash" character shows that some random dude who makes shitty art can have his stuff make bank just cus "OH HE WORKED WITH BANKSY AND OBEY GUY... HES A STAR FOR SURE"
and this trickles down to the "common folk" as when someone has a big name, their popularity is assumed to come from that they are "good" so then everyone collectively agrees that there must be something good going on and not question it. this in fact happens with banksy's stuff, so i assume he got pissed at his diminishing returns from his art so he did this to mess with people.
he in fact followed this same idea when he had a random street vendor sell his art for like $10 and no one bought it.
