  • In this CZcams video, we witness a failed test involving an approach to a zebra crossing. The footage highlights the importance of staying vigilant and being aware of your surroundings while driving. It emphasizes the significance of using the MSM routine - Mirror, Signal, Maneuver - to check for pedestrians, vehicles behind you, and potential hazards on the road. The video stresses the need to look beyond just the crossing itself and consider the broader traffic situation. It encourages viewers to think like a responsible driver, considering not only their own actions but also those of others on the road. Watch the video to learn valuable lessons about safe driving practices at zebra crossings.

I'm surprised it's a fail when one is only legally obliged to stop once a pedestrian enters the crossing.

Interesting that failing to yield on a zebra crossing to a non-pedestrian is considered an instant fail in the UK.
Across the channel in the Netherlands, pedestrians are only treated as such when they've fully dismounted from any vehicle. Maybe because there are so many cyclists here but if somebody is standing like that with a bicycle or electric scooter they are counted as such and get no right of way on zebra crossings. The only exception to that are mobility aids but in that case the pedestrian gets right of way anywhere, not just zebra crossings and failing to yield to a crossing mobility impaired pedestrian anywhere is an instant fail in our licence test.
Doesn't mean that you shouldn't slow down and approach these crossings with care though, especially in wet conditions where vision is limited by reflections, but it makes two road users to make a safe environment. Especially in this case when the other side of the crossing is obscured by the standing traffic and a pedestrian could pop out from between these cars at any moment.

Do you mean they are not considered pedestrians if they are on the bicycle? That’s so weird

@@Bella-wp7wz Cyclists and pedestrians are two different things in the Highway Code.

What the hell?! That should be a minor mistake!
