  • I had a small leak on my 2017 RAM Sport quad cab that was accumulating in the storage bin under the driver's side rear seat. I narrowed it down to a few possibilities and did some water tests and found the cab vent to be leaking on that side. Luckily it's not too bad to replace and I had the seats and everything removed and replaced and tested again with no leaks in about an hour, taking my time. Correct term and part number for this new updated part is Bodyside Aperture Exhauster - Mopar (68323649AB). I was able to find mine at the below link.
    www.moparfactoryparts.com/oem...
    These seem to fit a wide range of vehicles according to their site.

    Did mine last weekend, this video was super helpful. It was definitely leaking from these original vents....to my shock none of the "flappers" were actually present on either!

    I've been chasing where the leak was coming from in my truck for months. I would have never guessed it was something like these vents. Sure enough, one of them was the source of the leak. Thanks for the video and the part number. $35 later and she's all fixed up and leak free.

    • @golarrylevel
      @golarrylevel Před 22 dny +1

      @@matthayden8078 It was a snug fit between the cab and bed. But, I was able to just pop out the old ones and used a scrap of wood to push it out the bottom, where there's a gap that's plenty big enough to get it through. For installed the new one, I tied a string to it and lowered it down. I can't remember for sure, but I think on the passenger side I had to push it a bit with that same scrap of wood because it was a tighter fit on that side.

    • @RaymondLamb
      @RaymondLamb  Před 22 dny

      Same thing with mine. The driver's side was plenty large enough that it fell to the ground when popped out, and slid easily back into place. The passenger side was a lot tighter and had to pull on it to get it to go back, but thankfully it went. I can imagine some trucks might be even worse and it would be hard to get them to go back. I couldn't imagine having to remove the bed or loosen it just to get these in. Glad that wasn't my case. Good luck with it.

    I'm trying this tomorrow. I've been trying to figure out why I had moisture in my cam which was freezing up on the windshield. After replacing glass in front and back, then the 3rd tail light gasket, I found this video. Then I finally found how wet it got on the floorboard back seats. Pretty sure both vents need replacement.

    Man, I just replaced mine after watching this video. The wire trick was genius. Worked like a charm. Mine is a 2014 and I assume they were the original vents because there were no flappers left on either of them. And the rubber gaskets were dry rotted. I was able to rotate the old ones and pull them back into the cab, while the old gaskets crumbled. Thanks for posting this video.

    I'm about to tackle this tomorrow. Had a puddle of water on the passenger side after a week of rain. Pissed me off when I went to grab my tools under the seat and they were sitting in water. Thanks for the vid and tips. I put Laramie seats in my Harvent Edition, so I wasn't worried about that. I was worried about getting those vents in and out. Some people say the bed has to come off. lol

    Great vid. Just ordered these since troubleshooting points to these leaking. No water or dampness around brake light, i.e., surrounding headliner area. Noticed water in the storage compartments under the back seats after some pretty heavy rain (Florida). Also right under the vent (both sides). New vents around $9.00 plus shipping. Truck is a 2015 Ram 1500

    I inherited a truck from my brother. I took it to get tires yesterday and wanted them to save the best for my spare. The tool kit was under passengers side rear bench seat. Depression was filled with water! I also noticed the front seat rear mounting and bolts was rusted up. I guess my brother never noticed. There is no moldy odor but I think I need to check for mold under the carpet when I replace the vent too. Thank you for you vid.

    Started the process today. I got the old ones out - drivers side was missing 5 of the 9 flaps!
    Of course, one of the new vents has a broken tab - I get to wait for a replacement.
    I also found the passenger side a tight fit between cab and bed - took a bit of finagling to get old one out and new one in.

    • @RaymondLamb
      @RaymondLamb  Před 5 měsíci

      That was the same with mine, the passenger side was a lot tighter than the drivers, but there was enough room to make it work. Hope you get the replacement and all goes back together! Thanks for watching.

    I got the double whammy on my 2016. 3rd brake light and the cab vents. Unreal how poorly this was designed. And still even models as recent as 2021 and 2022 have the leaking issues.

    • @RaymondLamb
      @RaymondLamb  Před 2 měsíci

      I know it, crazy that the little rubber flap is all there is to it and they break off or disintegrate so easily. I haven't run into the brake light leak yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time! Thanks for watching.

  • @ScooterDano
    @ScooterDano Před 5 měsíci

    Damn, you're lucky. My 06 my bed and cab are too close to slide the newer thicker vent through via the outside. Ended up trimming the unnecessary posts on the outside and was able to get them through in the cab. If you look on the mopar site there's another "upgraded" part 68324094AB that also have a grill on the back like the older ones. I'm guessing that's for cab only trucks with no bed so it looks nice. The grill fits over the outside of these to keep debris out, but if it was installed then these would be way too big to remove/install with the bed in place. They could really design these better and easier to replace but keep sticking with these poor designs. We'll see how long these last. I have a feeling the flaps could fall off since there isn't much holding them in place.

    • @RaymondLamb
      @RaymondLamb  Před 5 měsíci

      Man, I hate to hear you had that much trouble out of them. Glad you got it worked out in the end. I'm not sure why they couldn't come up with something that just snapped in some way from the inside.

  • @mrharcore
    @mrharcore Před 5 měsíci

    Do you think it would be worth putting a bead of silicone around the edge of the vents before snapping them into place?

    • @RaymondLamb
      @RaymondLamb  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I thought about that myself but with the new design they have better clips that hold them tighter in place. I think the old style had thinner clips that wore out and caused it. Might cause an issue if you had to take them back out. Good luck with it!

    Just fixed this same exact issue with my ram.
    Its now down pouring rain and its all dry in the inside of the cab.
    I would highly suggest for the first timers fixing this issue is applying fluid film or grease to the big bolts on the back of the seat mount when putting the seat back in because those bolt are prone to the elements outside and can rust and make it very hard to remove the seat.
