      @@jasonkolody5429 I did the repair and it works no more water. You will need a 18mm socket. Make sure you have a strong socket wrench. I had to buy a new one because the bolts that hold down the seats were so hard to break loose. Also be careful when you remove the seats and reinstall, the back of the seats have a plastic piece on the metal hooks to keep the upper seat from falling forward. The plastic peice prevents rubbing metal on metal. The vents are a pain in the butt to get through the opening, I started out trying to carefully put them in but eventually I had to just jam in and it worked. I wish he showed how they get a little banged up. I can see why the dealer told some people the bed needs to be removed. But like I said it worked. Hope this helps.

      If you have water like you had the pad under the carpet acts like a wick and will pull water all the way under the front seats. Pull the carpet and dry it out. I had the exact same issue and it was wet all the way to the front.

    This was excellent! I had to pull the left rear seat to straighten a twisted seat belt. Your video prompted me to check the "Exhauster-Body Side Aperture". I have not experienced the water leakage but it was flopping around in the hole, so I got lucky there. On the other hand, I had not been able to figure out why it was always so dusty in the cab when driving on gravel. BINGO! All the rubber flaps were gone. These flappers are supposed to act like a check valve and only let air flow one way - out. Without them, the dusty air is allowed to come in. Now I also know how to replace them.
    The parts were in stock and only cost $10 each.

    Did mine last weekend, this video was super helpful. It was definitely leaking from these original vents....to my shock none of the "flappers" were actually present on either!

    I see people complaining about getting the vents out. You did it one handed while filming with the other hand! 😂😂😂
    Then people say you have to fish it up from below and have a person inside to grab it. Thank you for showing the the best and fastest way to do this!

    Nice video, I was cleaning my truck a week ago and had some reusable shopping bags under the rear seat and found a couple puddles of water on them but nothing else wet but have been noticing for some time a musty smell in the truck thought it may have been a dead mouse or rotted food under the seat where I can't see it I bet this is what it is

  • @jtdundee
    @jtdundee Před rokem +22

    Great job, thanks! I have another possible fix, because water is indeed devious. I have a 2016 2 door 1500 and the water pooling behind the seat was driving me crazy. I couldn't find the source, so I shimmed my OEM plastic vents right under the plastic finger supports with slim slivers of wood making the seal tighter... but that didn't do it. Ultimately, using my wife as the hose holder, we found that the cab design was bad. Right under the top mounted stop and cargo light (between the light and the top of the rear window) I found 2 small cutouts in the metal of the cab's window opening. Not real big, and not noticeable unless you were standing in the bed of the truck. THAT is where my water was getting in. I have no idea why those cutouts were there, the sliding glass window does not seem to need that. So I bought a 5 oz tube of DAP Ultra Clear sealant at Home Depot and filled the space between the rear window and the top mount light. It's been two years now and no more water.

    Just picked up a 2008 Ram and will watch for this. It's not just standing water but when you drive the vortex of water and air swirling in that open area between the box and cab could force water in there as well. Subbed already.

I've replaced the gasket and resealed the 3rd brake light, believing that was the issue, only to have water continue to collect. We just added a 2015 Ram 2500 to the fleet and after 2 3/4" inches of rain the other day, I found the floor under the rear seat was standing with water as well. Mystery solved! Thank you.

    Could not find the source
    Mine was behind the drivers seat
    I pulled the rear driver side seat out
    And saw the vent sitting at a weird angle
    But more importantly
    There were four of the rubber fins totally missing
    I made some fins and used
    Great stuff gasket maker to fix and used the gasket maker sealant to seal the vent back in place
    It is solid now
    BUT
    I'm going to replace it
    I'm ordering the vents show in this awesome video
    But I think I'm going to wait to see if it leaks again

    Thank you very much for the video. I have a 2021 Ram 1500 with less than 11,000 miles and has the water leak issue that people are complaining about. I took my truck to a Ram Dealership a couple months ago and the dealer I took it to replaced the center brake light assembly. But I guess they did not do any testing after the repair because I still have water leaking in the cab every time it rains. So I took it back to them and now they are claiming that the rear window frame is cracked and they have to replaced but it won't be under warranty. My truck is less than 3 years old and has less than 11,000 miles because I don't drive it very much.

    I had been having an issue with water coming in from the top . I had sealed the 3rd brake light previously and figured it couldn't be that . Took it to get the rear window replaced as the electric slider had stopped working . First thing the tech said was that it was probably the 3rd brake light and that replacing the window probably wouldn't stop the leak . But they found that the electronic connections for the window were corroded , probably from the water leak , so they went ahead and replaced . I have a gasket ordered , so hopefully that will take care of my water leak . But will keep an eye out for additional leaks from this area . .

    • @kanaletumlinson
      @kanaletumlinson Před 8 měsíci +1

      Replace the 3rd brake light all together it’ll have a brand new updated gasket, use some RTV on the gasket to help seal it, the screws alone don’t put enough pressure to keep it water tight.. I did this on mine never had any more leaks until these damn vents started failing

    Looks almost like a pool noodle stuck between the truck bed and the cab would help prevent water from falling down onto the vent .

    How difficult is it to remove the seats to access the area? I don't know if this is something I can do alone.

    I've had quite a few rams and they have all leaked. 3rd gen, 4th gen, 1500 and 2500, and now a 5th gen 2021 ram with a diesel that has been leaking front drivers side grab handle next to the steering wheel. Love my rams but these water issues are a real pain. The 3rd brake light is always the first place to start. Seal that one up the day you buy it because its only a matter of time before it leaks.

      We have a 3500 mega cab 2014 and a 2006 mega cab 1500 both with sunroof. They both leak from passenger side door handle we hang a bucket from there and can fill a 1 gallon bucket in a 1 inch rain truck is pointing slightly uphill in driveway, the water gets the headliner wet in the rear corner passenger side mainly but only on the 2014 ram. Just sealed up the third brake light and it still leaks so we keep a towel in the back corner and change that out constantly. Also, the floor next to the backseat at the door is a bit moist so we change a towel there constantly alsowe have checked sunroof drains in both trucks but still no change. We also have a 2006 3500 quad cab with no sunroof so far that truck does not appear to be leaking anywhere.

      Between the bed and the cab, there's vents down there. Sounds to me like that's your problem.

      Mr. amigo. That would explain our water down on the carpet next to the door, but we have wet headliner in the back corners, and I see water dripping from the top of the window frame. I actually posted a video of that on my channel one person, said there is a crack in the window frame, or a cut out in the body near the third brake light, I have sealed the third brake light with silicone so I am going to inspect again right around the frame. This is very frustrating but winter is almost over and I have now learned to open this truck up a couple of days after a rainstorm, and let it air out, we actually had mold growing on the leather quite a shame for a $60,000 Laramie

    Vinegar does not kill mildew and mould. Concrobium would of been a better option. Once dried then a antibacterial carpet clean would of finished it.

I work offshore and had my truck parked at the Dock for a month and came back and it had a musty smell almost like dog piss and it was driving me crazy because I’ve had the truck for 9 years and it’s still immaculately kept and clean. Came back to head home and my Harley hoodie behind the seat was soaked and I was lost as hell lol. New vents did the trick.
