The Helldivers 2 debacle has gone from bad to worse. The best-selling co-op shooter has been pulled from Steam's online marketplace in 177 territories in the wake of Sony's controversial new update requiring PC players to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account.
Earlier this week, publisher Sony announced that all Helldivers 2 PC players would need to link to an active PlayStation Network account or eventually lose access to the game. While it launched back in February with the PSN and Steam link requirement, this mandate was removed after Helldivers 2 blew up and servers collapsed. But starting May 6, new Helldivers 2 players on PC will once again be required to connect their Steam account to a PSN account. By June 4, everyone currently playing the game will need a linked PSN account.
The mandate has been met with widespread outcry and thousands of negative user reviews hitting the once widely popular shooter. One gaping problem is it's not possible to make a PSN account in some of the countries and regions where Helldivers 2 was being sold on Steam. Presumably to address this, Sony went on a delisting spree ahead of tomorrow's deadline where new players must link a PSN account. Now Helldivers 2 is no longer available to purchase on Steam in 177 regions around the world, according to listings from Steam Database. - Hry
Thanks for watching and LIKING the video!
bro, you forgot to hold up your ps5 controller!
This is weird.... I'm from Puerto Rico and I do have a PS5 with PSN... Is it a steam issue?
This is what happens when you’re a Sony pony
Your falling for false narrative dcg, this is all on steam, they sold it to unauthorized countries, that list is inaccurate, Japan has PSN and Puerto Rico is the USA and has PSN, of course steam is giving refunds they don't want a class action against them since they screwed up, it was on game page from start, quit drinking the Kool aid
@@Clifftowersthat list is inaccurate, also PR is part of USA, it's not it's own country, PC gamers are fake gamers
If buying isn’t ownership then piracy isn’t theft
Everything about Helldivers 2 was perfect and then Sony Ruined it.
This shouldn’t have happened in the first place
I can't believe people don't want a PSN account. Due to sonys incredible history of security
Welp here's my experience to answer why several people doesn't want this, way back around 2021 previously owned ps4 pro long story short my card has been hacked bought several unnecessary things such as supplements power sprayer etc from several countries such as croatia argentina and several others. and it costed me around 500$ for the things i didnt even know what they are for. I was forced to pay the debt and file for a dispute. The dispute took for over 6 months and they finally tracked that my account was compromised by linking it with sony. Eversince that incident I sold my ps4 pro built a pc and never looked back. Im from the Philippines btw in which I can't even play the game I bought anymore and its fkng atrocious. Well done sony, again. Im done with anything that has to do with sony. Startinf this day everything esp with single player games Im going to pirate.
Steams had breach’s too but you still use them. So has Microsoft but bet you using windows pc.
Just sign up with a new email and don’t put credit card info in.
Sony had one job. Just one job and they fucked it up. No game is safe these days. They want to pad those numbers before the next shareholders meeting. Corporate greed is killing gaming.
Corpos are so greedy. They can't help themselves from destroying the golden goose.
Sony 😢
Honestly it doesn't make sense they are going to lose out on potential sales/mxt's in the countries where psn isn't available.
So you people still think Xbox is dead?
Yes it's capitalism
Half of the people I play with on HD2 don't have a PlayStation and have stated they are not interested in creating an account. If half my friend group is gone, the other half will be far less incentivised to play. We all have back logs and real life obligations, it won't be hard to move on from this fuck up.
They will make an account because it doesn’t hurt them in anyway. It takes two minutes. Just like they made one for Ubisoft or blizzard, or for. Box if they have gamepass on pc. Complaining makes literally no sense.
@@lionzcrown1702it's the principle, dude. Some people do not wish to be forced to make an account under companies if they rarely play any of their other products.
Not to mention the little to no security Sony's network has cause of all the previous hacking that's happened throughout history.
It's an understandable move not to bow down to their greedy actions.
@@lionzcrown1702 I don't want to make an account with a company that has been hacked almost once a month with the frequency that it happens. I like companies that put more security in place than a Gameboy, and Sony doesn't qualify.
@@lionzcrown1702 Incorrect.
First - in about 130 countries people cannot make PSN accounts because PSN doesn't exist. No, using a VPN is not an option because using a VPN is a breach of the PSN ToS. This can and already has lead to permanent bans. And yes, the update is active in these countries which means that people no longer have access to the game they purchased.
Secondly - In about half of the 69 countries that do have access to PSN people still cannot make a PSN account because the account can only be created by using a Playstation. We're talking about PC gamers here - most of them don't have and don't want to have a PS.
Thirdly - Even if you're in a country that has access to PSN setting up the account might be a little more difficult than you think. In Ireland and the UK for example setting up a PSN account requires a government issued photo ID or a facial scan.
Fourth - Many people simply don't feel comfortable giving user information to a company like Sony that not only has a long history of data breaches and stolen user information but also literally forces you to agree to ToS that allow them to use your information in any way they want, including selling them (if you don't believe me just read section 6.1. in the PSN ToS).
Lastly - as soon as Sony gets hacked again this not only compromises the security of the PSN accounts but also the linked Steam Accounts as well.

You all can bash and hate on Sony all you want. 9 times out of ten, if there is a good ass game release, it makes it's way to Playstation. Everything is just so much more unified and simple on console.
Basically, you don't have to hate on Playstation fans. Hate on Sony upper management making these decisions.
I play on playstation but I have friends who play on pc and this is just stupid and annoying it doesn't even make any sense
Actually it's not why. They act that way cause they still make money lol. So they don't care what people think. Unless it impacts them majorly financially some companies just ignore feedback.

It requires a PSN account which is free. You don't need PS+ on PC if that's what you're trying to say.

The craziest thing is how in the dark ArrowHead seems to be…with the CEO responding to questions with “I don’t know”.
For Sony Arrowhead are likely really low on the totem pole but they CEO did admit they always knew this was required so it is also their fault
If it was OPTIONAL and possibly offer some incentives for linking your PSN account then I'm pretty sure NO ONE would object, but making it MANDITORY is what screwed the game big time.
Guess the problem here is Sony should have just delayed game until account system was ready rather then release it while trying to fix the system.

Typical SONY meeting
Developers: Sir, our game is doing really well, players seem to like it and we have made huge profits from it.
SONY: Nah, cant have that happen fam.
This shows how SONY is desperate for people to buy their consoles . You can literally create an account if you own any PS console in those countries where psn is not available .😅😅😅😅
Not really. 179 countries just can't make an account. Period.
Sony just defrauded 70% of the entire planet with this decision since they took their money and now have robbed them of the game they paid for.
HD2 did not sell 20 mill copies. HD2 was carried by the Steam players. Without Steam the game would have flopped. Sony wants the steam players to sign up for PSN accounts so when Sony releases the Paid DLC for Helldivers2, the players will download the DLC directly from Sony instead of Steam. Hence avoiding Steam's 30% charge.
Good thing Sony doesn't need Steam and Steam doesn't need Sony. So i think Sony should stop releasing games on PC if it's this hard. Also competition will be more fierce and that's good for consumers.
@lekalla You're ignoring the fact that if it wasn't for Steam sales, this game would've flopped big time. It was 7th in most sales history in North America for PS. Take out the PC sales and it doesn't even make it into the top 20.
Sony needs Steam more than they like to admit, especially when it comes to good press.

They just reversed their decision. Guess they needed a harsh reminder to use what little brain cells they had to think twice on this.
Serious question. Ghost of Tsushima, launches on steam in 10 days. May 16th.
What do you think will happen to sales, and will a psn account be required, thus 177 less countries sold in at last minute?

@@saralotti7174 Yeah hopefully they let you play the single player but who knows. Sad too. It was a great story but Sony has themselves to blame there.
To be fair, 90% of those 177 countries are better off to be forever removed from all games because they are a cesspool of hackers and cheaters. If FPS isp block most of those countries on PSN blacklist, the number of cheaters would drop drastically.
I think the only thing classical that will be talked about for years regarding Helldivers 2 is how badly it crashed and burned.
The link account is just a small part of the problem the big problem here is why is the game available on the country where they can't register a PSN account on day one... That just seem stupid to me.
"What, don't you guys have phones?"
Wow, that CEO is incredibly based.
The game is barely 3 months old 😂
I am an active HD2 player and cannot understand the amount of corporate idiocy in the part of Sony
They need to either
1. Leave the game alone as advertised
2. Offer incentives to add an additional psn account
I officially stopped playing this since I can't play with my cousin who lives in Vietnam and he also has friends from the Philippines who also plays this game. Both countries were affected by Sony's mandate.
WHAT THE FUCK IS SONY DOING?
Why is arrow head suddenly innocent? From the very start they said the psn account was mandatory but disabled because of server issues,
I believe it's because in the beginning the account linking was an optional thing, you weren't forced to sign into a sony account to play, you could skip it and have fun. Now sony is mandating we sign in, even though they published the game in countries that can't have a psn account.
To summarize:
I'd say it's alot better for players to go for the publisher that is the root of the problem, than blindly attacking the game developers that only made the game.
@@adriandoesstuffandthings ceo decided to disable it not sony mate, and they(ahson) are saying now the account linking is mandatory from the start. ceo started all this, he should NOT have decided to make a decision regarding publisher roles, he started a bait and switch scam by disabling psn acc requirement at the beginning ! psn account requirement should have been there from the start so pc gamers are aware of what they are getting into!.
he did that likely to collect all possible purchase they could get and called it "system issue" (psn account linking/login causing server load issues doensnt make sense).
@@doejan8549 I'll admit with it coming out that the ceo did take down the requirement. We can't start taking away the blame from sony for still pulling some sketchy stuff. They initially had it on their faq that "Signing into sony titles on pc was optional" but changed it in light of this debacle to "some being mandatory". As well as selling the game in regions that physically cannot make a psn account, or are required to buy a ps5 to make an account to play the pc game.
Yes the communication wasn't the best over the psn requirement. But we shouldn't be going after the company that stuck with a horrible situation, and instead go for the company that put them there.
gran turismo 7 : playstation plus not required
It really isn’t a big deal to sign into a PS account, BUT this was a horrible move on Sony’s part! What are they thinking?!?!
Make it optional and provide bonus perks for logging in?
Talk about a backhanded slap to the face of your player base.
This is reminiscent of MS making everyone sign in for their ips. And we’ve all seen where that led them!
They always said it was coming. It was supposed to be there at launch but system didn’t work so they postponed its implementation
This is just unbelievable. Whoever decided this at Playstation HQ deserves to be fired from the company. The arrogance of delisting a game from the PC platform of choice that made them a sh!t ton of money is astounding. All this while putting almost every new PS exclusive also on the PC platform (even though delayed) to make more money. I do have to wonder if the lesson Sony has now learned is the wrong one in that they might decide to NOT release any future games on the PC platform because: PC gamers "toxic". Just WOW! Sony deserves the Bud Light treatment at this point. Cancel your PS+ subscription and make them feel it where it hurts: in their pocket.

Now 17 years later, helldivers 2 dropped and i was really interested in this multiplayer title. Everything seemed to good to be true. I said to my wife that this game had me. But I was hesitant, because history tells me that this was to fragile and something was bound to happen to this great game. So i waited a few weeks. Everything seemed to be going strong and i told my wife i am going to give it a shot. I must play this. So a week ago she gave it for my birthday. Now this happened and i am so disappointed. I knew it, and I just feel like not playing anymore. Really disappointed in sony.
Damn you!
Literally every live service game out there asks you to create some type of account. That's.. not great but it is what it is. But asking people from countries to create an account that they simply can't create is mad.
Steam must be pissed. That's a lot of revenue they just lost.
Simple.. Sony's attempt to pad their account numbers to effectively lie to their own investors while simultaneously letting half the world know they don't actually own their copy of the game. Brilliant Sony, Brilliant. Perfect example of corporate greed at its finest.
So arrowhead has known about this six months prior to its release and did not say anything about this because they said that they were worried about its impact because the game blew up so big and quick
I refunded the game and I won't re-purchase it until the PSN account requirement is removed.
I simply don't want to give my personal info to Sony who has big data breaches on yearly basis.
Giving Sony fake info isn't an option either, because it goes against Sony's user agreement and if Sony finds out they'll ban your account and you lose access to all your games that you might have on that account.

They won't backtrack now that refunds are being issued. They pretty much kill the game.
I was willing to buy Helldivers 2 but I got slapped in the face when I found out that it is no longer available in my region
I would say you dodged the bullet in this case. Imagine if you had purchased the game and all the sudden you can't play anymore because there is no PSN in your country, unless if you already have a PS4 or PS5.
Imagine eating up potentially thousands or millions of dollars of losses from refunds and outright killing your golden goose just because you wanted to artificially statpad PSN numbers to investors in a single slide in Microsoft Powerpoint.
Truly a Sony Moment.
They won’t lose anything lol and it isn’t artificially inflated numbers, this is a PlayStation game, in the PlayStation umbrella, and not being counted with the rest of the umbrella yet. People actually complained that cross progression wasn’t a thing and Sony needs to ADD account linking. Now they are mad for what? Absolutely nothing lol I love to stand against bs practices but this one is…normal and not offensive? Just like I have game pass on pc by linking an Xbox account so that Microsoft can track Xbox numbers…why the hell would I get mad at Sony doing the same?
@@lionzcrown1702 Because Microsoft explicitly requires an Xbox account on day 1 to use their services and not 3 months later after they sold you the game. Microsoft/Xbox/Ubisoft/EA/Activision/Rockstar allows account creation in more regions/countries than Sony does with PSN. Sony explicitly sold the game on Regions/Countries that are not covered by PSN at all. The devs also knew this 6 months in advance yet still pushed through with the sale of the game in those same regions/countries anyway. Now those customers are stuck because they already bought the game but are unable to continue playing it because they are forced to create a PSN account yet they cannot because PSN doesn’t support their region. They can choose to fake it and create a PSN account under a different region/country that is supported but that is grounds for a ban under Sony’s own ToS. These people are effectively stuck between a rock and a hard place with no way out due to Sony’s own fault and backwards ass logic. Sony effectively rug pulled all of them and stole their money. If that sounds “normal and non-offensive” to you then I’m not sure what moral compass you live your life on.

How do they have access to the internet but no access to PSN?

That’s not going to stop cheating, pirating or griefing because just skip the rewards and stay rogue and continue the bad activity. Sony has to protect its gamers from that
@@SKOTxFREE i've been gaming for 40 years and cheating has never been common enough to notice. Perhaps e-sports games it is but everywhere else its rare and more ironic i only ever had problems with PlayStation cheaters using save wizard then anyone on steam/epic by a large margin.
@@SKOTxFREE Well, Sony is definitely not doing a good job protecting their users from PSN hacking. And after what happened this past September on 2023… yeah, their lies aren’t gonna work.
@@SKOTxFREEhow can it claim it protects gamers when they can’t even stop their hackers?😂🤣
@@SKOTxFREE they can barely protect their gamers data from the monthly data breaches.
They can tell their higher ups that they increased a quarterly at cost of the GAME
This is on the developers. Sony said ahead of time there would be a PSN account requirement, but the game director disabled that requirement for the first 6 months of launch, and choose to release the game in countries that wouldn't be able to meet the contractual obligations to playstation. The only legal recourse now is for AH to refund all the people who would never have been able to meet the PSN requirement. Sony isn't obligated to go back on a requirement which arrowhead/helldivers agreed to during the publishing process. (It's very sad though and the requirement is stupid, but Sony has the power to do whatever they want if you agree to the EULA)
I don't play games on PC, so this news is irrelevant to me. Seems PS trying to reach out to PC gamers isn't going so smoothly. Do PC players need a PS account to play the other Sony first party games like God of War or Days Gone? If they do, what's the issue here? If they don't, then it might just be for specific games. This was the first game to be released day one on PC and PS.
Honestly, if gamers are up in arms with linking their account, dropping negative reviews, and requesting refunds, might as well just take the game offline temporarily to assess the situation.
who decide if its a W or L? confusing
Wow, Sony sucks as a company but I didn't expect them to shit the bed this hard! Lol
This is why I don't believe it when people try to tell me Sony is the only company that prioritizes players over profits.
two words: share holders and money.
that's four words.
Anti Consumer and Anti Developer.
Buddy of mine who studies game development says Sony did this so they could count steam sales as PSN sales, not for extra sales money but so they have better sales stats for investors, I dunno what Sony is thinking but this is definitely financially motivated somehow
I can't even get INTO the game now. I am from one of the countries without access to a Playstation Account. There are some way around it, on Console, but that's out of the question on Steam, as the game is no longer available. Right now I am just merely frustrated, but I was really close to buy it a few months back (a friend even offered to gift it to me), I just pass for lacking time for a multiplayer game. IF I had actually went through with that purchase just to find out I was going to loss access to the game now, I would be fuming. Hell, If I would had taken my friend's offer, I would need to get a refund FOR HIM. This flat out makes me loss confidence on future Playstation releases for PC now, hell, it gets me nervous in regards the Playstation games I already own on PC. They may be Single Player, but I can't be sure Sony won't try to pull something like this, retro actively on them. Sukerpunch seemingly confirmed the PSN Account won't be required for the single player in Ghost of Tsushima, but should I be worried of the game in general not being available for purchase here, because the multiplayer does?! This sucks.
What a stupid decision. I wonder what's going on with executives in big companies, looks they're always taking bad decisions and never get fired. The workers and consumers are the ones who pay.
Sony was actually trying shut the game down before release which is why it went to PC day and date as on PS5. Because of the development time it wasn't.
Next major order: Eliminate the Automatons in Sonylandia. For Super Earth!
Stupidity is infecting all companies now.
