  • The new 29mm Texas Power Bar is Punching above it's weight in many ways. This power bar has a lot to offer at a fantastic price point. Texas Power Bars has finally released a Power Bar in the 29MM diameter, satisfying demand from many power lifters. In this review I explore the main features and my thoughts about this new power bar, as well as discuss my reason for purchasing one and my thoughts after almost a month of use.

    Well done review, Marcus! I too love bare steel, grippy knurling. When I bought the ModBar from Bare Steel Equipment, I immediately fell in love with the knurling-- so much, that I bought the handles for my PowerBlocks also. This bar is going on my "list". I've wanted a TPB for some time. Now I know which one to get. Thanks!

    This bar is my new favorite. I find the OPB knurling too passive and this one is what I would call aggressive. The sleeves on the TPB are held in place with roll pins, not Allen screws. It makes taking the sleeves off very easy verses struggling with a snap ring.

    Hi twisted barbell. Been a subscriber to your channel and I remember your kabuki review.
    I’ve always wanted to know how the kabuki knurling felt but glad to hear you prefer the Texas knurling. I nabbed myself a TPB as well but I got the black zinc version.
    All my other barbells are stainless. But yea I love the Texas bar as well!
    But you make me think maybe I should have gotten the bare steel but I don’t want to deal with rust.
    Thanks for the review always enjoy your videos!

      Thanks for the continued support Jason! I’ve heard from others with coated versions who love the knurling despite the coating, so have no regrets. Rust can be a real problem if you’re not on top of it and a garage setting could require a lot of attention, depending on location.

    Got the TPB 29mm a few weeks ago. It's my first aggressively knurled bar and it now makes my Ohio Bar, curl bar and the hand grips on my Eleiko trap bar feel far too passive. This bar (zinc coating) has become my primary.

    Marcus this bar is even more affordable at $255 (currently $40 off for bare/chrome sleeve). I am not ready for a new barbell yet but hoping for some good deals come November and improvements in my deadlift progress to justify a Texas power deadlift bar. I would be all over that bar if I didn't already have a stainless Rogue Power Bar. I am planning on a Texas Deadlift Bar as that is my next purchase. Rep Fitness and Rogue have both gone to non chrome sleeves and that is a peeve of mine.

    • @twistedbarbell3950
      @twistedbarbell3950  Před rokem +1

      I hear ya Mark. Others who have both this bar and the Texas deadlift bar say the knurling is of the same quality, as is the bar itself, so you can’t go wrong with it. I almost went with the bare steel sleeves, but Brandon recommended the added protection of the chrome and I can’t argue that logic, especially considering the lack of additional cost for the chrome.

    • @twistedbarbell3950
      @twistedbarbell3950  Před 6 měsíci

    Nice review. Would be great if someone could lend you a Rogue OPB bare steel (290 + tax etc.) to get your honest opinion on how they compare. I'm sure both are great and can't go wrong either way.

      @twistedbarbell3950  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Gavin, that would be cool. I wanted to put it up on screen but the I couldn’t find the bare steel version when editing. That being said though, I would venture to say the TPB still has the better knurling, based on my Rogue Ohio deadlift bar. Rogue’s site states the deadlift bar has more aggressive knurling than their power bar, and this TPB just blows my Rogue ODL bar out of the water in terms of knurling and grip.

    Hey Marcus. Fantastic review and really glad you love the bar. I don’t recall from your Kabuki video but was there a reason why you didn’t go with a Rogue Ohio Power Bar then? The bare steel goes for $290 which is pretty compelling and will be a coin flip for a lot of people deciding between that and Texas 29mm.

    • @twistedbarbell3950
      @twistedbarbell3950  Před rokem +1

      Hey James, thanks. At the time, I was a little skeptical of the knurling on the Rogue bar, as I have their deadlift bar which has more aggressive knurling than their power bar and it didn’t really impress me. Their price is definitely in a fantastic range at 290/295. Ironically, Texas Power bars announced a 4th of July sale, today, for $35 off their bars! That brings this new 29mm bar to $280 for a short period!

  • @GarageGymLifeMedia
    @GarageGymLifeMedia Před rokem

    Edits are top notch as usual Marcus, and I love how you compared it with the Kabuki Power. I think it’s also great that you highlighted that the knurling and the marks are the same on both bars because it’s always a little irritating when I get a new barbell and I have to find my hand spacing for different exercises if the reference points are different. Good point also about the hardness and tensile strength, not being as big a deal for the average lifter. I grant you I am a big believer in having a lot more tensile strength that you need because nobody wants to find out at the wrong time that their barbell can’t handle the tolerances of whatever it is they’re doing.
    My only question is if you had to get rid of all of your bars and go with just one would this one be the winner?

    • @twistedbarbell3950
      @twistedbarbell3950  Před rokem +1

      Thanks John, appreciate your support as always! I too hate knurling rings at different locations and this is a problem at commercial gyms - none of them line up with any of my bars. I agree on tensile strength, but when it comes to well known bar manufacturers like TPB, Rogue, etc., you know it will likely never be an issue. As for your question, yes, if I had to settle for one of my bars only, it would be this one (29MM TPB) because I feel it does everything my Kabuki bar does, at half the cost. Also, I love the clean, sharp & grippy knurling and feel of the bare steel.
