@@CorkScrewDoodAs much as I love SCARs... I have to agree with his sarcasm. This is a poor(or extremely rich??) way to make a BR, and it is too heavy for a BR.
SCAR20 IMHO is the best SCAR out of the box, at least as far as parts goes. I find nothing to replace on it, unlike the 17 where I felt the need to upgrade the rail, grip and trigger.
I would have absolutely no problem if someone chopped a 308 SCAR 20 barrel to 16'' or 14.5'', running suppressed, and calls it SPR. Or at least start with a SCAR 17 if the end goal is a BR, to keep the weight more reasonable.

Interesting to see all the new aftermarket support. When I got my 17 the Geissele was new and there were only 2 insanely expensive lowers that converted to the SR 25 pattern. I ended up finding a couple dozen original Belgian mags for like $22 each so the conversion didn’t make sense anymore.

I think that's too much modifications. At this point you more or less have a FrankenSCAR. But hey, keep rocking if you love it.😂
But I still have to say:
Too much receiver and barrel for a BR, especially a 16'' 6.5CM doesn't make much sense over 308.
I would just start with a SCAR 17 and make it 14.5'' or 13'', change it to MREX Mk2 rail. So it still will be ~8lb.
As far as controls I would just do BCM KAG, PMM bad lever, grip, and sling points while I'm at it. (maybe G trigger)
I don't know if I was just lucky, but both NRCH 17 and 20 I've used ejects 3-4oclock out the box with M80. Even suppressed on 2nd gas position.
The stock on them are also pretty good I have no reason to pay that much to change them. Especially considering you have to reinforce the rear screw holes if you change to other stocks and/or have it overgassed.
FN designed the 17 to be as light, accurate and reliable as possible. Therefore it's pretty normal to encounter more issues when you mess with it. SCAR 20 is just a DMR version of it, while it delivers more accuracy for faster and more shots... It's not any more resilient to tinkering over the 17.

  • @glasscannon1815
    @glasscannon1815 Před 5 měsíci +1

Lots of upgrades i really check out. The adjustable gas is really whats going to save your gun from killing itself. SCAR is only known to beat itself to death due to suppressing and FNS abysmal "adjustable" gas port. That one for the rear stock also seems like a must if you are changing the rear stock.

SCAR17S DMR will save the trouble and little lighter in overall weight. I agree on short barrel 6.5CM. I’m surprise to see that light weight cut BCG, I was think about that too. I switch between the UGG and SSR if overall weight is a concern. The wobble on the SSR stock can be easy fix by filling the gap with electric tape. The jet screw is loose fit from factory easy unscrew, a smaller jet screw correct the issue if not suppress. Perhaps put on a scope take her all the way to 1000 yards. Great video

Can easily spend $5000 to try to build a scar 17 from the ground up using imperial arms receiver and mostly fn oem parts, an aftermarket trigger module with geissele trigger the rest oem. Pretty crazy you may as well buy a brand new Scar the buy a after market lower, Geissele trigger and might still have some money left if 5k was your budget to build one. Just take your factory scar apart and build it again, haha.

Bravo-Zulu, on the Outstanding Presentation of your Very Cool Setup! How long has it taken you to get your SCAR 17 to this point where it is a more Shooter friendly weapon that does not want to kill the user? I am glad that the aftermarket finally started to give the SCAR 17 the support that it had DESPERATLY NEEDED! I have seen two SCAR 17 bolts BLOW OUT the Rear of the Upper Receiver. I always thought that a weapon like the SCAR should have Tighter End Plate and that has been one of the many things that has kept me from seriously looking at buying one because I like to shoot my firearms but NOT DESTROY them in the Process of a range session but it looks like you have found the magic mixture of elements to create a solid SCAR 17 that is not going to Blow it self up after 3k rounds thru it. It is funny how many of the companies that you mention have also released Upgraded Parts for other Problematic Weapon like the CZ Bren 2ms to make them more reliable and user friendly when it comes to magazines and trigger packs.

That's a $4500 gun. And to answer your question, FN has an excellent warranty and probably makes the best lineup of guns from any company. You can literally pick any gun they make and use it hard and they last forever. They just don't warranty shooting suppressed on SCARs. Also, no one makes a 6.5CM with all those features, so if you want them, you have to build it.

You literally just watched a video where a trusted gun reviewer and combat/PMC vet echoed a known concern about the gun beating itself to death.

He has SCARs on his range with over 200k rounds still going strong, and claims it is one of the most reliable weapons he has on his range. They fire a couple MILLION rounds every month there, so I think he knows what he's talking about.

Scar16 is my favorite scar. I have a lot of rounds in my scar16. 16s dont kill themselves with use. It takes regular m4 mags. However my scar20 and 17 are also fine without all the upgrades. Scar17 is a dmr and 20 is a csass style gun. If you use them like that instead of battle rifle, they will be fine. That buffer pad is mainly for not killing optics. I also dont see why sr25 mags are desirable in a scar. Scar mags are not expensive and they are reliable. Sr25 kac metal mags are expensive. Sure you can get pmags but they are not metal

the scar makes so little sense to me. I mean its cool AF, but on the engineering/fabrication side.
Its a middle grade extruded aluminum upper and won't compare favorably in durability tests to 7076T6 MARS-H uppers for similar price point.
Its not fully ambi, and maybe I'm autistic but for prone shooting its a huge quality of life improvement.
Sick barrel, I guess that is one of the reasons to go this way, FN is a top tier barrel maker.
The weight of the gun is also very good. But the warranty is trash.
I appreciate this video, cause I think these are interesting guns. But I've often been confused how they have perpetuated themselves in the way that they have relative to other stuff out there.

Absolutely sweet! I could never buy a SCAR because of all its shortcomings. The stock trigger alone was enough to turn me off for the asking price. Would you have a do you know how $$$ much you have in the gun, gun included w/o optic? Also do you know of an aftermarket company, perhaps one that is listed that sells some of the parts to make an easier turnkey gun? I have spent thousands making guns into the way I want them and for once, it would be so cool to find one, specifically in .308 or 6.5 that hit the mark out of the box. As an example, I invested quite a bit in my Bren 2 to make the way I wanted and it's awesome, but when I look back at how much I spent, ouch! I live in Meridian if you are ever down here and want to shoot it. Take care, Godspeed brother!

He built it the way he liked it, not to get it to "work right"
    There's a difference

I love the scar, to be clear. However, the fact that I would as well have to change out the same amount of stuff to get it to be the rifle I want, really tells me that FN does not care about making a good rifle and just want profits. They had 20 years to take hints from the aftermarket and all they did was make a reciprocating charging handle and a longer barrel👎👎👎👎👎 (remind anyone of HK, no??? Thats because you suck, and they hate you) it pisses me off. Thats why I just got the Sig Spear Lt. I did a pro and con sheet and it was a simple decision. I might change the butt stock but thats it. And I hate it because I’m still probably going to get the scar😂

bro, this is a $8000 rifle with all those mods. Good for you putting all the effort into modding it, but holy shit, is the platform really worth it at that point?

It’s your money and rifle, do whatever you want. But damn…with all that after market, it’s like you turned a scar into a scar clone

The fact that you use a $200 optic on $6k+ worth of gun says a lot about Primary arms. I'm a big fan of their prism optics.

That's a really cool build, but it appears as if you have almost completely rebuilt the rifle. A $4,200.00 rifle that needs an estimated $2,000.00 upgrades to be configured to the users end needs, I question, what does the the original investment get you or lack there of that you need to completely rebuild it.

That would be the Elon Musk edition. But they'd have to add an X, so SCAR 420X or X420.

The SCAR-17/20 is such a bad gun, that you basically have to replace the entire thing with after market parts to keep it from beating itself to death. The only reason people still buy them, is because of Call of Duty (I want a SCAR-17 so bad).

Only if you run it suppressed and if that's the case the only thing you need is a kns discarder

I used a MK17 Mod 0(Scar-H with a shorter barrel) in Afghanistan, and it worked fine. There are some issues that FN should have fixed though. A longer rail. I never was bothered by the reciprocating charging handle, but they probably should have changed that too. The new MK2 Scars don’t have the reciprocating handle. The Scar has it’s place. It’s a great gun. But it’s niche. Which is why I swapped it out for something else fairly quickly.
