    This goes to show how much the Flux event effected 13, she just tried to find a way to keep it in, just as 14 is trying to be head stuck in the sand about it, till it finally comes out. It's just so sad that it wasn't his Donna he was sharing that moment with. It was a moment the both of them truly needed.

    • @debrahanes4439
      @debrahanes4439 Před 6 měsíci +1

      But if you think about it, without original thoughts it's almost as if he did because she was probably thinking that. Kind of how like prisoner zero needs someone around to copy

    • @Odrikah
      @Odrikah Před 6 měsíci +2

      It does make sense. It's a lot of complicated emotions, going through so much trouble to save and rediscover your home world, only for them to betray you again almost immediately and then you find out that you were basically their hostage the whole time and they were using you as a battery, only letting you go off and do whatever when you became too much trouble so they kept you on a long leash. But then you can't even confront them about it because your psycho ex-friend takes vengeance on them for you without consulting you, and tells you a version of events you can't even be sure is 100% accurate. After so many years of guilt thinking you killed them, and the excitement of saving them, just ending in that little pitter-patter and not even getting the satisfaction. The Doctor probably feels like how someone might feel when an abusive parent has died. Just a horrible mix of regret and disgust. If RTD leans into that angle more? Shows how it actually affects the Doctor instead of just moving along at breakneck speed like Chibnall did? It could be some seriously great stuff.

      @@Odrikah We see 14 after that scene pretty much breaking down in rage afterwards. That the moment he would have been that vulnerable to someone like Donna who means so much to him that it WASN'T her that he'd revealed all that too. At first her was very angry and enraged, both by the remembering of the Flux and not knowing where he really comes from AND the fact that when he finally opened up to "Donna" it wasn't really her. He then stills himself and goes "Good." coldly after, as if trying to justify in his mind that it was a good thing he didn't open up to the real her, because he isn't "supposed" to do that. It has several great layers.

    • @Logicalleaping
      @Logicalleaping Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@carrastealthDon't think that's why he said "good". Pretty sure that was just him centering himself to get back into action the;
      "you good?"
      "yeah I'm good"
      just condensed into "good" as he's just talking to himself.

    So we're two episodes of two with RTD cementing how much of an impact 13 has had/will have had on The Doctor moving forward. The lovey dovey peace and rainbows aspect of her personality from last episode, and now Flux having LASTING impact on the Whoniverse as that's the kind of pretense for the villains this episode...I'm here for it.

      I cheered, I just really hope that wasn't the last we see of him. Like it could easily be just that one cameo, and then the next episode he's hiding somewhere or off-camera, or we might get a full episode. All depends on if the actor passed away before or after they finished working on this episode.

    I was SO happy that they mentioned the Flux and referred to the Timeless Child. Last week, there were some annoying Jodie-hating bros who thought Russell was going to be their “hero” and just erase the whole of 13’s era. And NO! Russell made it clear that he will not play those misogynist games.

      @chadstchad Although it's completely justified to dislike the era based on Chibnals' poor writing (I also feel this way about the past few seasons), there are unfortunately individuals who use that as an excuse to further spew racist, sexist, and other horrible views towards the actors, crew, and general fans of the show. There are people, stupid as it may seem, who unfortunately despise Jodie just because she played the Doctor during the revivals weakest point.

      I think RTD saw what happened with the new Star Wars trilogy and realised retconning something so fast not only ruins the brand, but fractures an audience. Just push through and keep working with it!

    • @TimeLady128
      @TimeLady128 Před 6 měsíci +1

      There is a lot of work to be done to make all that acceptable. There is such a huge camp of fans that refuse to acknowledge Timeless Child and Flux and what not as canon the way it is now. Maybe RTD can work on that and somehow integrate the bad lore into the universe in a way that will make the camp accept it as well. Also, maybe he can make companions three-dimensional again. We know and love 10/14 and we know and love Donna, but the new Doctor and companion in seasons to come deserve a better treatment than the last ones.

    Question here....All over the universe, the Tardis brought the Doctor to the place and time where he needed to go, right? What would have happened here, though, if the Doctor was not there? These No-Things would never have picked up on the countdown and the purpose of the robot. The Doctor was not strictly needed here and he did not want to go there specifically. Am I missing something?

    This was, hands down, the absolute BEST episode of Docter Who I've seen since.... Well, last week. 😂
    I'm so happy to see, how the great storytelling is BACK in Doctor Who (something I personally felt was lacking during the Moffat / Chipnall eras).
    Actually, to me, the beginning of this episode, was pretty anxiety / paranoia inducing because of the "silence", and not having a single clue to what is going on.
    And WHEN we found out about the "No-things", it suddenly went full on psychological HORROR (to me, at least)!!! If it hadn't been Doctor Who, I would have turned it off immediately!! 😳
    And then, of course........ Yup. I cried too!!! Both during the "Oh no....... We're not going to lose Donna now, are we?? 😢 " and upon seeing Wilfred again. 😭
    See, THAT'S what great storytelling is : Emotional rollercoasters!! 🥰🥰🥰
    See you again at the next special. 😉

    I'm so glad RTD is yes-and-ing instead of backpedaling. We've seen from Star Wars how trying to retcon too much too quickly after backlash can just mess everything up even more, and I'm glad he didn't waste the precious time we get with Tennant to immediately undo the previous doctor's run. Taking what's eatablished and making it work is what Doctor Who has been doing for years and it would have felt disingenuous to me to do anything else.

      Which he/she kinda isn't. Other than Captain Jack he hasn't had any other male they've flirted with and that was more on Captain Jack. Even as a female they like other females as shown with Yaz.
      The doctor has a clear preference to human females not sure what that would be labelled as though seeing as its straight as a male but lesbian as a female doctor, I'm sure it has a name but whatever.
      Also since when is calling a guy hot indicate you're gay? I'm straight and can objectively say if someone is hot and not be attracted to them.
      List of Characters the doctor has had some romantic tension with;
      Probably a wife seeing as he has a granddaughter, Sarah Jane Smith, Romana (ish), Perry (I think), Grace, Rose, Captain Jack, Lynda, Madame de Pompadour, Martha (sorta), Joan, The Master, River Song, Queen Elizabeth, Amy (weirdly), Cleopatra (apparently), Clara, Yaz.
      That's 2 guys (sometimes) and mostly girls, the doctor clearly prefers females.

    I loved this but Wilf stole 100% of my attention at the end too.
    Some criticisms though.
    I do wonder why they made that huge corridor CG if they couldn't do it well. The ONLY reason for the corridor to be so big was for the one scene where the big doctor and donna got stuck in it, but it would have worked perfectly with a smaller-but-still-big practical one too. I think them not using the alternative almost takes away from the episode since the rest of the sets are so good and it stands out so much. Could have made a corridor segment fully practical like they normally do then extended it digitally. Few planks of painted plywood can't cost more money than 35 minutes straight of CG. Especially when the parts they interact with, the floor, the car, the climbing-wall-hexagons are all clearly physically there anyway.
    Also why would the Doctor assume the aliens all use base 10? That's something not even every human culture on earth has agreed on. Some humans have used base 12, some base 60, I'm sure there are even more too.

      @@obiwankenobi687i do get u but i think this is a great celebration of doctor who. i don’t think it needs easter eggs and cameos to be a celebration of what makes the show great. the 50th had all of that fun stuff, i think it’s cool to take the 60th in a different direction. easier said than done but try letting go of expectations and just having fun with it

      @@obiwankenobi687I sort of feel the same way, but with the villain next week I think the last special is going to be more of that again (I mean, The Star Beast WAS a celebration of past DW media!). Imo this was a great advertisement/look ahead into the kind of storytelling we can expect from RTD2.

      This dude is really trying to shame people while walking around the internet with a name that sounds like a hobbit. Go back to the Shire, Mr. Biggins. You can get away from all the wokeness by just going back to bed.

    why cast newton black, imagine the backlash if martin king or rosa park cast as white, dona looked like she didnt want to be there half the time theta sigma looked all spaced out like he was on something and was there a lack of funding or did they just not care with the poor cgi best thing about this was seeing wilf again

      Weird comparison, Newtons Colour of skin had no impact on what he was about. Conceptualizing gravity and understanding the physics of the world doesn't require a white skinned person, sure its a weird thing to do but its fine. Anyone that knows about Newton knows the apple story isn't true anyway so its already a made up story. Remember that this was filmed during the end of peak covid so RTD just used an actor he was familiar with.
      Also it was played for a gag (or maybe some classic RTD foreshadowing with rewriting time) so 2 minutes of an actor hardly seems worth the fuss. ALSO let it be stated that it might not of been Isaac Newton as the only person that assumed it was him was the doctor based on really bad evidence of a man under an apple tree in 1666.

      Well, one... he's not black. Nathaniel Curtis, who appeared as Newton, was born to a white English mother and Indian father. And two... who cares. It's a quick bit in a campy sci-fi show having fun... not a docu-drama.
      Also... most folks have zero problem with the reversals in the Hamilton musical. And then there's Jesus... who's been portrayed as white European for centuries, when he wasn't. But, sure, this 90 second bit in DW is worth whining about.
