I’m so happy you picked up on how CAMP this film is underneath its classy-looking surface. The villain is so cracked, bitchy, and petty - it’s somehow twisted and hilarious.

Oh, I can spot something camp from a mile off! Even though the film stressed me out, I absolutely adored the pettiness and bitchiness of it all. Down with the rich, but also, watching rich people squabble still somehow makes me giggle 😂 thanks for watching! ❤️

So in the script, it just called for Margot to sit there and cry upon finding out Tyler brought her there knowing she was going to die. Anya herself said no, and that's how we got her just straight up losing her shit on him.
    Here's the full quote:
"I have a thing about feminine rage. Which people think for some reason and this is no disrespect to any writer - I get a lot of, like, 'men doing really terrible things' and women sitting silently while one tear slowly falls. And I'm like, "Oh no no no no no. We get mad, and angry."

I watched a reaction from a girl who used to be a chef and it made me see this film in an entirely different way. She gave so much insight. For instance, the meal in The Mess was composed of blood, sweat, and tears. The representations of them. Jeremy put his blood, sweat, and tears into the career and still wasn’t good enough.
Every dish actually has representation in the film and it’s more brilliant than I could’ve known. Even dude being found in the chicken coupe - because he ran and hid. Like a chicken.

14:40 no, he didn’t kill him for the bad performance. He killed him for being just like himself. No longer doing the thing he loves because it makes him happy - but for a paycheck and to please people who don’t care about him or his well being.

Cute little behind the scenes detail:
Typically in movies when you see them eating, they either take small bites to avoid filling up or spit it out once the cameras stop rolling.
Nathan Foad actually IS eating everything, to keep in character!

Also the broken emulsion gag was supposed to escalate to where they waterboarded her with it. Thats why it was getting bigger.

Prepare for the infrequency though lol. Don’t get your hopes up watching a series if he hasn’t finished it yet because it will take years. But while you wait, you’d love Zzzavid and NickSaysBoo if you love Niall’s editing! They’re all very similar, all so funny and fun

In another part of the original script, it mentions
    a) Chef was found running a taco truck outside a Food Expo, and it was "the happiest he'd ever been", and Lillian ruined that with the interview that made Hawthorne into a reality.
    b) Margot calling him out on the fact that he parked his taco truck outside the Food Expo KNOWING Food critics were going to be there.

    Dish analysis from another video:
Oysters and lemon mignonette - Common flavors put together that have to be broken down and deconstructed, foreshadowing what happens to the guests. This is meant to be taken as Chef throwing down the gauntlet.
Amuse Bouche - More foreshadowing. Charred lace - crater. Milk snow - ash from the fire. Cucumber and melon - the guests.
The Island - Scallop on a rock - Chef presenting himself to the guests. Plants - "in the weeds"
Breadless bread plate - straight up snarking at picky customers. But you can also make a case for Lilian's plate having a broken emulsion on purpose as his way of saying SHE'S as useless as a broken emulsion.
    Memory - Self explanatory
The Mess - Pressurized vegetables - literal pun. Bone marrow - blood. Beef jus - sweat. Potato confit - tears. As a whole, it's essentially a dead body with blood pouring out. It even has a hole for the bullet.
Man's Folly - Plum vinegar exists because of Umeboshi, whey plays a vital part in making yogurt, sea kelp and lettuce are what keeps the oceans biome from wreaking havoc. But everyone either doesn't know that or forgets, because they don't taste good, aren't as attractive, or can be very difficult to work with in their natural form. It's the same with women, especially when they try to speak out against unfair treatment like what the chef describes. They get called things like "bottom feeders", like crabs.
Final scene with Margot/Erin eating the cheeseburger - She didn't care about giving him peace of mind. She just wanted to survive. And Chef acknowledged that.
Using his menu as a napkin - She never believed anything he said for one second. She is, in fact, a taker that knows her worth. And THAT'S why she lived.

    - If you decide you want a wholesome cooking movie you can try Chef (2014) bring snacks it's gonna make you hungry.
    - if you want to not eat for the rest of the day Fresh (2022)
    - If you want some 90s action camp demolition man.
    - if you want to dare the copyright gods and want a musical then Matilda the musical (I'm just assuming you've seen Matilda 😐)

I was meaning to rewatch it, but it was better to watch you react to it 😂 and I love how you predicted everything exactly right! Also a reference for the visuals of the presentation of the food is the Netflix show Chef’s Table - a really great show separate from this twisted version of it hahaha

there's a deleted scene where the women DO get bread with Man's Folly, and it IS as delicious as promised. You can even see Tyler eating some that he stole when Chef comes up to confront him about why he's there.

  • @videohistory722

Also the actor had a peanut allergy, so for a supplemental course while Margot was getting the barrel, his dinner guest had to force feed him a dish made entirely out of peanuts.

    Another layer to Tyler's betrayal:
He sincerely thought Chef was going to spare him. That's another reason why he spent all night kissing his ass.

Tyler is my favorite character, but specifically in a 'he's so shitty it's entertaining' kind of way. He sucks and he deserves every bit of the hate he gets. One of my favorite scenes of the film is when Chef publicly embarrasses him before telling him to kill himself (along with the conversation between the Chef and Margo when they 'bond' over both being service workers)

This film really makes you realize how much you'll put up with before saying something if the vibes are off. I'm sure you caught it rewatching but the vibes are SOOOO BAD the whole time, but our instinct is to stay in denial and be like "ok let's try to be polite at least" until The Mess, when we absolutely have 100% confirmation 🤣But seriously I spent the first half of the movie being like PLEEEASE MARGOT JUST GO WITH IT and then realized on rewatch how insane and unfair I was for that

I have never laughed harder at a movie that has this kind of vibe. I'm a foodie, and I was as anti-Tyler as you; seeing what happened to him made me shout "YES!" and fist-pump.
