Hope you enjoy this video! Unfortunately no Premiere with this one as it was technically already Premiered a month ago but got hit with a copyright strike and didn't get cleared until now.
I didn't realize I couldn't "Re-Premiere" this video until just now so I'll be sticking around the comments section for a bit!

I was hoping a bit more response from you regarding the different customers. The one who couldn't name one dish he ever ate from the Chef and was just eating for the status, the pretentious foodie (Tyler), the critics (even more pretentious), the celebs who wanted to be seen, etc. I would imagine you experience the gamut, and they had them all in one room. And the frustrations that go with each. Also, you briefly touched on the avant garde, but I would have enjoyed more. A breadless bread course? Still, I liked that you attempted to tackle this movie. I imagine it is difficult to critique and comment in a CZcams video.

Fun fact: They used actual chefs and wait staff from real restaurants to play the roles and the main chef was coached by a real chef on how a kitchen works

My perfect cheeseburger? The one I make in my own kitchen. 85/15 ground beef, two quarter-pound patties, pan-seared and cooked through but not overcooked through, provolone cheese, pickles, Sweet Baby Ray's, on a sesame seed bun. Dill pickle spear, pile of Lay's on the plate, yum.

17:00 I know how you mean, I've worked fine dining and that's how I learned that I'm not necessarily meant for it. It's how I've come to the decision that I'd rather just own a food truck, or take my culinary knowledge and turn it into a medical degree by studying dietetics. I have no desire to make Michelin star meals.

23:04 a single half pound smash burger patty, bacon under two slices of good ol'American cheese melted over the proteins, glueing it together, butter toasted brioche bun topped with mayo, tomato, pickle, onion, and lettuce. I want an internal temp of 158°F for the perfect pink, and that GORGEOUS crispy sear.

I spent 4 years in culinary school and then almost 5 in the restaurant industry. Executive Chefs can be brutal. I admit now that I've had a lot of years out of the industry that even though for a bit of time I wasn't even legal to buy my own booze I drank and cried alone at home after work. The industry took a lot of joy in cooking and food away for me. BUT happy ending I found my happiness and my joy in food and cooking returned. I have a lot of respect for people who last decades because it is a hard job in so many ways. I'm happy to hear that the toxicity of a lot of kitchens has gone by the wayside because in the end a good but tough mentor and environment is what is best.

Man, I know that you're reviewing a movie. It's fiction. But... the way the two of you are like, "It's pretty much like that" and various other things I've seen of kitchens behind the scene... I don't understand how ANYONE actually does it. Like, damn, just... It sounds like hell. Just pure hell. And, like, I've already once in my life turned my passion into my day job and I realized that my passion wasn't my passion anymore. I had to go find something else for a hobby because it was now, basically, dead to me. So, how anyone goes into a kitchen and doesn't come back out a couple months later just loathing food entirely... It's beyond me.

a lot of people do come out hating it. turnover is high in food service, and it’s a really hard job. but. the feeling you get when you’ve got like 10 tickets on the board and the place is packed, manager is expediting, and everyone knows what they need to do and how to do it, when everything works, that feeling is incomparable. that’s what people strive for.

Almost forgot about this one, nice to see it finally available for all of us to watch. Never saw this movie so thank you for the heads-up for that one particular scene, still shocked me regardless though. Gotta say the critic/diner who made a snide comment after said scene pissed me off, what a punchable prick.
This movie has the same energy of another culinary-themed satire movie that Uncle Roger reviewed just recently called "Hunger", though he only focused on a particular scene featuring fried rice.

I never critiqued food, but one time, I did. It wasn't bad. I was just surprised and shocked. I ordered a burger. At this place, the Old 33. The burgers are huge. I knew this. But I wanted an appetizer. I ordered chicken strips. I thought it would be 3 or 4 strips. NOPE. 12 and they were huge. I was so shocked. Happy. But shocked. Because I didn't know the appetizer was this huge. I finished my burger and took home the chicken and gave a huge tip.

    My perfect cheeseburger.... Hmmm.
Two smashed patties with that nuclear yellow american processed cheese sandwiched in between typical light and slightly sweet Pinoy buns toasted with some butter on it, resting on a bed of mustard-mayo-ketchup sauce.
I've got a bias towards using local breads, i dunno, it just feels like home... I gotta make those again.

got a question - so would it ACTUALLY be normal for a random fine dining establishment to have all the ingredients to make whatever out of the blue randomly like this? like if i pull up to a random michelin 3 star and ask the chef for a cheeseburger and by some miracle he's willing to oblige me, he'd have the beef cuts on hand, a meat grinder, AMERICAN CHEESE of all things, hamburger buns, etc. on hand ready to go?

Tyler is the fanboy who watches from afar and thinks he knows more than those who actually work in the field. I think there's nothing wrong with trying to learn from a distance, and that believing you should look down on those who want to enjoy the hobby because you have the practical experience is wrong, but Tyler took it to the extreme like most people in this movie do.
Both critics have to be pretentious to keep their image regardless of the damage they cause, the regulars just like the prestige but never savor the experience, the actor tries to be relevant, and the finance bros just like feeling like they're in power. All represent the worst side of people in any form of circle.
Chef Slowik is no different and is as much of a monster due to losing his passion, but being as pretentious as Margot/Erin claims he is, which he can't really debunk.

  • @goldmagikarp9579

For me, my ‘perfect cheeseburger’ has to be two half-pound patties, caramelized onions cooked with the burger patties, one or two leaves of lettuce under the patties so when I press down a bit the juices don’t soak into the bun and make it soggy but gather on the lettuce like a cup and just add a bit of pure meat broth with the first bite, two slices of Colby Pepper-Jack (literally just Colby-Jack and Pepper Jack mixed together) for that slightly spicy kick, sliced and cooked mushrooms, some extra-crispy bacon and a tiny bit of hot honey barbecue sauce, all sandwiches between two buttered and toasted brioche buns. Savory, spicy, a tinge of sweet to cut through the fat, it’d be enough to put me to sleep. Pair it with some chips or fries and that’s my meal for the day, bar none.
