Great tones brother. Mine is "Going to the Grave" with me. It's an Instrument unto itself. I love my Big Sky. Strymon absolutely Killed-it. oNe LovE from NYC
Thanks - a great presentation. Nice playing too!
Dude, I really enjoy your channel. I enjoy the playing even more.
Even though it’s a couple years old, this vid is just what I needed - A little encouragement to develop the more studio oriented sounds (Plate, Reflections, Hall). I admittedly shelved mine for a bit because it was just feeling a bit too shimmery.
Thanks again (subbed!) 🤘
Fantastic stuff! Brilliant tones.
Thanks for listening!
The first riffs with Magneto is about as big Stadium rock as you can possibly get. I love it!
Yes that was amazing, exactly what it sounde dlike.
Absolutely awesome you just gave me some ideas!
Excellent video n 5 terrific sounds from the Big Sky!! That third sound/setting Whoa!! ❤
Many thanks!
Love reverb pedals. I’ve yet to own a big sky but I hope to one day!! The pedal is practically a gold standard in reverb for a reason! Love your videos Leon.
It's crazy, I went from no verbs to this, Specular Tempus, Blackhole and a PCM81 in my rack in about a year :p
Killer tones. Just ordered one today.
Good ole strymon. Never a disappointment for any player! Killer stuff Leon! 🔥
This, DIG and Eventide Micropitch Delay together are the ultimate "rack in pedals" platform
@@LeonTodd haven’t tried the micro pitch yet but it’s on my radar 👀
Man that sounds awesome! I know you're loving that Ernie Ball JP 7 string. I'd love to have one of those. Love the Piezo, and they scream!
You planning on writing any new music with Ragdoll with the 7?
If the clean section from the 7-minute mark is not a song already, it needs to be. Freakin gorgeous with the double stop finger picking too 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Knobs aye! I am all about the dirty grit but that clean tone sounded amazing like an orchestra was in the room! 👍
Epic. I've always thought of these things as "post-rock in a box" and that last example proves it 👌
Yeah it's LUSH. As much as the subtle studio style stuff is overlooked, there's a reason in those epic verbs.
Ah, always heard great things about the Strymon. I’ve been really happy with my T-Rex Roommate jr so I haven’t branched out from there. Might need to track down one of these to play around with it a little bit. Thanks for posting!
They do a smaller version with 3 modes called the blueSky too
Filthy tones! Wow love it! I just got my big sky for Christmas and I'm having so much fun with it.
Just exploring the pre sets.
Yup Cloud and bloom are very addictive!😂
But adding distortions to some of these FX are amazing.
I saved this vid and I'm gonna try dialling em in and banking them for sure.💜
Looking at those turning knobs looks so satisfying. I miss turning knobs since the helix. :(
yeah I'd love it if Fractal did something like this for pure tactile joy
This is the video I've been looking for
I love this video. So inspiring. I just bought a UA Golden and I think I hate it. Miss my old Big Sky. Gonna hit the music store in the morning and grab another one.
The Golden is perfect if you want a few VERY specific sounds recreated really well. The BigSky is a creative canvas.
Happy new year, Todd.
Can you remember what killer amps you were using for this video? Awesome high-gain sound, wonderful cleans and perfectly in line with the 80s attitude of your demo.
Axe-Fx III for everything - Mark IV model for the dirt, probably the Band Commander for cleans
The Big Sky is like the DL4. There’s a lot of new stuff on the market, but at the end of the day, if you have them on your board, they’re tough to replace. In a mix, they sound amazing, sooooo easy to use, and the tones are iconic. Easily my favorite and most important pedal.
Yeah they do what they do so well, and with minimal fuss. I'm mounting this on a drawer in my rack and it's holding up against a PCM81!
The big sky is sooooo freaking good. I pretty much never use the cloud setting honestly (even though that's what I originally bought it for 😂). Ended up making a longer hall patch and a shorter plate patch that mimics an old lexicon 224. I run it post gain in stereo and it pretty much never gets turned off. I've tried other reverbs (even the Chase Bliss automotone one) and nothing has come close to how I've dialed my big sky in.
Amazing demo Leon :) Did you used the factory presets or created your own?
Awesome sounds man! Would you recommend the bis sky over the rv-500? I use an boss ms-3 for delay and reverb at the moment but i am not 100% happy with the inbuild reverbs, they're "lushy" when i am playin solo stuff live.
They're both studio quality verbs in a pedal format. The Bigsky is a little more "inspiring" with amazing presets IMO.
As usual, brilliant 😉
Stay on the good Road, and keep safe🤗🎸
Have a good weekend😍
Thanks, you too!
Hi Todd, excellent sounds. You should defo have this pedal in your rig as it’s outstanding and you are good at taking advantage of the wonderful sounds.
Btw, I was wondering, do you have this pedal in the effects loop or through the front of the amp in the amp input?
Hey, thanks! In the loop
This is the video I EXACTLY needed since I am stuck between Blue Sky and Big Sky :D
Worth the cost!
GREAT! Thank you...
You are welcome!
Yeah, this is a great unit. I was hoping you would do the cloud and shimmer. :-/
Too pricey for me, tho. I was looking at a neunaber Immerse Mk.II awhile back, but I didn't get that one either.
Might be cool to do a comparison video between the two!
Love the Music Man JPetrucci 7 string. I own 2. My first is a Desert Gold from 2008. The other is a JP7 XI BFR Onyx Blue. I love the stereo mag/piezo feature.
What is the riff at 6.15 please. You played it on another video and I love it. Thanks
Well done Brother and thanks for sharing ! Be Well All!
I was super excited to see this video and then you killed my buzz almost immediately with “no cloud reverb”. Nooooo! Completely seriously, considering how much you like the PlexVerb on the Axe 3, kind of think it would be cool to see that comparison vs the Big Sky cloud *shrugs*
Soon :D
Strymon pedals are super sounding.... Reminded me of showdown at big sky that Robbie has gone to this Wednesday. Bernie left to go there now it looks like Robbie has left us now to meet him there . Pray it's a ☀️ sunny day for them
Great demo Leon! Your DIG video made me buy the pedal. :) I have the Big Sky too and it is just insane, I love it. By the way the Magneto setting is based on the magnetic drum delay called the Binson Echorec. It truly defined the Pink Floyd sound in the 70's. Check out the songs “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” and “Time” for example.
DiG +BigSky is an amazing pairing!
@@LeonTodd I sold the DIG since. It was a truly great delay but I already had the El Capistan which was more my kindda tape delay. However the Big Sky stays for sure.
Hall sounded great! Gainy tones sounded cold and hard; then again I rarely like modern high gain tones. BUT the ambient hall stuff was great! 👍
You're charging my mind about reverb.
My favorite reverb setting used to be OFF.
Another good'un.
Cheers 🍻
hahaha same here!
Well done, curious though and I may have missed it but do you have that patched in to Axe-Fx?
yeah the amp tones are from the Axe
It probably is the most expensive pedal that I own, but it is arguably worth every cent and although I am absolutely certain, that one could recreate these sounds in the AF3, I never managed. Hell - I'm not Simeon after all :D
Great vid!
Between the Reverb block and plex Delay you can probably cop all this - but there's a beauty in this form factor.
That riff you were playing around 6:20-6:30 was really great, love that melody. Do you have it recorded?
Yep, that's a Ragdoll song called Heaven Above
That silver Jp13-7 is to die for
What tune are you playing at 7:20 for a few minutes there? Just improv? Absolutely beautiful
Yep just some ambient noodling. Cheers!
I wish i bought a big sky instead. I have a fender marine layer reverb, and an avalanche run v2
Can I go in the BigSky and than in the axe-fx 3?
yes indeed!
@@LeonTodd Thanx man.
good review
Thanks!
would you rather have a Strymon setup (BigSky+Timeline) or a Free the Tone setup (Ambi Space+Future Factory) ?
Future Factory + Bigsky for me :p
what sound do you use distortion
Axe-Fx
Thought you were going to break into "He-man Woman Hater" at 2:08. Whatever happened to playing that solo haha? You can do it, you are super talented.
Can you do one of these with the Timeline?
I had a Timeline for a few months, now I want to buy another one !
6:10 sounds glorious!
What a pedal hey
@@LeonTodd what is that riff from? Sounds awesome!
So how does this "compare" to the FM3?
Reverb, Plex Delay and Multitap Delay blocks on the FM3 will cover everything in here - I guess it's a matter of taste and what form factor you prefer.
@@LeonTodd Yes I abed them tonight and the fractal was Worlds cleaner... but also you are a gigging famous musician and yu also got greats sound sout of the Blue Sky here so I was just making sure. Fractal was way way more clear. Always interested to hear yor thoughts, thank you Leon.
30 seconds in and I'm terrified you're going to knock that drink over with the headstock
Plot twist, I knocked it over while editing this video
@@LeonTodd haha, I mean damn but. You get that on the big jobs.
@@Cubey_Sucks hahaha I love that phrase, I use it all the time when I break stuff
@@LeonTodd the less it applies to a situation the funnier it is to use
I decided the other day screw it I want it…. It came today, Plugged it in, selected swell, shoved it in the front end of my Marshall on just a clean tone because I was only home for about 10 mins when it turned up… god damn, I was that hard from the sound I could have pole vaulted the Grand Canyon and not even broken a sweat… it’s lush!
Great sounds! What's the first clean tune? Or is it improvised?
Thanks mate! That's mostly improvised, just noddling with some 7th chords
@@LeonTodd cool! Btw did you try the NightSky?
Not yet, sounds like a fun unit though
Yes- The Big Sky.
Good Morning beautiful world.
Good morning!
@@LeonTodd Thx brother for staying up late in the dark cold rain to share this amazing Vid-
so that we can wake-up to it on an epic summer morning.
Your too good to your peeps.
You’ve convinced me to want a Big Sky and Volante… for this I hate you, but in a good way.
*WTH, did you just play the riff to ROB THE CRADLE?* lmao
Worst review ever. Give me less talking and more playing.
