- Disney's upcoming live action snow white lead actress Rachel Zegler has annoyed many with the way she has acted in recent weeks, since the backlash for Snow White began. And Jenna Ortega even stated why she hates modern female characters pretty much describing Rachel Zegler's Snow White, however Jenna Ortega has once again slammed Rachel Zegler through the way she has acted during the actors strikes. Jenna Ortega has taken this oppurtunity to help give a voice to the smaller actors who are struggling, where as Rachel Zegler has basically only talked about herself.

Another huge problem is that Jenna Ortega actually LOVES the character of Wednesday. You can see she has so much passion whereas Rachel Zegler actively HATES the original Snow White. How are you gonna play a live action version of a classic Disney princess and not even like her?

Hugo Weaving doesn't like Transformers at all, but he still turned in a very good performance as Megatron because he's a professional and he understands that there are fans of the franchise and characters and they deserve the best quality he can deliver.
Exactly, the difference is Rachel wants to change the original character, and Jenna wants to bring back the original character.

Jenna started her career when she was really young actually. She played the character of young Jane in the TV show Jane the Virgin, so honestly I think she has always known how the filmmaking industry works and just tries to keep her integrity intact.
The princess is fourteen. In order to make her relatable, Walt Disney made her daydream about finding a prince. She’d been stuck with an abusive stepmother. Snow White wasn’t just longing for a prince, she was dreaming of *_permanent_* happiness. Something she’d forgotten.
They could have developed that and made a movie about parents abuse and how trauma manifests in a child and how she frees herself from that trauma with the help from the wonderful 7 dwarfs.. its a very relatable theme.. instead the made this woke shit with a narcissistic brat.
And to be fair Snow White was a leader in a very feminine way. She made the dwarves, 7 grown ass men, in their own house go wash up before making them dinner 😂😂 even at the end of the movie because of her personality, not just her beauty, had all of these men rushing to her aid to fight the evil queen when she threatened Snow White.

I heard someone ask “who does Jenna Ortega think she is?” In response to her pushback against the writers of Wednesday. And I thought; she’s a talented, strong and empowered young woman who stands up for what she believes in and takes ownership of the art she’s creating. She’s everything that popular media champions for.
Her criticisms of her show were also things I wasn't liking about it. Although overall I liked it.
Jenna is a snobby little whiner. Just because she's not as bad as Rachel, doesn't mean she's not a snobby little whiner.

Ultimately she’s the one who has to bring the character to life on screen, which means she has to take ownership of the character and feel a connection to the character. If she feels that the writers are making creative decisions that will ultimately effect her performance and the way the fans perceive the entire series then she has the right to voice her concerns and even refuse the script. Because her career and lively hood is on the line.

My biggest issue with the Snow White reboot honestly is the way they've been acting towards the original movie, I am honestly not a fan of the original movie but to disparage it like they are currently is just wrong. A while back Disney had a show called Once Upon A Time, Snow White is a character played by Ginnifer Goodwin. They made that Snow White exceptionally strong and very capable of taking care of herself and she had her prince charming, he however fully understood she was capable of taking care of herself and only helped when she needed. They complimented each other and used their love for each other as a strength not a deficit. So to hear them talk about love and such in this manner is very disheartening imo.
Why didn’t they take inspiration from that retelling in Once Upon A Time for this remake?
OUAT was as unrealistic as all of the SW versions. Lana Parilla was way hotter than Goodwin, as was Charlize Theron over that waifish emo twilight chick.

I enjoy the original Disney Snow White for what it is: a superior animation film based on a dark German fairy tale, with the truly gruesome part removed. In the original tale, the evil queen does not fall off a cliff but attends Snow White's and the Prince's wedding.
The Prince has her arrested and forces her to wear searing hot iron slippers and orders her to dance for them, which she does untill dying of exhaustion.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Japanese animation was hyped as being the best thing ever. So I watched 'Akira' and was rather disappointed. Compared to the regular tv animated features of that time, Akira was much better of course.
But still it couldn't hold a candle to Snow White.
It's a sappy tale mainly intended for children, who will still enjoy it when they see it for the first time. And when they grow older, they may appreciate the superior animation.
And the witch is still scary.
I am a fan of the original Disney Snow White. And I was a fan of the Once Upon a Time series ( only the first two seasons) As a child I enjoyed the fun of the original. I never thought of Snow White as weak, she found herself in difficulties and rose to the occasion. That, to me, is strength. I was raised by a strong woman and my Dad was raised by a strong woman. It runs in the family. All that to say, I liked your comment. And thought you had a legitimate point.

Rachel Zegler isn't really on strike. She was there to get free publicity and use the strike to get more money. It's people like this that attract negative attention to the strike and ruin it for the smaller actors and writers who can't afford their next meal. I’m so glad we have actors like Jenna Ortega. She seems like an amazing influence. I also totally agree with her about how female characters are written. I’m a girl, and i feel like in so many ways, women who are written to just be “female empowerment” tropes are kinda counterproductive, actually creating the opposite effect sometimes.
A good example of this phenomenon imo is the movie version Hermione Granger. In the Harry Potter movies, they literally took away moments from Ron in the books and just gave them to Hermione making her look completely perfect and infallible. Idk about other people, but i don’t see it as empowering at all to set the narrative that women have to be these caricatures of “strong, intelligent, badass” and shown as people who just do everything right all the time and never mess up in order to be respected/celebrated. I want to see complex women who are HUMAN, with flaws, strengths and weaknesses. Not these hyper-exaggerated ideas of perfection or strength with “girl power” just slapped onto it for clout. It’s not original. It just feels so phony and superficial.
I’m not a girl, but I really, really wish we would get more complex and likable female characters. Female leads in movies nowadays all feel like symbols, not people. Whereas male leads don’t typically have this problem (unless they are dumbed down so that female characters can shine) because sending a message isn’t a priority, so writers focus entirely on the character. I don’t blame writers in Hollywood for that despite blaming them for god-awful stories in films. Those “empowering” decisions are mostly forced into by executives.
Audiences don’t like to be lectured social studies from a fictional story. Making a woman unbeatable, cocksure and a perfect person on-screen isn’t a wise way to empower them. The audience won’t applaud, they will roll their eyes.
And I get your deal with Hermione. In the books, Ron brings more to the trio than just his silly gimmicks. Hermione and Ginny in the films are two examples of what Hollywood does wrong with the ladies. They don’t realize that by making them perfect, they are essentially reduced to two-dimensional characters, (Hermione isn’t any more complex from Ginny in that aspect) and therefore, people don’t care for them. People literally don’t care for Rey, or Grace from Terminator:DF, or Captain Marvel, or Helena Shaw.

Also, in regards to Halle Bailey she had a secret weapon in her corner-Jodi Benson. I don’t think it was a mistake that Disney has made the ‘Passing of the Torch/Book/Comb/Dinglehopper’ a big little big moment in some of their live action remakes. It helps to have the original actor mentoring and helping field PR for the film.
Halle was phenomenal in that film.

The part that makes it sad for me is that she IS talented - enough so to land a lead role in the West Side Story remake. Her attitude, however, are already overshadowing that talent. It's time we see more authentic and well-rounded female characters on screen instead of just clichéd "empowerment" tropes.

Right?? It was like that Cinderella movie with Brandi. Diverse cast but the acting was what made it so memorable , the chemistry between characters (romantic, rival, familial, friendship, etc...) Was on point and really gave the story life and fun to it.

I'm kinda surprised Jenna Ortega got flack for saying the writers for Wednesday didn't know what they were doing. That was clear from the first episode. So she put her foot down to defend the character she loved so much.
Meanwhile Rachel Zegler is putting her foot down to tear down a character she hates that many others grew up loving.
Jenna is definitely more a class act in comparison, for sure. She's poised, professional, and well spoken. I didn't know she was reaching out to help smaller actors the way she is, and that makes points with me in the long run. Well done on her part!

The thing that really elevated Jenna Ortega in my opinion was that her character was literally WRONG in the biggest climax of the series. She wasn't perfect, she wasn't some stupid 'girlboss' trope or a Mary Sue, she was wrong and a lot of bad things came out of that, before she collected herself and fought back and won through sheer hard work and cleverness, exactly how Wednesday would have always handled it.
I had zero problems with Halle as Ariel. She has a gorgeous voice and that was the point of Ariel.
I DO have an issue with Rachel as Snow White. She doesn’t fit the character at all, attitude wise, OR looks wise. AND she’s bashing the original character (while also calling her iconic??) AND they completely changed the whole storyline🤦🏻♀️
Like, this movie isn’t even about Snow White anymore. It’s about a girl boss in a Snow White costume hanging out with 7 random folks.

She’s better off taking the role of Wednesday because Gomez Addams is actually Hispanic. The whole reason why people were mad at Rachel taking the role of Snow White was because she’s a brown Latina. Replacing her with a White Latina doesn’t make it better. Snow White isn’t supposed to be of Hispanic descent.
I agree with all of these things. Actors are normal people after all and they can have different motivations for why they are acting or dedicating their life to Art. And I definitely think Jenna Ortega’s motivation is truly the one of someone who wants to represent a character in the truest way possible, while recognizing herself not as someone more important because of the money she earns, or leaving in a bubble where only she is the main character.
Being humble, self-conscious, passionate…it’s something that makes an artist who is doing his/her work for a true purpose, not just the show-off, which probably Rachel Ziegler seems to convey.
But still, I don’t see why hating her. I believe that she loves acting but I just hope she stops thinking about her social position so much when going to produce artistic kind of things or , like, giving credits just to herself

The thing that annoys me is that a legendary fictional character is used in order to spread her "message" rather than actually making a decent movie. They let her openly detest the source material and yet they’ll still slap it’s iconic name on it to rake in a default audience, as well as continue to feature the original on their streaming site.
Disney wastes their time and resources making these remakes when they could be making more great originals that actually exhibit growth, instead of hollow gestures and faux concern for women’s representation through reheated templates.
By making characters more "relatable" and suitable for a "modern" audience, they made them flatter than a sheet of paper and as reliable as dog poo.
