Young Thug Trial Gets Delayed as Judge Considers Removal from Case

- Judge Ural Glanville announced on Monday afternoon that the Young Thug RICO trial will be on pause until a different judge decides whether or not he should be removed from the case. This news comes after Judge Glanville said a full transcript of the controversial chamber meeting that happened last month will be released. Several defense attorneys, including attorney Doug Weinstein, filed motions for the judge to be recused. Attorney Weinstein spoke to Law&Crime's Jesse Weber about this update.

Young Thug faces nearly a dozen charges, including possession of drugs and weapons, participation in criminal street gang activity, and conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO Act. The rapper was arrested in May of 2022 along with 27 other alleged gang members. Many of those defendants have taken plea deals in the case.

I've had alot of criminal cases including conspiracy charges. One time in pretrial hearings the judge accidentally said "when Mr Smith is convicted" instead of "if Mr Smith is convicted" which I immediately jumped on and called bias to which my barrister agreed. the judge begrudgingly had to agree too and he recused himself. I had to change court to a different circuit for the retrial, I was on minor charges so they actually sent me to the local youth court to stand before a magistrate 😅
In the UK this would be a mistrial then a retrail after the star chamber meeting especially if the transcript shows the judge was involved in directly or indirectly coercing the witness to testify.
The state nor Judge care they are wasting taxpayers money and JURORS time. Unbelievable ‼️
And yet law n crime misrepresents facts again! Exparte with a sworn witness judge and prosecutors, & not one defense attorney present=conspiracy!

How many days he decide since he’s unavailable that we are going to not have court for weeks and weeks at a time? I have never seen a trial where the judge does things on his timing! It IS HIS FAULT! He knows the DA has a long list and the trial will be long so why not keep things moving swiftly! He’s too busy for this case they should give it to someone who has the time to run trial with minimum days off and comfort breaks.

How humiliating to have to read out loud to everyone a request for your own recusal. This judge and others should lose their law license, plenty of evidence.
That's how recusals work. All judges have to read them publicly if they are warranted.

A judge should be more than willing to recuse. It reflects more positively about a judge that is willing to than one that is not willing.
In countries where judges in superior courts are appointed, a judge with a history of recusals isn't likely to get the job because they'd be seen as incapable of exercising impartiality and more likely to end up disrupting the court's roll (since their cases may have to be offloaded onto another judge).
Knowing that there's only so many judges per court, if judges start stepping aside because they've been asked to by an attorney and for optics, what safeguard would you use so that attorneys don't use recusals as a reset button and that there's no backlog of cases on the court roll from recusals?
The incompetence of this county judicial system from the DA to the prosecutors to the judge is HILARIOUS.

I personally feel after investing many months watching this trial, Fulton County Supreme Court, needs a sweep to replace the bad apples and investigate farther with judges who aren’t following ethical standards because if this took place with strong,ambitious defense attorneys who weren’t afraid to jeopardize their License to represent their clients, much respect to them all for revealing such evilness and working together as one united law firm making sure this corruption is brought to justice for every misconduct committed herein. There’s probably many convicted criminals who are serving a lot of years over this judge who practically committed a crime for violating rules of conduct, who hid information and worked closely with the state to indict a man who might be completely innocent . Judge needs to be charged and disbarred asap 💯

😂😂😂 No one with common sense believes they are innocent (I'm an occasional fan); However, there have been issues since jury selection. That said, there is no way that this trial is fair. From officers committing perjury and making xesual advances, to the chit-show of witnesses. Organized crime has not been “lawfully” proven.
