Why no one wants to work:
    1. Hostile work environment.
    2. People at work trying to sabotage you so they can either get rid of you or take your position.
    3. Bad bosses.
    4. Unrealistic work given (large amount of work to be done in short amount of time).
    5. Your company is having cutbacks and you know the end of it's day's are coming soon.

Narcissistic personality disordered people seek power so if you work with at least 20 people you can bet there will be one narcissist in the group who weasels their way into being your supervisor then makes the entire work environment hostile. It's not that no one "wants" to work, what an absolutely ridiculous saying it's not that people don't "want" to work but they want a better "work life" balance. They are realizing the "value" of their time that the pandemic revealed. Also it's about standards of "work" which is the main issue, pay, and longer hours for being less.

Explain that there will be periods where you might not generate any income for months. Maybe even a year. You should have a windfall to weather this before starting something on your own. Have a backup plan. If what you’re doing doesn’t work out, can you enter or return to your previous industry. Can you divert your path to salvage what you did so far. Positive is nice, but realistic reduces risk and regrets.

I think answer to this problem is quite simple. Being a middle class is becoming more and more untenable over the years and decades. If you are making 50k USD a year in the US, you are effectively poor. Yes, you can buy an iPhone, but you can’t buy a house. People can’t be certain about their work anymore in anyway. I also feel like HOW the work is showing up in corporate is different than HOW it shows up in small businesses or starting your own thing. For my career corporate stripped all the delightful things about the job, took away all the "fun" aspects or designated it to a select few and everyone else got the leftover scraps. Add tighter deadlines + leaner budgets = longer hours at the same salary... you're just constantly being squeezed on every end. It sucks on all sides: the actually job or tasks that you're being asked to do, the type of work you're doing, the pay, the time you have to complete it, etc.

As an old guy I don't really blame young people for that. The economies of the global west have been on the decline since the 1970s or early 1980s and their, reasonable, expectations can no longer be met. Governments will claim that GDP keeps growing so all is good. Well, the wealthy have bought, through corrupt politicians, the tax laws and loopholes they want and those keep any growth in the GDP going to them. You did a very good covering this issue and I thank you for that.

Nobody has ever wanted to work. If you did, you'd have to pay them to do it.
The problem with gig jobs, starting your own business, becoming an influencer, or content creator is that very very few are successful and even fewer are successful in the long term. It is extremely important to have a backup plan and assess the risks you can take before going that direction.
Pendulums are not an unstoppable force. When something is trending and popular the pendulum swings that direction, but there is always a counter force pushing back. That moving force always runs out of energy and the pendulum swings back in the opposite direction.
Work will be draining at times, but keep gaining skills and moving forward.

The gig economy took hits during the pandemic. After that, my side hustle hit rock bottom. What saved my ass was me living frugally anyway and my 9-5 job. I left my old and found a new one. Much better paid, great work environment but a lot of commuting. Things are very different in the twenties. The folks who just went 9-5 corporate have a financially stable life often also a stable relationship. They suffer differently though.

A musician who does a 'gig' is paid by the event or bar for that one performance. A CZcamsr is just a contractor working for CZcams. CZcams can change the terms of their profit model anytime they want and you either have to adapt to help CZcams stay profitable, or you quit CZcams. An Uber driver is not really doing a 'gig' because their whole job being an Uber driver means staying under the umbrella of the Uber platform. Independent taxi drivers are normally considered illegal depending on the rules.

Also if you live in a low income country, knowing English/languages is an asset, but for Americans, you can't compete wagewise with someone in Eastern Europe or anywhere else, so languages are useless. There just isn't the hope for Americans that there is for Europeans and people in countries where work is outsourced to or has a social safety net and good labor laws.

If money doesn't bring you happiness, you're doing it wrong. It's *your* fault, not the money's. Educate yourself and learn how to use it wisely.
And be f*cking grateful, if you happen to have money, because it *does* make everything easier. No excuses. No shifting responsibilities.

If people, especially men, are motivated they will work hard, day after day. Work makes you feel good in the sense that you accomplished something and provided for yourself or others.
I'm over 50. I quit a very well paying job and went back to working for myself and building a team offshore to work remotely. The main reason, IT NO LONGER MAKES SENSE TO WORK HARD. Given the rapid decline in purchasing power due to money printing in most Western countries and the increased tax burden, why would I work 40-60 hours a week for less and less every year while I'm priced out of the market due to said money printing and new laws.
For example...why would I or anyone work 10 hours a day to pay say 50%+ in income taxes and source deductions, pay 19% sales tax, 70% taxes on gas and diesel, property taxes, tire tax, road tax, liquor tax, tax on tax on tax....where I'm left with 25% of my gross pay in an environment where inflation outpaces salary increases by 7-10% until I'm 67. Only to get a pension that won't pay the rent for decent apartment in most cities. Meanwhile, what little freedoms I have left are being eroded to put me into a virtual digital prison were everything I do is monitored and I'm punished for saying "I'm not loving it" or being an obedient servant to a political class that hates its citizens and are being paid to rob and enslave them. Think I'm exaggerating....move to Canada or an EU country like Germany.
Nope....I'm enjoying the decline and working less. F%ck-em.

Businesses have been playing short and sh1tty with the social contract for decades. The pandemic was the just the final loss of credibility: the way our workplaces behaved revealed to us that they would literally rather we died than reorient themselves to a business model that didn't prioritize growth at all costs. Add to that the insane consolidation of economic power and a job market that will require objectively insane levels of pre-qualification for a job that you could have walked into with a resume and a plucky attitude 35 years ago, it's no wonder people are done. This is despair, not rebellion. Rebellion is a lot uglier and significantly more violent.

  • @janHodle

I want to say something to the first point: inflation and salaries. The quantity theory of money is wrong in the short term but correct on the long run. If central bank „print“ money (they create it out of thing air) the money base rise. Nothing happens to the consumers. As soon as something happens on markets (war heat ever) where price demand equilibrium is disturbed. Now there is a much bigger money base that can „bid“ on products and services. Prices rise dramatically until the new equilibrium is met. This is called high inflation rate periods. Check M2 money base and the current supply. Prices will not go down where the have been. Inflation rate will go down again, but this only means the new higher prices will only rise slower. Salaries on the other hand will only be increased AFTER inflation already happened. And the rises depend on a statistical basked which is highly manipulated (check it yourself). This means you‘ll not get a full compensation of inflation which makes you poorer. But where is the rest of the inflation hidden? Simplify answer: in assets. Big money knows how the money systems works and our fiat currencies are not rock solid. So everything else can become money: stocks, real estate, gold, silver, bitcoin. There you‘ll find the answer why so many people can‘t afford a house anymore, especially young people which don‘t have any assets. There was a chance to generate a lot of wealth. This was at the beginning of the pandemic where all assets went down (check stock markets). People who went „all“ in are now in a complete different situation. For the rest: the ship has sailed. Now we have a new situation. Central banks try to bring inflation down with high interest rates. This makes is more difficult to buy a house. On the same side companies struggle and are less willing to hire new staff or to rise salaries significantly… As you can see: the situation has many layers and is difficult. We can only say: it‘s not going to become better. Study the money system! How does „fiat“ works. How did money work in the past and what was money. Then study principals of economy… Then understand what is an asset and what is a liability… this will change your life…

Not one wanted to work before either, but they typically couldn’t get away with not working. When I realized I couldn’t tolerate having a job anymore I became a barber, but the only reason I could afford to be a barber was because I didn’t care if everyone looked down on me for living in my parent’s basement. I just stayed there until I inherited the house. Eventually I got used to the fact that men’s haircuts are not an absolute necessity like food, for instance. I became an expert on identifying all of the potential customers who would never come in such as bald men who shave their heads themselves, and all of the pony-tail assholes who never cut their hair except to chop off the end of the ponytail. Then also I could also recognize whether or not men went to a barber instead of a beautician. Incompetent haircuts with no tapering or fading were quite obviously done by beauticians who most men won’t allow to touch their hair. Apparently some of them don’t care or else prefer to have a woman rubbing up against them to increase her tip. You can’t win. Even if self-employed you still have to take crap off of your customers sometimes. But anything is better than the merchant marine where you’re stuck at work for months without a day off. And if you work less than 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, you’re considered lazy and get put off of the ship at the next American port.
