Test Your Reaction Time vs Noah Lyles

- Test your 100m reaction speed vs the current world champion.
1. Turn up the sound
2. Listen for the starting gun.
3. Press spacebar or k
4. Tap to play again (3 times each play).
If you think this competition is unfair, well, it is.
Noah Lyles is the reigning World Champion and has trained himself to react almost instantaneously, firing a long chain of physiological responses throughout his body.
You, on the other hand, are sending that signal to your fingertip. But isn’t it fun to try to beat the reigning “world’s fastest” at (a small part of) his own game?
And guessing when the gun will fire won’t help. If you react faster than 0.100 of a second, you’re out.
In elite sprinting, there are no second chances and races are won or lost by hundredths, even thousandths of a second.
So how fast are you?
*Apologies to Zaharnel Hughes, he's actually in lane 5 next to Noah, the arrow is pointing to Letsile Tebogo in lane 3 who had a .129 RT

I can😎
Did you get Christian Coleman time tho mr lyles?
Hi bro
He commented 😂
do the 400
Real
I got disqualified for being too fast.
Same
no it means u predicted the timing of the gun rather than reacting to the bang
@@Nat-th8pb or I actually reacted that fast. It’s not impossible and you can mimic reacting to it like someone in track would if you close your eyes and wait for the actual sound of the bang
@@gabrielguerrero3404 it’s physically Impossible for anyone to react under 0.1s. That’s why it’s classed as false starting. Meaning that u did indeed just predicted the timing of the gun. If it was not a regular rhythm you wouldn’t be able to do that. What I expect happened was your motor function were already getting signals to begin pressing the button as it goes off. While that may seem like ur reacting fast. In reality it signals will have already crossed ur chemical synapses and back towards ur finger. Meaning ur cognitive was already in the process of getting ur body to more. That is a false start. Or if we’re giving u the benefit of the doubt it could possibly be that ur finger is less of a load for muscles to move as opposed to ur entire body. Making u click faster but ur reaction time would be no faster
@@Nat-th8pbprobably the latter
This is great practice before a track meet!👍
Definitely!
That's not Zarnel Hughes. That's Letsile Tebogo.
Glad im not the only one who noticed that😂
Yep, good catch, dropped the ball on that one and didn't even notice until after it was posted.
Apologies to Zharnel (he is in lane 5). As a side note Tebogo was the second fastest with a .129.
Thats nice and all but you can't compare the click of a mouse to a reaction start.
Noah:
1- Just had to literally move to consider a start
Clicking to stop de video:
1- Clicking the mouse or space bar which implies pushing the button all the way through
2- Send the input to the machine
3- The input will be processed and act upon based on the internet velocity
So its literally impossible for someone to react faster on pausing the video with a click of a button than Noah react start. Not even Noah himself cliking on the mouse/space bar lol
the blocks have sensors that measure the applied forces. your statement is wrong and it works like this:
0- Reacting to the gun
1- Initiiating movement by actively pushing against the block pads (force applied must exceed a certain amount to be registered)
2- Send the input to the machine
3- The input will be processed
furthermore the video sequence you are watching has already been loaded and can be pause client sided - without any internet connection at all
@@Luis110 still though, assuming youre on a typical device there will be 1: 16.7ms delay as the framerate is probably capped at 60, additional input delay on many devices (touch screens aren't known for their speed, laptop keyboards usually have a 20-100ms delay, a basic office mouse will have a 10 ms delay), safe to say thats another 20ms delay on most devices, so right there you have roughly 37ms delay added.
as for other issues, a keyboard or mouse doesnt send a signal upon contact but rather upon release, the fastest people in the world can microtap under 5ms, but that is an additional delay, most people will hold for over 20ms though.
In favourable conditions, the delay will be around 10-15ms (which is already far slower than systems used to detect sprinters (delay of around 1ms) (if you have a gaming setup etc) in bad conditions delay could be 150ms.
Great points, @Luis110! Device latency indeed plays a significant role in reaction times, especially in settings not optimized like professional setups. You're right that the frame rate is capped at 60. We did a lot of testing and settled on a ~28ms delay from the gun sound to the timer starting, definitely not perfect, just a fun way to try and get a sense of reaction times.
I keep getting the false start like how??@@OutperformOfficial
ratio
I felt like the music made me start reacting slower, I went from hitting .180 every time to .250 with the music in the background
That is really interesting to hear! In testing we had the opposite experience, I'm sure it differs from person to person.
Yes.. that's true... I had the same experience too
Took me the entire video to realize it wanted us to pause and see our reaction time from when we can pause it lol
haha, better late than never!
For sure 💙💯
This is fun!
I did 0,118 and I'm not a good starter. Nice test it's really helpfull for the athletes.
👍
I like this. I got 0.101 like five times in a row
Nice work, hopefully you're a sprinter 🙂
@@OutperformOfficial im not even kidding, i clicked so fast the millisecond counter didnt even start yet, so technically im not disqualified
If I was a sprinter this would make me panic. Like I'm a hair away from false starting every time? Imagine being on the starting line of the 100m Olympic final with that in your mind.
Got a 0.201 Lets Goooo...
Sprint swimmer instincts kicking in!!!!
100 freestyler right here and got 0.168! I’m always the first one off the blocks in my races 😂
PB: 1.17
Now got Zharnel Hughes time 0. 101. Christian Coleman's time 0.135. Both on phone. Let's see who wins this Olympic Year 2024 and beyond. Thank you. 💯 🆙️
Heck yeah, impressive on the phone! Seriously looking forward to the 100m this year in Paris, it's going to be all time.
You guys got any tips on 200m drills to get faster at it?
.135 first try. Now all I gotta do is lose 50lbs
haha, best of luck with the diet 🙂
bro i kept getting .280-.350 😂
Try closing your eyes, studies have shown that people react slightly faster to auditory stimuli vs visual.
SAME and ive been sprinting for years
i got 0.086, it's impossible my reaction time is that fast and since it kept on improving i probably just memorized when to pause due to attempts. bbut still a nice tool to use! i would love one in which the gun shot cames at a different delay every time
On the last 3 it does change slightly. Try doing it with your eyes closed to better simulate a racing situation where you are only reacting to sound.
my reaction time at a actual track meet is way worse 😭 But i still PR'd Every meet and ended with a 26.6, need a better reaction time if i want to get that sub 25 😭
got 0.183, 0.188 and 0.183. funnily enough i got much better times being relaxed than actually fully anticipating the shot going off. my times when i was fully tense waiting for the sound were all above 0.233...
tried again, got 0.170, 0.151, 0.167, 0.170, (false start), 0.183
That is very interesting and supports the idea that it's important not to be too amped up in the set position - maintaining a relaxed focus.
One thing you might want to try is closing your eyes, studies show that people respond faster to auditory stimulus vs visual.
After a couple of tries my reaction time seem to get better.Could be cause I knew what time the gun was going to set off .Also seems switching between pressing spacebar ,and to the key letter k seem to help me improve.
Nice, it could also be because you improved. The brain and nervous system is highly trainable with reaction time.
0.101. Just didn't false start.
Perfect!
I had the fastest reaction time among the WC finalists💀 fastest - 0.101; average - 0.145
Nice!
bro as soon as i hear the start of that gun i pressed k and they said false start LOL
At the last call in the video the gun fire was a bit delayed ig.
Now 0.120
LETS GO! I ACTUALLY DID IT! 0.135
Died for reacting too fast is crazy, I know it’s prefixing but I got 0.067 on my first pause because I know how the start works.
I had Christian Coleman's reaction of 0.135.
Hopefully you're a sprinter 🙂
0.203 …. Then I realized doing it on my phone wasn’t going to work then got .136 on my laptop 😂
Nice, yeah its a lot better on a laptop
I managed to fluke a .103 ms reaction but averaged .16-.18ms reactions(later fluked a perfect .100 reaction only to have my better reactions after that be .13 or .15 and never .14 or .12 for some reason)
Pretty good!
Dude, that’s Tebogo not Zarnel Hughes.
.145 sec every time. It has to do with computer speed + your reaction time.
101 first try but I’m pupping adrenaline so
Hello sir
I share to my idea about this video
When i trying this reaction sound with tap of finger in shorts video my timing around 0.120 to 0.175 rt
When i tap finger on this screen on normal mode video my actual reation around 0.130 to 0.180 second but finger and screen pause time almost 0.100 second plus means 0.230 to 0.300 in pause mode
Even i trying my rt average in leg 🦵 0.150 to 0.190 second
Is my reaction good or bad ?
Your leg reaction times are quite good. They indicate a strong ability to respond to stimuli, which is beneficial in various sports, particularly in sprinting..
The additional time you noted when interacting with a screen can be attributed to the mechanical latency of the device (the time it takes for the screen to register a touch), which is not a reflection of your physical reaction speed but rather the technology's response time.
Overall, your reaction times are competitive. Keep working at it and they'll get even faster.
I have no idea why they don’t just play a beat for a couple bars and then you go. But maybe because I understand nothing about it
i beat hughes by .005 seconds!
I'm a footballer, and did track as a side quest or whatever. My first reaction, while posing like I was on the starting blocks was 0.117. I'm 16 and my fastest time is 10.98s, and my latest competition time was 11.03s. I than got 0.000, 0.086, 0.000 and lastly 0.001. I don't like track and field, just a footballer.
That is a great idea to pose like you are on the starting blocks! Too bad you don't like track sounds like you have serious potential. However with sports you should definitely do the one you enjoy.
Woooow hahahahaah 😂😂😂I like that That’s will help to be more reactive even if for race meeting 😁🔥💪🏾
Honestly Nice concept ! 🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾
Great to hear, appreciate it. Best of luck with your starts!
Got 103 as a sprinter 😁
About perfect, good to hear you're a sprinter.
Je dois appuyer deux fois aussi
Zhanel Hughes is so fast that he false started.
Before the video starts, no, no I cannot. I used to run track & I was always last out of the blocks by a lot. Got a 0.351, then a 0.283, tbh better than I expected, I was expecting 0.400 or so. Ayy 3rd try 0.204, that's actually an acceptable (still not good) reaction time.
0.033... I should have taken athletics when I was young
yessir 0.101
0,133 wow
0.117s 1st try. 🌲🍿👀🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼🌲🏃🏾♂️💥💨💨💨💨💨
0.101
0.100 on the dot
Nice!
My best RT time on competition was 0.131
Pretty impressive!
I am christian coleman
Nice, you've got a great start!
0.187 damn so close yet so far
I got .101 the first time,
Then i got .067 and they said my reaction time is considered faster than humanly possible so I'm disqualified 😂😂😂
0.97 i must be stopped
0.135 light work
Yall pointed to tebogo instead of hughes🤦♂️
You're absolutely right, realized that after we posted 😬 On the plus side it's actually cool to see how many people follow the sport and can call out that mistake.
0.185 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I got disqualified on first go 0.067
So fast I got disqualified apparently at 0.084. Former sprinter btw...
then you just guessed instead of actually reacting
I got 0.101
It’s pretty easy since we anticipate it
First try .101
Well if you were a sprinter you’d get disqualified
@@billarabga1055 right lol
0.151
Now 0.133
i got exactly 0.100
Nice!
zharal hughs
I got 0.118
0,137
0.101
0.068 wow
NAH I PRESSED TOO FAST
just curious. why is it a false start if you are too quick. fair enough that yit's not humanly possible but if you've gone after the gun then surely it's still legal?
cuz then the officials wouldn't know if it was because of impecabble timing or false started. You can gamble when to start and if you're lucky you'll be just after the shot but that's not humanly possible if you don't gamble
The rules are based on the idea that it takes ~.1 second for the sound of the gun to reach your ear so if you leave before that you anticipated the gun and went to early.
@@OutperformOfficial I wish this wasn't the rule tbh. I feel like any start after the gun is fair game, and the current rule of zero tolerance on false starts is enough to deter people from gambling. Or at least they should reduce the margin to something much further from the possible like 0.05s. Views?
you pointed to tebogo not zharnel hughes
You're right, realized the mistake after it was posted. Although great to see that sprinting fans such as yourself are paying attention!
i wanna be 1 ms
i got 0.135
0.100
Nice work!
0.067 seconds not bad
i got 0.006 and got disqualified , bot doesnt know im superman
.135 💀
Where my 220 to 260 bois at
They're just a little slow to respond 😉
on my first try with the music i got .051 lol
I stopped at 0.000...
I got um...00.67 so im out (i do track)
Update: this does not work on phone
Try the phone version: czcams.com/users/shortsLiofdUnrQN4?feature=share
Not legal fastest Reaction Time: 0.051s
Legal Fastest Reaction Time: 0.101s
That ain’t Zarnel Hughes
You're right, can't believe we messed that one up, good eye.
No worries, it happens. Letsile is also very fast.
Spacebar 0.235. Mouse 0.4+
It's no real test. Real test is run yours legs ))
Absolutely, running with your legs is the real test! This video is just a fun way to get a sense of how quick professional athletes react. It’s all about experiencing that speed in a different format. Hope you enjoy the challenge and have a bit of fun with it!
A ran a 12.9 with a 0.9 reaction time at 14 years old 😢
Doesnt that count as a false start? (Just wondering, I always thought that rule was kinda dumb)
@@sammyking7806 it would be a false start if you started before 0.1 seconds, but he was 0.9
@@robotrobot3932 Ohhh you're right I totally misread it...
i got false start first try lol
I’m a marathoner. Why am I stressing about this? I keep trying lmao
haha, well, we made the thing and I've done it like 20 times 🙂
@@OutperformOfficial yeah it’s fun as heck haha
