Just paint it white again with the tan interior and gold decals. It'll look good and it's what it came with...it would be cool to get the cb radio working again through the factory radio. The carb may need an upgrade to something else, but keep the original included in the sale.
Lee, if anyone can put this "elco" back on the road and looking great it will be you. Best of luck to you with this project. I would be willing to bet Nikki will be looking forward to you getting home to see her.

Well, Lee, you seem to do quite well with the white and black paint scheme., so I say go with that. It should look great with the tan interior. And you probably have some white and black paint in stock. Personally, I am a fan of the early 70's El Camino! But, of course, EVERYBODY wants ALL THE MONEY for them!
I never liked these- but as I grow older they have become more appealing- I like the center console and shifter! That’s a good car/truck/whatever it is
Would love to see it as a new project. And i'd keep it the same colors. That's got to be a low Production color cause I've never seen one With that color combination.❤😊

White and gold is nice if done right with decals and emblems wheels and tires. Match the gold interior and keep it gold. That's got possibilities written all over it!

If you are keeping the brown interior then black over gold with the "Light Gold/Orange/Brown" stripe kit would look good with the correct (or matching) rally wheels with trim rings and centers would look good.

I know black is expensive but I think black with gold would look sharp. I like the front on the ‘82 better also, but that front isn’t dad. Looks like a good project.

Your car but I think solid white with whatever sticker kit is appropriate for solid white would be an easy sell. That gold bottom while I know is correct,,,it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
78-87 body style are the better looking car/truck for sure. Put the OG style graphics back on it after you paint it. You won't regret it.

Had a 79 and regret selling it. It was great for hauling kayaks and motorcycles as the bed height was low to the ground. Wish GM would do a modern version.

Some 1978-1979 could be had with a 350. Also you could get a 4 speed trans in them.

A malibu station wagon bumper will bolt right up to the original brackets, I know I had a 1981 ElCamino regret selling it.

I remember cleaning up brand new 79 El Caminos for a Chevy dealer in the summer of 79. One of them is still around town.
I would paint it white again and paint the wheels gold and go with the gold stripes and bottom. It will look really good, trust me!
It Reminds me of the Olds Cutlas Hurst edition color combination. Very sharp. Also cleaned up a black/gold and a white/gold Hurst Cutlass for the same dealer. I like the looks of the last generation of El Camino. The 73 is Ok too.

Funny the guy with the '78 had that '71 Chevelle.. I just fixed and flipped a white '78 El Camino and bought the (also white) '71 I'm doin' with the money from that sale. Made about 4k on that '78..more ppl were interested than I expected, she was gone in an hour, it was a drag race to my house for the buyers..

I'm usually buildin' somethin' similar myself, which already has a cool like minded connection factor, but also, occasionally I see that just ahead you're about to tackle a task I'll soon be doin' myself in the near future, and I get a refresher warm up class watchin' u do it first..it's kinda like sharin' a garage at times - diggin' it - keep 'em coming Champ 😎👍

Very rare with the console that alone should make someone pay a bit more if searching for one...Yet alone the SS trim and 1 owner,you got a good one on your hands cant wait to see the direction you take it..

I Like The 78-87 El Camino I Use To Have A 80 Had A 267 V8 I Installed A 350 With Duel Exhaust
The shut off valve is to stop water flowing to the heater core which is right next to the evaporator so the AC blows cooler. Nice find.

@@clunkersandclassics It's a replacement for a factory shut off valve that was operated by vacuum when the AC was turned on. The factory set-up only closed the heater core inlet hose, was cleaner and did not have those round handles. Like you said, the current set-up is a loop that takes the coolant back to the motor inlet. All old GM cars especially trucks should have a heater core shut off valve as the passenger side floor gets hot and then the car gets hot even when the heater is off. There's a cleaner way with a different single shut-off valve with a straight handle that does the same job as the factory set-up with out the extra hose and round handles. Good luck on another great project!
Nice ride right there, my brother in law had the same car he loves those. Anyway I painted it for him a nice electric blue with platinum silver on the bottom and boy was it slick people went crazy over it, nice project Lee. 😉✌

Ahh, good to see another Gbody on the Channel. An SS would be well worth it. A little more resale value than a standard version. But price is going to be tricky to determine. I Should know I am still trying to find the value of my Base Model 81' Malibu, Close I can get to an accurate price is up in the neighborhood of the original MSRP price if original and in great condition. Resto's are up $6 to 10 grand and a few that are a little more.
Buy. The SS if its in the vin is very rare. The ute is becoming more popular check mighty car mods for a subaru brat resto. See ya, have a blast. Are those brass fittings on the coolent lines?
I would paint it silver keep the tan interior but do red gold and black striping sport style ….like how the stripes are on it 👍🏻

I'm gonna do it right on the top-down to the top bottom and then black all the way down the rest of the way that when you're still keep in tune home color skin that it came with you're just changing the colors and then do the straps like you says will be pretty bad ass but different from the other one you did😅

It'll look good with the painted black instead of white and repaint the gold color on the bottom that way It'll go with the peanut butter interior and match to Gold stripe and graphics on outside.

On this 78' El Camino I would install a Chevy 5.3 LS. You might want to keep it with a 5.3. Shouldn't have no problem selling it with a 5.3
Flat black makes any car look cheap. Gloss black and gold would be amazing!

I want to hear it run... a solid color with the elco SS decal is cool... raised white letter tires if you are running the rally sports shoes. Those faucet valves in the heater hoses is steam punk cool✊🏾

Hello from the north west of england again Lee, with the ss not being insanely valuable at the moment l think you’re definitely right to exercise a bit of artistic license and put your own stamp on it.
the cowl style hood scoop is a terrific idea l think.
with the bumper chrome being shot and you having to paint the truck anyway and maybe even changing the colour scheme would you consider colour coding the bumpers perhaps ?

I like it with a charcoal grey, or something dark other than black. The interior color might not work with something dark though. Then I thought midnight blue? I guess white will work if you change the hideous gold rockers but that matches the interior. So, that's gonna require some deep thought. lol You would think with the SS package, they would've put a 350 in it. An Edelbrock duel plane intake with a 4 barrel wakes the 305 up real nice. I know because I had a Malibu with the same engine.
What did he want for the Cutlass?

Have you thought about Corvette yellow with black SS graphics? It'll look good with that tan leather interior. Plus a will help hide some of the hail damage. 😎

paint it GM Lazer Blue and Titaniam the interior should still work . im looking at a78 Cabellero the fellow says it a SS but i couldnt find anything saying they made a SS for them and a 72 Javelin both are pieces
I don't think a Caballero is an SS since it's a GMC, not Chevy.

Nice score dude. I like the olds hurst color combo. Did it come with all the ralley wheels? Or do you have a few laying around to make a compleat set if so run those on it i think it could be a fair budget project. The white will be cheap and the mayan gold aint as bad as buying red. But its your car do it however you want to.

Yep you're El Camino SS is built off of the Chevrolet Malibu platform. It should be a 305 with a 700 R4 Transmission

Actually you could get a 350 in a 78' El Camino SS. I have a numbers matching correct one with build sheet.
Not sure why that's a 2 barrel. Even if it's a 305 it should be a quadrajet. And it doesn't have SS dash cluster either

the body's not to bad but between the interior and possible engine problems, 800.00 to 1000.00 would be tops for me.
it was worth the extra because it's a real SS, buckets, console, spoiler, one owner, etc
Keep it original, professionally recover the seats and sell it for a good profit. Must be great to have the skills to buy a shit heap like that and know you are in the money!
