I had a 68 Cutlass S, 14" rally. Changed to 15" Vista Cruiser rally. Painted dull aluminum with polished trim. General white letter 70's
Doggy got it all mapped out in her brain, very intelligent wheels look smashing
Replica period model radio with USB ports and yes I think gauges look good interior mod , your dash w/ black fabric on top w/glue would give a good look 👍

You could do what I did. I just bought a cheap pot sandblaster from harbor freight, and set up a small tent to keep the mess localized, I just bought a few bags of cheap crushed glass and I blast all my old parts now. Would have worked great for those old rims.

Watching from Pittsburgh Pa this is a beautiful build and I love your vision for it. Will you be adding some Vinyl spray to your dash like camel, black for the air vents some new chrome floor pedals and black fabric and glue for the door at top would look nice too 👍

My Friend had a GM factory CB in his citation. The CB itself was I believe behind the glove box and you changed the channel on the mic. I can't remember if it had a clip for the mic on the side of the radio.

just wanted to throw this out there. On the CB radio if the radio does work do NOT key the mic without a CB antenna attached and set. If you do key it, you will most likely blow the final output transistors, you can still hear others, but they won't hear you, so you go from a 1500.00 unit to pretty much 0 dollars. My first job back in the mid 70's was installing stereos, FM equipment and CB radios a lot of CB radios for Danny's Two-Way Communications in Sharonville Ohio. Good times, good times lol hope that helps.
Definitely white with gold. Black would look good but with all that hail damage black shows it all. Plus white is more original to the car. But whatever you choose its gonna look great.

They are originals. Styledcsteel was a standard in the eightys. Trim rings should be fairly easy to find center caps are going be a pain to find. Lee, center caps grow legs real easy. Good luck with this great iconic El Camino project.

Paint the car silver with the gold on the bottom…it will look real slick
Try turning the column between the dash and the ignition.. it should turn.. there is a linkage that goes up to it from the shifter.. it’s probably disconnected.. and it’s keeping the ignition from going to the lock position cause it thinks you aren’t in park

I like those rims when they have all the trim and I'm pretty sure they come in 6 and 7 inch wide I've had a few sets of those on novas I have put together

Could also be the steering wheel lock pin inside the column cam and gear slipped past center holding the tumbler from rolling back to the off position. Hell I'd have to see it 😆 built a ton of columns for the dealership i worked at for 30 plus years from customer fkup repairs to vandalism theft to just plain wore out parts you'll figure it out 👍✌

on some gm cars they kept the gear indicator on the dash with the shifter on the floor, because of that they used both cable for the floor shifter and the linkage to the column for the indicator, so if the linkage is not hooked to column or it not adjusted right the key will not turn to the off position, try turning that part of the column behind the key switch park will be to the left, hope this helps

Good color choices. Got lucky on the paint imo. I’m in favor of keeping it white because you have several black cars already and that other El CO is black. Make this one different. Get this one’s’ drive train in good shape and you have a car ready to go on next years Power Tour already! The gold paint looks like it’s a match. Going to look sweet Lee!

My 78 Malibu Landau had buckets with floor shift like yours, The column collar turned with the shifter and sometimes kept the key from turning back. Could be your problem with the keyswitch. Mentioned it on the first vid but guess you didnt see it. Been watching from the beginning, love all the videos.

I think you're right about that gold..we're matching the old car paint w/the new wheel paint but it looks the same to me.
That's good IMHO, I like staying as least "period correct" on real SS's, Z28's, etc..or any Elite label car really.
I treat them differently.. If I can, I'll put limited or otherwise special VIN's back to how they came, but at the very least, put 'em back to a color scheme and power train they could have came with at that time.
I've noticed over the decades that cars that have been kept the same color paint and interior receive a sort of added respect from people, even if they're not personally fond of the color themselves..

Wheels look great and I would say that gold is the same as the original. If the 7" wheels show the pitting at a casual glance I would just put the 6" ers on the back too.
I think/vote black, gold lower body, gold rims and leave interior gold. Think that color combination would be killer looking and compliment each amazingly. Just my opinion anything you do will look great!! Just remember you said something about not being a big fan of white lol.

I'd about bet you got an ignition switch messed up down on the column that'll hold the tumbler from rolling if its stuck or the switch broken or loose
My friend has 3 of them in his junkyard I will go look tomorrow and see if they got any good parts

You might have a master cylinder that would work temporarily on one of those GM cars sitting around. They tend to use the same ones on several models over several years. Worth a look anyway see if any still hold fluid.
