  • Welcome to Flip It Furniture! In this video I use chalk paint to update this jewelry armoire. I show you the process I use for blending chalk paint. Then I add some transfers and a mold from Redesign with Prima. Lastly, I touch up all the embellishments with gold gilding wax.This furniture makeover has it all!

    I used to make wedding & party cakes...did it for 15 years so I have LOTS of gorgeous molds...plus, I've been painting furniture for years but they didn't have chalk paint and all I did was paint things. NOW, I am so excited seeing this incredible creations so I am resetting my home to accommodate being able to do this...maybe enough to create interest enough for a business again.

    I am the exact same with brushes. As hard as I try and wash immediately, my adhd does not always allow me to. I get distracted and forget so easily. This is beautiful. Purple is my favorite color and was looking for something to use it on. Think I’ll try my jewelry armoire.

    I bli be you have a teacher heart. I think it comes naturally to you. You explain things others don’t. Like the transfer. You said who the maker is but also where you bought it. You told us the gliding wax you put on won’t come off. I always wonder about that. I thought putting a spray of clear lacquer would be good.

    Gosh, not only are you attractive but your creative work is absolutely stunning. I love the colors. I use to be an automotive custom painter at one time for years and I use to blend multiple paint colors in a similar way but with using different spray guns. In this case if sprayed, the colors would have been applied in reverse order from main pink to dark purple outlining. Then airbrush the gold or apply with a finger as you did.
    Some of the furniture you refurbish on your videos are gorgeous. Some pieces look Victorian, America Victorian, or Cottage Style. I bet furniture restorers would be claiming sacrilegious for painting over wood...lol. As you probably know, you can get stains to produce a similar effect but with the added bonus of seeing the wood grains showing through as stains are semi transparent. Interestingly, it would be similar to how they blend colors on guitars and seeing the fire maple wood grain beneath the mirror like finish. Well anyway, that is some mighty fine work you do dear. Almost forgot to mention that I flip furniture too. Especially when my computer crashes...lol.

    • @FlipItFurniture
      @FlipItFurniture  Před 3 lety

      Thank you so much! I can’t even imagine blending with spray gun and air brush😯 you must be very talented. I do get a lot of backlash from wood restoration enthusiasts but I don’t take pieces that are in excellent condition I take pieces that are ready to be thrown away. I’ve passed on so many beautiful pieces because I just couldn’t go through with painting them. Thanks for all your kind words and thanks for watching☺️

I'm new to ur podcast, I used to refurbish furniture 30yrs ago, when it wasn't popular. I love watching ur creativity come out in ur designs and colors. U r brave for making ur own embellishments out of bondo and a mold. I never used transfer paper either, I used stencils. I would have painted the legs gold too. That was my go to for antiques, lol. The transfer was overkill. You had done a beautiful job before then. The gold and the custom color was just enough. You need to be more patient and allow for products to fully dry and cure. You will get an optimum piece in the end. Perfection takes time and patience.

    Best tutorial I've seen yet and your piece came out beautifully. Thanks for the lesson in blending because I've only seen one other blend so confidently with fantastic results, and that, is Brushed by Brandy. You're awesome. BTW.. been wanting to start looking into flipping myself. So enjoy the refurbishment and using my imagination to create. Thought I could make myself a small livable income but I just am stumped on how to find out who my customers would be. How do you ask that question? If/when I do ask, all I get is places to shop. The first thing you have to do is find out your clientele after all and I can't get past the question. Can you give me any advise... please.

      @FlipItFurniture  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you so much! Your comment means so much to me 😊
      Brushed by Brandy is the master blender lol she’s amazing!
      A great way to start selling is to post your Pieces on Facebook marketplace. I had most of my luck selling on Facebook marketplace. I have been selling on it since they made it. It’s a great avenue. Another way to sell is to make a Facebook page strictly for your furniture. If you’re not an official business it’s called a fan page. If you get family or friends to Follow your page soon enough friends of friends and people from the neighborhood will start seeing your furniture. I wish I would’ve started that sooner. You can even post your items our neighborhood groups like buy/sell/trade groups. Once your name starts getting out there people will just start following your page and you’ll get exposure. That way when someone is looking for your style of painting they will know where to find it. I am opening a booth in the painted tree market place that’s opening next month so if you do not feel comfortable selling out of your house you can always look at antique booths, shops or boutiques close to you. You will have to give them a small commission or pay rent for the space. After time selling on marketplace you will know if your stuff sells quickly. That might mean it’s worth it. So basically You just have to promote your furniture and with time your clients will come to you!
