  • A bicycle ride in the expanded Fort Street protected bike lane in Victoria, BC (June 2024). This is currently the longest protected bike lane in Victoria (3.9 kilometres) which extends across the city from Wharf Street to Foul Bay Road (municipal boundary with Oak Bay).
Highlights include a two-way protected bike lane, one-way protected bike lanes, bicycle signal lights, bike racks, a new public seating area, seven new or upgraded crosswalks, sidewalk updates, new trees, a 40 km/h speed limit, and improved neighbourhood connections.
This video is divided into three sections. In the first section we ride Eastbound in the new section of the Fort Street protected bike lane which extends from Cook Street to Foul Bay Road. This expansion added 2.7 kilometers of protected bike lane. Next we turn around and ride Westbound along the full 3.9 km of Fort Street from Foul Bay Road to Wharf Street. On the Westbound ride you can also briefly see the old streetcar rails in the new seating area between 14:00 and 15:02 mins. Then the final section of the video shows connections to access the new section of the Fort Street protected bike lane.
