MAn I love those sword slashing sound effects that are used in pretty much every japanese/chinese sword fight scenes ever made, in movies, AND games. I dont know what the HELL its supposed to sound like, cos I dont think thats how getting slashed with a katana would sound, but it just sounds good LOL. Reminds me of Tenchu and Second Samurai

There was a time when China/HK was the king of action cinema. I will take 90s China/HK action over any other country and era, but they have fallen off badly since the 2010s.

I have seen a few different versions of this in terms of dialogue. There is a few really well choreographed scenes. In English it started, "My mother brought me into this world. I swore my life to protect her. If you are truly still my brothers, then let me through in peace. Otherwise, do not blame me I will not watch my brothers die .
They dont make movies like this anymore. They rely too much on CGI nowadays and very poor scripts. We all can agree that the cinematograpy in this scene alone is remarkable without any hint of CGI.

@alkim345 Why not? They're only just a stone throw away from each other. The time period this film is set is during the Ching dynasty around the 17th century. There are ships that can travel all the way from England to China during that time so what's a short trip to Japan going to be?

The Japanese are noticable by their lack of a queue hairstyle and of course, speak Japanese to each other in the movie. Jet Li's character defeated them on the way to this clip, then blindfolded himself as he didn't want to see his (former) society comrades die by his hand.

The changdao is the Chinese copy of Japanese katana swords when some of them was taken from Japanese pirates during the mid16th century by the soldiers of Ming General Qi Jiguang. The changdao is more effective than the larger zhanmadao to take down Mongol horses. These weapons are issued to Ming soldiers defending the border from Mongol invasions.
jet li learnt from 13 different masters while jackie chan only learnt from like 1, 2 or 3. this is a movie anyways. jet li dont need weapons to fight. he can defeat them without weapons if he wanted to
@kapoof2 I do have a master, he's a 7th degree Black Belt. But the thing is that, he did it differently. He didn't do the cross knot design. But my system (school) is a traditionally and modern mix of all styles.
@SHP8 you are absolutely right, the american film industry adopted action choregraphy techniques from the Hong Kong flim industry after the influence of Bruce Lee after the 1970's. I mean look at the action sequence in american films in the prior to the seventies, they look so stupid.

this chinese folklore is awesome, this fight scene has to be one of my favourites, its really badass to see jet li go in in there with like 16 katana's blindfolded and whops everyones ass, screw realism, you want realism go watch something more western. if you want some fantasy watch this movie.

Well, historically stated, martial arts in the ancient times were rumored to have almost seemingly flying techniques (almost like ninjas) and that is the reason of the 10+ feet jumps, but in china, they call it ching gong or literally the martial art of lightness. Also the pressure point thing is real, but as far as freezing people, maybe not but it paralyze, hurts like hell, and may kill you if you hit the right pressure point. The movie may be fantasized, but not completely fake.
I watch this scene and it just makes wish I could do this in real life to the bouncers at the local club just rock up blind and start walking through people lol

this is not samurai sword fight. the chinese and japanese are different people. the swords style may be similar but they are not called samurai sword. the handle of any one sided blade with black criss cross wrapping doesn't make it samurai or ninja in that matter.
