It's notoriously well known fact in the engineering profession that the quickest way to wreck a high-tech company is to allow the money men to dictate how the company is run. It seems that in F! there may be something similar at work. Ex-Mclaren F1 engineer Marc Priestley actually rates Whitmarsh pretty highly - I'm not sure you can realistically blame Mclaren's downfall on him.
One of Mclaren's biggest losses was when Newey decided he wanted to work in a new project and then in 2007, they had spygate which apparently destroyed their relationship with Mercedes - they also prepared poorly for the then-new-for-2009 rules and so on. They obviously had ups and downs since then but eventually parting ways with their factory Mercedes engines was another big blow and they just haven't recovered since.

He made his fortune selling shares. No offence to people who earn their wage this way but he's used to getting rich quick, selling rather than owning and then throwing said money at problems until they go away.

I am not an AM fan, but this video critique is just plain lazy.
You only have to look at the challenges encountered by Mercedes this year and, indeed, by most teams. The cars are all heavier, & slower, and new technological challenges around ground-effects and car stiffness were not adequately anticipated. And, the Mercedes engine simply does not have the pace of Red Bull or Ferrari.
As for Lance Stroll, there should be no question that he has the ability to be on the podium with the right car ... and that goes for most of the drivers on the grid. Look at Hamilton's fall, look at Botas, look at Riccardo, look at Vettel, look at just about any of them. They have all won, and can win if they are behind the wheel of a strong car. Stroll drove well in Austria (has anyone said he did not?) but the car simply doesn't have it. But, that's F1; designs change and team rise & fall.

Mr. Stroll is a businessman, not a sportsman. He only wants to see his money and to have brought Aston Martin into F1. Without the right ambition.
His son is the best example, who has never had to worry about anything.

The thing is Lawrence stroll made his fortune in the fashion industry so he is not a real quote of quote businessman and CEO. A tech CEO , an automobile CEO or a financier with the same money would do a much better job.

Bosses like Stroll remind me of the boss who told me the vacuum interlock system was too complicated so he disconnected it and hit the override button … and … destroyed the experiment… but it wasn’t his fault because the protection system was “TOO COMPLICATED” 😂 what a 🤡

And imagine my frustration talking online with the trolls who hold a different opinion to those expressed in this video. Some people can’t see their own nose. AMR is doomed. Ever try to tell a billionaire how to do something? Don’t ever tell them they are wrong unless you don’t and never want to work for them.

No Lawrence Stroll has not destroyed AM; well at least for now. Lawrence Stroll has made several investments and like all investments made today ... it takes time to mature and be fruitful. They're rebuilding a larger team and they will go backwards before going forwards. Even Lawrence Stroll has said it's a 5yr plan and we're just into year 1. The only two problems I see is that AM is gaining a reputation of copying but not understanding so that is not a good brand image. Second is the Lance Stroll issue; Lawrence Stroll has anchored that team with Lance and that means they will always compromise family bonds over performance and a winning culture. Lance is a decently good driver but he's just not a championship material as he is a second driver but treated like the first driver.

Lawrence should have never been in charge. He has repeatedly stolen designs, favoured the wrong driver and look where it has gotten him. Lance should be left do deal with potential issues on his own instead of with his fathers credit cards help. This will grow him as a sportsperson, man and maybe his skill in the car too. If he was forced to improve by not having a garunteed seat maybe he could go on to be a better driver 🤷‍♀️
