- A how-to video on weaving baskets from vines you can find in the woods or fields near your home. No special tools needed. I used wisteria vines in this simple, easy to follow tutorial. This video show how to finish the basket off with strips of old cloth. #basketweaving #homesteading #bushcraft
You are adorable! Don’t critique or compare yourself to a “professional “ you are an artist and who or what make a professional anyway? You speak clearly, and show examples well! I’ll be watching. ADHD crafter here start new things all the time! 😊
Awwww, thank you! You are a kind soul and I appreciate your words. I hope you enjoy the basket weaving, it is really relaxing. Have a great day my friend ☺️
You are an incredible teacher! This is so clear. Plus, I *love* that you’re using invasive plants and used clothing!
Thank you!! I'm so happy you like it. I'm still battling the wisteria and my basket stash is growing 😆
I agree!
First time I saw any of your videos. You are amazing!
Thank you so much!!! Your comment just made my day 😊
I love the rustic look of these baskets! And they seem to be so sturdy and useful. I thought basket making would be a lot more difficult and technical, but I bet you I could make one! I would have to make all sizes and shapes! Thank you for this wonderful vid!!❤
I'm so happy you liked it!! They are soooo relaxing to make, almost like meditation. I KNOW you could make one and it would be AMAZING ❤️😊
@@hummingcatfish that's so interesting you mentioned meditation because as soon as you started weaving, I could feel my brain switching into meditation zone. I knew right then that basket making would be so relaxing👍😊
I like your channel, you are a women of many talents and fun to watch
Thank you!!! That really means a lot to me 🤗😁
This is so clear and easy to follow. I've been experimenting with both invasive vines and scrap fabrics for baskets, but not together! What a good idea. Thanks for sharing.
I'm so happy you found it useful! It sounds like we think alike with using what is on hand ☺️ Happy weaving!!
Wow!! You are such a great teacher. Thanks for sharing!!
I'm so happy you liked it and thank you for the wonderful comment!
Thankyou! Great teacher!
😊 thank you! I am so happy you liked it ❤️
LOVE your baskets!! I've done a little basketry & my dream is to use materials from the timber areas around my home just as you've done! Thank you so much!! God bless!
That sounds amazing!! There is something so peaceful about weaving. Thank you so much and many blessings upon you 🙏
Thank you Aunt Judy I have watched this several times and can’t wait to start xx
Aunt Judy is the best 😊 thank you for watching
Love the basket! If my arthritis would cooperate, I could actually make one of these with your, as always, awesome clear, step-by-step instructions! Thank you Aunt Judy, for passing on this wonderful skill, by way of your sweet niece, to us!
Ms Carol, you are a ray of sunshine 🌞. I hope your arthritis behaves (with the warmer weather, maybe it will ease up). Thank you for your beautiful responses. Everyone needs an Aunt Judy. 😊🙏
Thank you! I am making one!
✊
Happy weaving my friend!! 😊🙏
I would love to try it. Thank you for showing
I'm so happy you liked it!
Wonderful video. Lots of skill!Going to get some vines and see what happens ^_^
Thank you!! Happy weaving, you got this!!
I also love how you use the vines from your area and making good use of a discarded t-shirt. Genius!!
I'm so glad you liked that 😊 The t shirts are quicker and make softer handles 😁🙏
I was so excited when this video popped up on my notifications. Yay! Another awesome and practical tutorial. Thank you so much and keep them coming. I absolutely love each one❤
Thank you!!! I can't tell you how much it means to read comments like yours ❤ You are definitely appreciated 🙏😘
👌
Thank you my friend 🙏😊
I LOVE learning from you! So fun and informative!! Cannot wait to try this with our hardy kiwi vines! I’ll have to make sure your Aunt Judy joins me! ❤
Oooohhhh, I wish I could be there too!! I think you were 2 or 3 the summer your mom showed us basket weaving. I was really bad at it, but your mom was so patient. The summer we did egg rolls was another favorite 😋. I bet those kiwi vines would make beautiful baskets (send pics or better yet- do a video!!!) You got me wanting to grow some 🥝 Thank you for being so supportive 🙏❤️
You are a joy to watch. I just subscribed
🤗 thank you!!! You just made my morning 💚
My pleasure only telling the truth 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙏😊❤️
After the first 3 or 4 rounds my vines are breaking. They are fresh picked yesterday but still becoming brittle. I have so many loose ends now I'm thinking I should just take it apart and do it over. Part of the problem seems to be that the extra piece of wood is not staying parallel with the one on either side of it. I'm using muscadine vine. It has alot of nodes. I'm not sure whether that is causing a problem too, if the vine I'm using is too thick (most of it is about as thick as a string of licorice or a little thicker).
Hi! I just made muscadine jelly Tuesday 😋 with those vines and other woody ones, you want to soak them for a bit so the water softens the outer "bark". Hope this helps 😊
Very interesting. Do the vines have to be dried then soaked before weaving or can you use fresh cut vines?
I cut them in the colder months and let them sit a week. I think if you cut them in the summer you would let them sit longer. If they were to dry out completely then I would soak them. Hope that helps 😊
Can you weave your baskets with fresh wisteria? Or do you need to dry it first? Does it shrink if it's still green?
If they are too fresh they shrink a lot. It's so funny because just last week I was looking at the wisteria and wishing it was not so green so I could weave 😂 I usually harvest mine in the winter (after the leaves die), but I'm thinking if we cut some green and give it extra dry time, it should be good! Alright, I'm off to the wisteria patch 😁
@@hummingcatfish - Thanks for the info!! I'm teaching myself basket-weaving, and I'm finding the hardest part is knowing when/how to harvest and prepare the materials. I'm like you - I want to use materials from my own yard - especially invasives - although I have lots of apple and peach prunings too. And your tip about using velcro to hold the coils is golden!! Mwah!
Thank you!! I hope you have fun weaving 😁
I'd rather buy your baskets. :)
Thank you!! You are so sweet and your comments are always so uplifting 😊
