It really wasn't that bad. It was actually pretty good. So it's most to each their own because I believe that they'll change it up again and they'll spring right back!
I last visited a LJS in Taipei, just before going to a Behemoth concert (that was opened by an awesome local band called Chthonic). Awesome evening!!! I thought the food was fine.
LJS is/was my favorite. I make the fish at home, now.

When they were a restaurant, their food was good. When they became a fast food joint, they cut corners and their food was terrible. its that simple. I remember in the 80s and early 90s you had to stand in line to even get in a LJS. Once you were in it was about a 20-40 min wait for your food since they cooked everything fresh, but man was it SO worth it.

I went to long John's like 3 weeks ago, it was fresh and delicious. I went a few days ago and the location looks permanently closed. Such disappointment i loved long John's.

this makes me sad, i grew up on LJS and had it up until my father passed away from Tuberculosis, we had LJS about once a month and i loved the stuff, especially the Cod and Hushpuppies.
i think when they had to switch from Cod to Haddock is when things started to go downhill with them.

My local long john has been closed since years ago, I used to go there alot as a kid in the early 2000s but now its sad to see it gone.

When LJS first came out, the fish was twice as big. They would put the crunchy batter bits on the bottom which was fun to eat. Fast forward to 2020, LJ S has revamped i.e. The tartar sauce looks more oily than creamy with not much flavor. Consistency is dubbas. Sometimes it tastes fresh, other times it's greasy. If you wanted your grease fix, go to LJS

I worked at LJS, and loved it. You are so right about the crunchy batter bits on the plate. Those crunchy bits were so good when they were fresh. People use to buy them, I think a large order was like .15 cents. When I worked there they always served fresh fish, if it was past its time they would not serve it. I wish we had one, but we don’t.

I worked at a KFC/Long John's for a couple of years during college. Throughout my 8 years of total food service, it was the worst place I have ever worked. Like the managers and getting hush puppies during break was cool, but the workload, customers and all the grease made it suck.
I loved LJS! When I was pregnant the ONE in Atlanta had closed. It still sits there decaying. So sad

I had Long Jhon silvers awhile ago... Long Jhon silvers caused me to get SICK! I had diraareha and a stomach ache for days! TOO GREASY!!! NEVER GOING THERE EVER AGAIN! Used to be good but not anymore...plus the AWFUL customer service got mad at us for ordering a family meal.

as a kid i loved it. but my family all hated seafood, so having it wasn't frequent. used to have for lunch frequently in the late 90s. Not really any near me now.

I would pinpoint the beginning of Long John Silver's decline to the labelling of The Big Catch as the worst restaurant meal in the United States. The truth is that the average consumer did not care how unhealthy it was, but the health activists threatened a lawsuit, which put the chain in an impossible situation. They could satisfy the customers, which would get them sued into bankruptcy, or they could satisfy the activists and stay in business, albeit alienating their customers in the process. Well, they chose the latter. Of course, the activists don't exactly spend their money at Long John Silver's, do they?
It is a lot like the failure of Disney, actually, where a company makes products to satisfy activists who don't buy any of them.

I had a long John silver silvers near my house that was there for years. Passed by recently and they closed it down. I guess the pandemic was the final straw and they closed it down. Pretty sad. Place was there since I was a little kid.

I have never had bad chicken at LJS, or hushpuppies, or coleslaw. Their fries do not reheat well (they are great in store, but who goes through a meal for four in one seating knowing most of that is for later), but then most fast food fries don't. I absolutely love their food. I wish there was one closer to me. Oh, and when I could get two tacos, two chicken, two hushpuppies, and a personal pizza in one place it was the best. Unhealthy, yes, but done twice a year it's not going to kill you. I don't eat things that come out of the ocean, but I have a friend that loves LJS shrimp, so I do question the bad reviews there. I wish there were more of them. No, I do not work for or own stock in the LJS company, whoever they are owned by now.
I was a manager at LJS for 6 and the big catch meal was the best thing they ever served.

The food has been fine tbh, I always enjoyed the chicken and hushpuppies. My dad loved the fish and even shrimp there. I hope I can find one still since I never ate fish myself and want to give it a shot once

Seriously a leftover chicken from long John's microwaved and put in a hot dog bun with some mayo lettuce and onion makes a super delicious sandwich.

I quit going their 4 years ago....got tired of getting something made from pieces parts and then shaped like any thing but a strip of fish. They put in the huge wedges of potatoes and no matter how many complaints, would not go back to french fries. Then if you went through the drive through, or purchased to take home to eat, you got left overs refried and they were dried out. NEVER AGAIN...NOT EVEN FOR A FREE MEAL.

Haven't ate anything from Long John's since I bit into a piece of fish and found half a worm. Fish has worms, fries and hush puppies are soggy with grease. Just....YUCK!

I for one have always loved Long John Silver's fish and their chicken is really yum. I don't know if Long John Silver's bought it but I remember that the location I went to when I was younger previously had been Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips.

Hi, BabbleTop!!! Fish 'n' chips is understandably a food that is difficult to "modernize" to a healthier option without changing it to the point of being unrecognizable. The LJS that I passed every day for most of my USA life is still there!!!! (Heath, Ohio, 43056. Ohio is the place for fast food. With Wendy's, White Castle, and Tim Horton's originally based there, and then Little Caesar's and Domino's based up in Michigan, you can imagine Ohio is a hotbed of good food). I really don't have much in the way of suggestions for LJS. Maybe cooperate with UberEats or FoodPanda to get centralized take-away instead of brick-and-mortar operations. Maybe they could do the White Castle thing and get microwavable or oven-heat-up food frozen in the supermarket. White Castle succeeded at that because they don't have shareholders to please. Don't know how LJS would fare trying to do something like that.
Another angle to take, BabbleTop, might be to compare LJS with Captain D's and Arthur Treacher's Fish&Chips. Examining fish 'n' chips in The UK might be interesting, as well. Apparently it's not allowed to be called simply "fish 'n' chips" anymore because it must include the name of the fish. "Haddock 'n' chips" or whatever. Maybe you can come up with ten points for a part 2 video.

I can't speak to LJS's food value, as we don't have a franchise in my small-town area. However, in years past, I have eaten at one a couple of times in a city about an hour from me. In addition to that, we have since gotten a Captain D's. IMO, the two are indistinguishable from one another. On the rare occasion that I have to resort to CD, I always ask for extra napkins to press out the extra grease.🤢

They disappointed me today I've been waiting to go there for days to get a # 1 and ad 2 pieces of fish and finally get to go and get home to see they gave me old hard fish so I'll eat something tomorrow

For me, Long John Silver's has always been inedible and utterly disgusting.
This is absolute BS. I love their food, it definitely has flavor and it's better than Captain D's and all the other fast food fish out there in my opinion. This is one biased review, stating lies as though it's fact. Ridiculous.

This is a controversial idea: but lent doesn’t make sense to me and I was raised as a Catholic. Like u should stop eating meat on every Friday, bc think about it: there’s so many Catholics in the world, and if every single o e of them stopped eating meat on EVERY friday, then the environment would get better quicker!
