    I've been struggling to pronounce most of these words in your video series for a long time as a second English speaker :( Should have checked out your videos while I was younger!!! Now, in the 50s, I feel like my mouth is locked in place...but your videos are still very helpful. Thanks..

    Great lesson. It helps alot; however it would take tons of practices in order to get them pronounced correctly especially whale vs wheel and will vs well.

      Yes there are always differences. My recommendation is to focus on being clear to others. So, pick which pronunciation makes sense to you and that others understand.

    I pronounce the 'old' wh sound and am not willing to give it up. Fight back. I teach this sound to non-native speakers. Fight back.

      Veil is v-long a-l. Veil and whale rhyme.
      Vile is v-long i-l. Vile and while rhyme.

      Say WWWWWW----EEL then make the pause shorter and shorter. Breaking the word apart like this helps sometimes. Good luck!

    The most difficult is the difference between wheel and will. We think they are the same.

    I feel like "well" is being pronounced lately with a schwa, but I know you are not supposed to say schwa in a one syllable word since it cannot be unstressed. Maybe it's changing towards the ^ u sound...?

      I hear that too! More and more I’m just teaching short u then talking about stress as needed. Pronunciation changes keep things exciting.

    I think it's unreasonable for English to exist these too similar words, I'm biased. but a more deadly thing is that they are frequently used.

      Say WHILE then pull the tongue down and away from teeth while you let the air puff our of the mouth for the D. (WHILE ends with the L made while holding your tongue to your teeth).

      I’d say light when I just say the word. I try to over pronounce. Typically, you will hear a dark l at end of words.
