In BC Canada this is all we use for steelhead fishing I couldn’t imagine float fishing with a spinning reel😂😂
Best way to fish hands down
Go to the Vedder river in Chilliwack you'll see tonnes of anglers using spinning and casting rods for float fishing
I don’t know why anyone float fishes with a spinning reel when baitcasters exist. Same goes for centerpin. There’s no advantage over a Baitcaster, but there are some things that are worse, not sure why people do it other than to feel fancy.
wow that was great the guide getting a guide to go fish in cold beer temps with one of the hardest methods and pulling it off on camera. wonderful work as always folks
Gotta get a longer softer rod meant for the centerpin, it’ll help pick up more line on the hook sets and to play the fish when they run at you
That FJORD though 😍, glad to see a centerpin fishing video in the PNW yeeee!!!
Yeah buddy. I've been wanting to see you guys play around with other methods. How about some fixed line content? Try euro nymphing with a keiryu rod. A big trout on a 20 foot long super soft rod is a pretty fun time. Make Jordan do it. It'll be funny.
Cam, MICHIGAN! I do believe that center pinning originated in the PNW up by Bellingham and in the BC rivers.
The perks of centerpinning is that mending your line is much easier, efficient and more sensitive. Once you get really good at it, you can feel for the bites or get a better hookset on a bobber down.
Compared to a spinning reel, yes. Compared to a Baitcaster, no
@@Fairdemand554 if you feel that way then you just need to get better at Centre pinning. Here in Ontario Center pins have been a thing for almost 50 years. When the fish run at you, you don’t use the handles to turn the real you palm it. 13 foot rod and a centre pin is the most reliable hook up I have ever seen. I almost never lose fish. You just need more time with your rig. If you just commit to one season steady use of a centre pin, rig exclusively. It will solve all your issues. Just my two bits.
@@stephenpaquet It does nothing that a Baitcaster can’t do and in fact since it relies on the person to meter out drag that allows a fail point where a Baitcaster doesn’t. So actaully a pin is worse. Does nothing better, and some things worse. Setting a hook in a fish with X lbs of force would make no difference what reel it happened with.
@@Fairdemand554 I don’t to see how no drag is a fail point when the fish starts to pull you just let him slip. It’s actually faster there’s nothing to reach for you don’t need to adjust the drag it’s instantaneous just slacking off with your hand you don’t need to reach for a stupid star wheel. I can take up line just as fast with my centre pin as with my 7:1 ratio level wind. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it’s better I’m just saying it’s every bit as good and there’s a certain satisfaction and doing it right, anyways you have fun with your baster. I’m not here to argue with you. I just disagree when you say that level winders are better. I’m only trying to encourage you to try one, join the fun man. It’s not like I don’t have one and do use one in certain circumstances. For me it’s fast deep water where I use it with a slip float.
Don’t forget the Rivers you fish might be completely different than the ones I fish, I’m southwestern Ontario Canada you know the Saugeen river the Ganaraska river. Not even sure if you’ve heard of them. Anyways man tight lines. Have a great day.
Awesome bought time for low and clear centerpin is the way to go !!
You v Nick That would be a good one. better practice on that Center Pin ! Learning is half of the battle and the fun.
centerpinning is a great way to fish...and thanks to the great shout out to my home state MI! Keep up with the great videos
It’s about time. Glad to see you guys getting on the pin 🎣
There's nothing like running a center pin for fishing. I love it I fish Eastern New York
Ever think of using a Buzz Bomb bumper stop for against the swivel ?
Great idea!
That’s what I use!
the centerpin amplifies the fishing experience for float fishing and you clearly experienced it.
Yessss. Centerpin fishing!!!!!!!!
Sweet deal!
I see a CPR reel out with you
Was Jason working the addicted booth!? He looks like the stashed and mulleted bro that sold me then beads and hooks that both work well btw!
Yep!
I'd like to see some more 1 v 1s or crew verses crew videos.thanks.
Hell yea! Get ‘em 🍁🔥💨🎣🎣🎣
Takes a bite to figure it out.once you do you might never go back to spin or level wind.
Good video 😊, great 👍 info!! I seem to remember someone's comments to Kyle about a fish 8#so, kicking his butt! What goes around, comes around! 😆
Pretty sweet video, cam and steel obsession couldn't ask for much more, good looking steelies, good job guys 🤘
Sean is the man at filming you guys! Need more like him, who ever filmed the last episode with Nick and Dave had me dizzy! Lol keep up the good work guys!
Yes! Finally!!!! There's no substitute for those zero slack drifts and split second hook-sets!
You’re describing a Baitcaster
@@Fairdemand554 They are good, too :)
You were right Cam, last time you did say if "we" don't catch a steelhead, not "I". I was wrong, you were right. And you definitely got um this time. So glad we aren't losing you to smallies!
More of this please!
Also what bait do you use when pinning for steelheads?
Beads
You can basically fish any bait/presentation you would use under any suspended float!
I am from Oswego county NY where we have world class salmon fishing, huge browns(30lbs) amazing steelhead, I like to catch the biggest fish on lightest gear possible.8lbs test p-line green moss mono is heaviest during the salmon run 6lb p-line whole rest of the year .....I absolutely love what you guys do but why such heavy gear
Been waiting for this one for a long time! Awesome video!
More Steelhead centerpin videos please
Great looking fish great job and that river is beautiful.
Die hard pin heads are dying looking at that float set up. 😵💫
The ol Canadian knuckle buster!!
Did anyone else notice the bobber go past under water in the background at minute 1:56? haha probably hooked to a fish still... pretty funny. Great video guys!
About time you took out the pin, its a lot more fun for sure
woo hoo have waited so long for these LOVE CAM ON THE PIN!
Look into BER float reels you won't be dissapointed.
That is Awesome, I never cut my Bobber Stop that long. You're Amazing Mr. Black for sharing Details with us, cause we just don't know the little things that make Fishing FUN...
I'm a pinhead but you made me crack up! Thanks for the laughs!!!!!!!
Still not a center pin guy myself, but it still looks like it was a good time!
love this and can’t wait for the drop! got my timer set 🎉
Center pins are nice. , very expensive. However it doesn't make any difference in the technique of presenting the presentation of a egg pattern. It's how you feel it. I personally preference the bait caster or a really nice spin reel. I'm sure you can understand. What I have found with the Center pin. , ha. Cut a small piece of feather and wrap it into a # 4 hook , and spring Chinook will hammer it. K. Nestucca River. Hebo Oregon.
I can’t wait to see him get better at this if he follows through and builds rod and reel coordination with them hook sets. Would help with having a longer rod with mending and not having to leave a half loop ahead of the bobber and learning he can be more on top of his float than hes showing. Rock on Cameron 👍 using a raw 2 knuckle bleeder doesn’t make the game comfortable. Recommend 5 king pin or even investing in a 5 milner makes the difference and for rod a 10 to 20 lb range 8 to 14 maybe. Want to pin that water so bad
I agree your thoughts are spot on. I’ve been centre pin fishing for 50 years in Ontario. I didn’t realize it it wasn’t a thing elsewhere. Once you get good at it, the hook ups are way more reliable than any other method. He just needs to learn to palm the real on the retrieve when the fish run at you so he can keep up with them.
Centerpin is the only way to go! Best way to fight a fish. True mono on mono without any equipment in the way. Oh, and your hand is the drag. Instantly adjust your grip if more or less is needed. And a tip for better hook sets is to mend the line and get it off the water. You have way too much slack in it.
Thanx
Well Cameron thank you For putting a video out You guys have been promising one for quite a few months Then you finally did it And you even managed to Catch a couple fish And I enjoyed watching you Even though Freezing You guys manage to have fun See you soon
Atta boi
Pinning from the bank is where it is at. The drift you get is so much better than a fly rod, spinning reel , or bait caster. There is a learning curve but once you get it you are hooked. That is why I use a fly rod, spinning reel, and bait caster. 😁
The drift is literally the exact same as you would get with a Baitcaster. Are you all floating with casting reels with the brakes turned way up? What is happening?
Welcome to the club! It’s so damn fun to fight fish on centerpins. You gotta try it on some Kings!!!!!
Cameron on the pin! That was awesome, can’t wait for Cam’s channel! 🔥🎣
Let’s see cam and nick go head for head on the centerpin rods …., let’s gooooooo
💯 need that 1v1 that would be epic!!
I use an okuma raw 2 which is what I think you're using. I will upgrade hopefully next season or before.
What jacket was Jason wearing?
Try the 13,4 sst. 6-12. That rod is great.
Steeeeeeel obsession !!!! 🤙
Well Done Cam- 2 for 3!
Whats the difference between using that sliding weight with a barrel swivel vs just using an inline swivel sinker?
Nothing really, its just preference.
Loved seeing you release that steelie!
I find centerpin is more efficient once u learn to fight them with the controll you have almost tight line to the float what do u think the disadvantage of them
The FJORD 🔥😍
I just went today to Wilson river fished there for about 4 hrs once sunrise, no luck:(
what gloves do you guys have? I need some of those
It’s about time
Now you are the best among addicted crews 👍👍👍
I booked a trip with Jason for April. I can’t wait to get on some Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel…
fucking YESSSSSSS love the pin
MORE PIN VIDEOS PLZ
I just know that as soon as this video posted me and about 3000 other Midwest subscribers all broke into big grins all at the same time l
Awesome
I almost hit the damn roof I was so excited when I saw the title tothis video! I have been hoping to see you guys bring a pin to the west coast all they way back to the first time I watched Michigan Steel! Absolutely love it keep up the awesome content!
Let's see the challenge !
Drag free drifts bro!!
Details are so important ✨️
The way u cast the pin bothers me😂 but pinning is definitely where it’s @
by any chance were you at St Lous fishing ponds today?
Glad to see Cam back on ADX FSHN
🍁🔥💨
Im interested in learning pinning, cam what was your set up?
Yeah Like everyone else has said before alot of perks to the old pin. But Cameron needs to learn the Wallace cast lol
Literally zero perks over a Baitcaster. Except maybe looking fancy with the rod on your back
What does everybody lube their centerpin with? Beach sand or mud? Squeaky squeak as you real.
Lots of miles on that CPR. Def time for a new one!
This drop will be JUICY!
sorry you don't bring items back as I'm new to the channel and watching to old videos I would have liked to get the US flag hook t shirt and hoodie, but love the videos keep it up and bring back old merch 😀👍👍👍
Where did you get your reel and rod from
I only ever used a centerpin the other styles are somthing I'm learning 15 years later
Love the video but the whole rod on the shoulders is much cooler with a spey rod 😂 keep up the good work fellas!
Out of all clothes I might just have to grab the trolling shirt you need a hoodie though since we’re in the pnw I would hide it so much
Yess!! I have been waiting
Thoughts on no salmon fishing for twenty twenty three?
What lbs test is your Bead Leader?
Suckin on a bobber is better than eating sacks in the boat
Love your vids so much wish I could hook as many fish as you guys do ❤️
I have the Okuma Raw ii as well. And I paired it with a Shimano Clarus 13' Three piece Centerpin rod. Lined with ADDICTED 50 pound braid for backing. If anyone is looking to get into Centerpin fishing, I am willing to sell it. I have used it only two times. Asking only $270, I will throw in a free case for the rod. I'm in Vancouver, WA.
Now do a spey fishing episode
You need a bigger pin dog
Yo!! I need to hit you up for a new reel!
@@SteelObsessionGuideServicellc I got a few bro🤔
You can’t talk about pinning for steelhead without mentioning British Columbia!
Keep pinning
It’s about time y’all started rocking the pin! 🤟🏼
What rod and reel is Cameron using?
The reel is an Okuma Raw 2 . The rod im not sure but they are sponsored by okuma so im assuming its an Okuma pro cp rod of some kind
can we get an update on that Patagonia salmon film!
Coming out in April!
I feel like centerpin fishing would be just as rewarding as if I was to just turn my spinning reel over and reel backwards with the wrong hand.
😂😂
I'd watch that! Lol 😆
I see you have the raw reel what rod is your choice??? Isee carbon handle???
