    Fyi we had to remove Wp Reset from our larger websites. Database size explodes with snapshots and takes a long time to create. We found that the automatic backup from WP Vivid/updraft Plus was more reliable and did not slow down large websites. We see no reason to have two plugins do the same thing. This isn't to say WP Reset is bad. It is completely fine for small/testing websites. Every review has been great so long as they use it on small websites.

    WP Reset looks pretty handy, but the WP Vivid works for me. Otherwise, I'm on the same page as you. A superb overview of your stack and reasons for choosing them.
    As for my Blueprint site(s), I just monitor those via MainWP for updates and apply as needed. I use Cloudways, so when I need to spin up a new site I'm just a couple of clicks away from a clean base setup. I have a template configured via Wordfence Central that I apply as well so everything is clean and ready to use.

    Thanks Paul for sharing the tools you use to make our lives easier. Can you recommend a video on how to migrate a domain over to SiteGround without breaking the email. Although I find the SiteGround support team very helpful, I have on several occasions asked a question and been led to believe a process is very simple only to find it's quite complex and encountered issues after paying the fee. I can not risk approaching them directly with this question and being told "yes of course we can help you migrate" only to discover that they have broken the client's email set up. I am redesigning my client's entire website on a test & dev domain I use. After I migrate the domain & email over to SiteGround I will upload the new website. My main concern is my client's email setup and ensuring they don't lose any emails. Can you help guide me please.

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety

      it should help out if core files have been edited or corrupted. It will compare files, etc., and reinstate any altered files to get the site back up and running. You can also choose to disable plugins, reset the admin, etc.

      @@kristoffernygard7255 no, you can use the Emergency Recovery Script to access ANY WordPress site, regardless of whether WP Reset was/is installed or not. It is a totally standalone feature.

    Great video Paul - well done. Have you ever done a comparison of MainWP and ManageWP? I've been using ManageWP for a number years managing over 60 sites, but not a fan of GoDaddy, so thinking about alternatives.

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety +1

      Not an official comparison. I have used Manage WP and it's a good platform. I would say it really depends on the user's needs. If you prefer using a SaaS over a self-hosted option, ManageWP would be a great option.
      I like being in control of the options and if I find that something like WP Vivid wasn't doing what I wanted, I have alternative options that will integrate into MainWP.

      I used InfiniteWP for some time but found it a bit flaky with updates, especially trying to get the child plugin to update on the remote sites. I'd often end up having to do each one manually and that was a PITA.

    Hi Paul, and the community. I would appreciate any clarification the following question regarding WPvivid and WPreset. --- I have WPvivid and wonder if it would be good to have WPreset for the following scenario: Let's say a site gets highjacked and some or all files deleted from the server. Instead of re-installing WordPress and then installing WPvivid and Restoring the site from a backup, wouldn't it be better/smarter/easier just to load-up WPreset's Emergency Recovery Script, along with creating a new admin-login credentials, and then just reactivate the WPvivid plugin on the site to run the Restore process? --- Thank you in advance!

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety +1

      To be honest, WP Reset and WP Vivid Backup are 2 very different tools. WP Reset is very useful if you want to make changes to a site and need to take a snapshot of the plugins, theme and database (this is different from creating a backup). The ERS is a great tool to get corrupt, hacked or damaged WordPress installs back online, disable problematic plugins, etc.
      Personally, I use both options for different reasons and wouldn't be without them now. As you can get both on LTD and a relatively small price, I'd prefer to err on the side of caution and have both options in my toolbox should I encounter issues with a site.

    • @WPTuts
      @WPTuts  Před 4 lety +2

      WP Reset isn't a replacement for a backup tool. While it shares some features, WPR is more intended to reset various aspects of WordPress, allow you to recover damaged, hacked or corrupted installs, take snapshots of a site prior to making changes (and allow you to quickly reset those changes), quickly install and activated sets of plugins and/or themes.

    • @farahato
      @farahato Před 4 lety +2

      @@WPTuts Thanks for your reply :), sorry I dont fully get the tool yet not sure why.
      A followup question please, wouldnt a backup tool recover damaged, hacked and corrupted installs, and something like wp vivid automatically creates backups before making changes with the incremental backups.
      However, I do understand that it allows us to quickly install and activate plugins which is not in a backup plugin.
      Can you further elaborate on the recovering part. I really appreciate your time explaining this to me.

    Hello Paul. After you promoted this setup, I went straight for it. However, both the combination pCloud + WPVivid and pCloud + WPReset are creating issues for me..
    My WPVivid backups seems to be causing more and more fails over time, with plugin-update-backups failing all the time now for some of my sites. The people on both teams dont seem to be able to really help me (already went for multiple tickets, still not working properly)
    WPReset simply does not let me connect more than one site to pCloud. As their support told me:
    Unfortunately, pCloud is not allowing more than 1 access token anymore, so as soon as you connect the new website, the old token is invalidated 😕
    So I am wondering, are you still using this setup? As it seems quite unreliable to me...

      Hey Jip, that’s disappointing to hear you’re having issues.
      Yes, I still use this setup but generally fall back to Dropbox for client based backup cloud storage and pCloud for my own personal storage.
      I generally only use WPReset to handle testing sites that I’m installing different themes and plugins on.

    WP Reset saved my butt last week. I had a client site that Siteground said had malware and shut the site down. Using FTP I deleted the files Siteground said were infected. I then tried to login to the site and white screen. I hadn't installed WP Reset yet, but went to my new account and downloaded the Emergency link. Uploaded via FTP, ran the link and the site was back up!
