Great info as always, John! I bought CIR switch back in January-February of ‘20. Bought way too much and put excess in Tupperware. Probably 3 lbs. I found that container before Christmas break and decided to germ test it. Most of it sprouted! I was shocked. Good stuff!

Glad you doing these. You ever look into mudding oats? I have done this with wheat, rye, oats. Actually decent results. Basically broadcast last couple weeks of April before rain. Right before frost completely leaves. Gentlemen in his 80s told me how.

John, does your switch do well in heavier wetter soil? North central WI. It would be in plots but they do hold water at times. How about your HD screen?
Probably Bigrock. But it must be dry at planting. It can take a little wet growing from time to time .
Screen needs dry ground.

Question- would it work to just till the plot in say early June when soil temps get up to 60 or so. Then spread RC Tecumseh by hand and cultipack in? Similar to how a guy would plant brassicas? I’m assuming no spray in this scenario. Thanks,

Spray 2 times and then you may be ready to plant.
How long will the rc big rock keep if I decide to prep my land like you said for a next year planting and what/where is the best storage method?
Should keep well for a few years.
A bin inside your house (constant temperature) is what I would try for.
Planted your RC Big rock last year came in a little thin with lots of crab grass can I over seed that again this year to make thicker or should I start all over because of the crab grass?
Let it go until June timeframe and possibly a quinclorac spraying can take care of the unwanted grasses.
Can you mix varieties of switch...for example cave-in-rock mixed with Tucumseh?
You can but there really is no benefit. They are best suited for different conditions. If you have a thin stand of Cave in Rock in a sandy area, you can over seed Tecumseh.
can I frost seed by broadcasting red clover into winter rye? Trying to get a 2fer. early rye for turkey deer feed and later for red clover. Columbus Ohio area
Your frost seeding clover onto rye?
That should work fine. Mow the rye a few times in the spring / early summer and it should be fine.

The area should be sprayed and weed free the previous fall before frost seeding.
I’d weeds are persistent, mowing a time or two may be needed.
@@northwoodswhitetailsfoodpl2663 Thanks very much for the reply. The property is new to me, but the area in question was a soybean field last year and appeared weed free before the snow fell. So, after broadcasting the seed in the Spring, does the seed need to be rolled over or packed in somehow?

Last fall I put down 100% hard seed (that's what the company said) switchgrass on control soil. With the dry winter I got an early simozine and 24d when it was still freezing at night. Think I will be safe?

Depends on yearly rainfall amounts.
Some drier conditions may require the RC Tecumseh
We get about 30-40” a year but last year we went almost 10 weeks justly-August with no rain.

I get no till and that's cool ,but some can't afford that. Please consider old school guys in your vids ....
