- Here is my take on the Moondrop FreeDSP USB cable ( Type-C ).
NOTE : You HAVE to use the app to do any changes. Alsop the inline controls are on the right ear hook cable and are located near the chin when in use.

I was looking for a video to come up hehehe, thank you! I'll watch it :)y
edit: just watched it! thanks! One question sorry, how's the mic quality? is it good? I had tried moondrop quarks dsp, but the mic was really bad. do you find this one ok?
Seems ok and thanks for watching.
Thank you for the in-depth review Vortex. Looks like a decent cable but by the sound of it the implementation (software) was rushed. I guess it will evolve over time (hopefully) but every company wants to rush to market!
The software is very half baked. One thing in mitigation though, depending on your use case, you may only really need to set the EQ once, then it sticks permanently on the cable and you never have to go back into the app again. So if you have an IEM you want to fix, you can just put in the PEQ you want for it, stick the cable on the IEM, and you're done... the PEQ will then work on any other device because it's on the cable. So you only need the app for the initial EQ setting.
Another limitation- no decimal places in the PEQ gain, only integers. It's still very usable as an EQ though, still much more than a GEQ. Just if you have a very exact profile you'd need to adapt it to integer gain only.
Aye and cheers fella and I hope the software improves and gets pushed onto the App stores.
Which one do you think better for an iPhone 15 use? This cable versus with Moondrop mc2 cable + apple 3.5 to c adapter. Thanks
I have no idea about the MC2 cable. I prefer the less things in the signal chain the better.
How is the power? What iems does it drive fully? Considering it's a dongle dac alternative they should have mentioned the power like ddhifi expensive alternative does.
Power is more than enough. Drives all the IEMs I have with ease including Planar.
Hi Vortex, thanks for the review. There's a couple of things I'm wondering about:
1) How's the noise floor? I hear that Moondrop's cheap DSP models (quarks, jiu) have a little bit of hissing when the volume is turned all the way to zero but the earphones are still powered. I'm assuming that they put a more expensive chip in this 30$ cable? The 20$ Moondrop link is pretty much silent if I remember correctly.
2) How did you like the built-in DSP settings on the Lan? Is it worth buying a cable costing the same as the IEM?
Looking forward to the Nova, cheers!
Noise floor is completely absent, it's a quality DAC supporting up to 384kHz 32bit. Moondrop have AP measurements where they claim very good noise floor and distortion measurements (0.0008% THD and 120dB SNR) and I'd believe it, it sounds absolutely pristine with absolutely no noise.
The great thing about it, you can set the EQ to whatever you like. So you're not limited to using the built-in DSP on the LAN. Only real thing the LAN needs is a touch more bass I think and this can do that very well with it.
1. Noise floor is zero and the dac seems really good.
2. Seems fine but more EQ points and a touch more bass suits the Lan. Cable can be used for other IEMs as well.
How does it sound without going through the app and the eq settings?
@@eukitkuan8288 it sounds like the IEM you connect to it then, it's transparent. It does seem to be a good quality DAC.
@@blorg8206 thanks!
Any idea how it works with the Space Travel. I just bought the thing and I saw in one of the comments that it works on the new App?
Works similar to before so it allows the three different presets, user guide and control configs.
Once the EQ is configured in the DSP is maintained without having to enter the application?
The particular profile is saved on the dac / adapter.
Maybe too late to the party but, can you use it with any iems without tuning(to avoid the bull of dacs)?
If yes does it do a good job with that?
I removed the app long ago so I can't check if you can run it "filter free" but doubtful.
thanks man
No problem!
How is the output power compared to cheap cx31993 dongles?
I have not tried any CX31993 models but best guess is that it's similar.
Is the app necessary? Or would I be able to just plug it in and use it in its original state?
You can use it in it's original state. The app adds the extra functionality.
Hello, does the DSP cable save the config after I equalized the sound on android app then plug it in other devices (ios/windows)? Could you please help me test this...?
It does save it but I haven't tried onto ios
@@VortexReviews1 Many thanks, I just asked MD bout this, they said yes, it has the memory inside. So great
@@dinhtrunghieu5582 Nice one.
Does it work with any IEMs? Can this still work with any IEMs while using the app? 😢😢😢😢
Works with any 2 pin iems but the tunings are Moondrop specific models.
What will happen using them on the PC?
It still works.

Thanks for the review. Was the app available in app/play store? Red flag for me in terms of security.
It currently is not available on either store. Had to grab the apk through the code you scan.
It would also have made more sense to put a 3.5mm female plug on the end, so that you can plug in whatever cable you want or need. This way you need to use adapters for MMCX, QDC, TFZ or other connectors on the IEM end.
It supposed to be balanced so I don't think it would work but good idea though.
At that point you’d just want a Qudelix 5k or similar
@@arc-audio That's also an option.
From what i had red previously, i was under the impression it worked with any iem...🤔
It does work with any iem. The app adds the extra functionality.
Can i use this on cca cra?
Sure.
How does the cable compete with 7Hz Salnotes Zero USB C?
These cable is susceptible to interference when searching for a network, and it also has little power (no chance of using it with planar in-ear).
Any KZ 3.5 cable that comes with a 5-20$ in-ear is better, and these are of no use...
Not tried the Zero USB-C
Does this mean that it wont work with any planar iem's? I was thinking on having for my USB-C phone port with the S12.
The Moondrop Free DSP Cable has enough power for every planar I have tested with, but not the USB cable that comes with 7Hz Salnotes Zero USB Edition. It is great addition for every 2 Pin In-Ear. A DAC has more power but drains battery much faster.
Mic test please
unfortunate, that app is in pretty rough shape... maybe decent for moondrop iems, but otherwise its usefulness seems pretty limited. I'll keep my eyes out for any updates before 11/11, but otherwise I'll probably join the TJ One DSP gang then
It's fine for any other non-Moondrop IEM as you can put in your own personal PEQ. The largest limitation is it will only do integer gain, it doesn't allow decimals. But this isn't a dealbreaker, with full control over Hz and Q it's still far more control than a GEQ.
This is IMO a better cable than the One cable, if you are only looking at it for the cable. One is a decent IEM as well though.
@@blorg8206 full control over Hz? Isn't FreeDSP limited to 10khz max per band?
TJ One DSP looks a nice pick.
Sorry what's TJ One DSP? I tried googling, but I can't seem to find anything. Is there a website? I tried aliexpress, but sadly nothing.
can you tell me if is compatible for 7hz zero?
Works with all 2 pin.
This might just be my grail cable
Can be very useful for non Moondrop products as well.
@@VortexReviews1 yea and the cable actually looks durable as well
@@Unlucky1776 It does indeed.
