- The fastest mountain bike World Cup racers are FAST! But even the best pros have off days or mechanicals to put them to the back of the pack.. In this video, ex-freeride pro Blake Samson and one of our camera operators Jack take a run down one of the Châtel UCI EDR stages to see if they can keep up with the slowest pros of the day.

The speed the pros reach is just crazy. My 12 year old competed in the Fox US Open Enduro event recently riding the exact same trails as the pros. I rode with him on the practice day and then watch Jack Moir's GoPro footage from the same trails on the same day and it is simply mind-blowing how fast those guys cover ground. One stage had a really flat, pedally start and watching Jack's footage my son simply couldn't comprehend how fast Jack was travelling.
I'm a roadie, had a similar experience at a race once. Rode my bike up the final climb to get a good view. Watching the speed those guys came up it was insane.
Obviously it does seem hard but you guys mostly just made it look so damn fun! Jacks a damn natural in front of camera as well.
Great video guys, but who hatched this plan without giving Jack a full-face or any padding? Take care of your peeps GMBN, and massive respect to you Jack! Cup a tea Blake?
I was just about to ask if Jack has yet to bounce his face off a rock. Get that man a full face
I bet he chose his own helmet...
And riding so fast with this huge Viedeo backpack
Was gonna comment same thing, no fullface, no googles, no protection. Brave cameramen
The cameraman never dies !
Cameraman Jack rips too
It would be great to see more of Blake and Jack vs roadies and downhill as well. Great video!
More cameraman jack please
Brilliant film as always staring Blake but Jack well he definitely needs to be allowed to turn that camera round more
Well done Dudes
Great video guys! Of course, I want to see more of Blake and camera-man Jack vs. roadies and downhill alike.
Jack: No gloves, no protections, open helmet. Hold my beer.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
and with a backpack!
You need to pay your camera man enough to afford some gloves, pads and a full face hemet !! lol
Cameraman never dies.
What a duo, loved the video, really good couple!!! Make more videos together
Blake & Hank against DH pros up next?
Well done guys!
Great job guys, more vids like this please.
That was a great video, I'd love to see you test yourselves against the DH racers.
An XC race against the pros for something different.
What a great video some downhill would be awesome.
Great test! Would like to see more tests against pro rider times.
Damn. Makes you appreciate how much better and faster the pros are. That’s mega.
good effort guys, watching on the tv doesn't give you that real experience & speed the pro's have untill you try it out for yourself....then you appreciate just how fast they actually go, but it is their job so they can dedicate every waking moment towards their racing
Did Blake lie down next to a cow pattie at the end of his race run? 😂
YES!!!! 🤣
100%
Great video guys.
Respect to Jack, no full face helmet or even gloves. Hero!
@gmbn Fair fooks Jack, hauling that bag of kit about as well! Hats off to you bud…think you both smashed it..DH next me thinks
At 9:50 Blake. That was a close call to a REALLY bad day "in the office" :D
Great to see Jack in front of the camera too. Actually a great rider as well as a presenter on top of his camera skills. Love to see Blake teach him some gnarly downhills or natural drops. over all, great work guys!!
Loved the video. Get to compare you against pros.
Need to do this sort of video with every discipline now, Blake Vs Cameraman Jack vs the slowest of DH & XC
I'd love to see you doing this stage on XC hardtail
Surely Blake is in France to watch the RWC.
Downhill is the first thing I thought of for you two. However, seeing some speed and style would be sweet!
Props to Jack. He's got some dope tekkers!
pretty even trail because its well frequented with few tech sections. nice to have fun there. i could ride this!
Interesting vid ✌🏼❤️🍻
you know what I would love to see. Ultimate adventure bike challenge. What is better for long offroad trips in hilly terrain - hardcore hardtail that provides more fun or gravel that provides more speed? Or vice versa
I'd like to see you do the same, but on a WC XC course- you have free hospitalization, right?😃
It's just like this one, except you only get to start after your lungs have burst, you've thrown up lunch, and your eyeballs are dangling on their stems after the big climb- oh, and it's on a hardtail...now, GO!
(Did I mention there's three laps of it? 🤔😂)
Nice soundtrack (and riding!) - rock n' roll rules
Anyone else notice the cow pie by Blake’s head? Great video as always.
Oh yeah! He nearly filled the back of his helmet with that meadow muffin!
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else noticed as well. 👍
I like Jack! Bring him on more often!!!!
Jack can handle a bike, damn well done 👏
A full-face helmet would have given Jack more confidence to go faster 😉 DHI next please
no welcome back you beautiful people?
I thought I was the only one who noticed.😢
Just like the early top gear what really sells the show are the stories and the friendships between the people on the show. Which if you think about it is really all of the reasons we ordinary folk get in to and stay in mountain biking .
Would love to see you challenge tiders from all disciplins in a stage race of xc, enduro and downhill to see Who is the best rider overall
HELL NAH! I'd fken die on the first hill 😂😂😂
Blake would be cool to see you go against some DH pros!
🧐Why, DH of course...😎
the big cow pie next to blakes head laying there... hahaha lol
The reason jack isnt wearing gloves pads or a full face is because he knows the cameraman never die
haha yes more of that… super interesting 😉🤙🏻
I say this a lot but someone in the production crew has good taste in music.
I'd love to see anything y'all put on here lol
I want to see Blake, Neil, Rich and Isaac take their DJ bikes to the local BMX track and see how their fair in Open Expert.
🧐🤔 XC Marathon stage next? 😊👍🏻
Is that a big poop on the grass next to where Blake is lieing down? @9:50
DH for the win. Awesome work boys!!! I’d love to see this as a downhill test. :)
I want to see you gus on XC. 😊
More pleaaaase 😂👌🏾
How about a fixed gear tandem recumbent mountain unicycle race?
Wanna see XC & DH too 😁
I have a trail bike and I am considering getting a more enduro bike that can go in bike parks and also do a little bit of trails and enduro climbs. Would you recommend the Torque or you would recommend the 160mm travel Canyon Spectral? Thanks
Yes go up against the pro dh, xc and why not do a tour de france climb also!
GOOD JOB BLAKE
Downhill next 🥳
More!
I want to see you go up against Strava KOM/QOM riders, but on their bikes! Meaning you swap an awesome bike for their bike and you ride their bike.
I would like to see them beat my 6hrs 15 over 65 mile off road MTB ride for the British heart Foundation, London to Brighton, it has everything from DH XC and enduro stages and I did it on a hardtail
Thanks, "now we know how fast these pro's are."
Hey… camera man Jack is doing this with a backpack of camera equipment.
Do a cyclocross race!
Did he strap that Sony to his chest 😂
no full face helmet for Jack?
in 2018 when I was at my best physical fitness I beat the female regional champion once. I was few seconds faster. Not so bad
Forgive my ignorance, but how is 2,8km "endurance"?
Blake... why didn't you do it with a hardtail?
Why did nobody get Jack a full face helmet come on?! 😂
People riding without gloves gives me anxiety 😅 Also, why do you guys never wear pads? or a fullface?
Come on that's crap The poor cameraman had a 27.5 bike. You can't compare yourself to him Blake, give him the same bike and then it would be more fair
9:54 uhmmm... blake... there's something next to you 💩😂
I always had the understanding that yes, while the fastest pros are trying to watch as much go pro of the stage and pick lines etc., one of the things DH riders have always given EWS riders credit for is there ability to "sight read" terrain, without proper practice beforehand. Even EWS races are prone to taping changes. But am I wrong? And in reality are more guys able to learn memorize a whole Enduro race ahead of time?
I'd like to try enduro, but it seems soo gnarly at times. And an extra bije + all the kit...nah
Road cyclist are two times faster than me (24 vs 48 kph avg), mtb marathon riders are almost two times faster than me (13 vs 22 kph avg). So I guess enduro/downhill riders were also almost two times faster than me. ^^
SONY a7S... so SONY aSSSSSSS 🤔 intersting naming choice on SONY's part.
touch wood.....we say knock on wood here in the us of a
Can the Pros play Bike?
interesting lack of body armor aka disregard for personal safety
minimal protection = not cool. i mean really? With your range? Think of Spiderman ;-)
If you need a non CZcamsr vs hmu 😅
Is this the same "Jack the Idiot" that Rich refereed in the downhill video?
Hi
jack aint bad...just isnt pro level
First to write first
go DOWNHILL
Well done chaps.
But how often do pro's race on a track that they never rode on before?
