  • Johannesburg was a pride os South Africa with its high rise buildings and nice roads. Over the past few years Johannesburg has deteriorated at a fast rate and recently as can be seen, it is collapsing.

Angola went through a civil war for 30 years but look how Angolan cities have been improving since the end of that civil war , Angola has very good relations with it's formal colonial power and it is the country where the Portuguese emigrate more to.
Angolans do not follow the socialist narrative , they do not blame the Portuguese colonialism for their dirty streets , their crime rates and corruption level , they blame themselves and their politicians and that's why things are improving so much and so fast.
Ethiopia , Liberia , Afghanistan , Nepal and Iran are some of the 10 countries that were never colonized , Greece only became an independent nation for the first time in 1830 and Finland in 1917.

If people don't love their homeland and have no pride in it, then it looks like a garbage tip. Many people forget that the street is their extended living room. Nobody would think of shitting in their own living room, but unfortunately many do. The street is not just a part of something foreign, it's your part and therefore your responsibility, but if the majority don't see it that way, then not only the street, the city, but also the country and therefore people's minds are polluted. I don't see a golden future for South Africa. It's not just about the perspectives that you have to give people, but above all about the wrong mindset. The people there don't care about anything. South Africa will not come up. There are other African countries that have better prospects. Rwanda, for example. People who love their homeland, who are proud of their homeland, will take care of their homeland.

To be fair, this is only the inner city. I'm not going to deny how bad it is, but there are many well kept, beautiful areas that are adjacent to the inner city, like Sandton (which is an inner city in itself), Randburg, Fourways, Bedfordview etc. I believe with the right leaders, Johannesburg can turn around, like how some of our ministers in this coalition government are turning around their respective departments.
