I took two months off from CZcams for a lot of reasons, which early on led to me learning that our channel is screwed in the CZcams algorithm. This is because of the variety of games I've played, our dead subs, and some other smaller reasons. This led to the break being longer than I originall wanted.
My position in the Pokemon community has changed. The Pokemon community was my friends, which aren't really all that close anymore, which makes uploading Pokemon way less appealing, which leads to worse content.
I talk for a very long time about the Nappy situation. I left a couple things out, but I told him a long time ago that if he came back, I'd have to address the situation. So between his return, and information I shared with someone getting spread around, this talk was inevitable.
I've been doing other things! DnD Presents, which is currently on hold with the state of the world, and as soon as I have an update, you'll see it on twitter! I'm on another song on Nate's newest album, so CHECK THAT OUT IN THE DESCRIPTION. I have a new TFT channel where I upload Teamfight Tactics 3-4 times a week, so check that out if it interest you!

I'm sure this will get lost in the thousands of comments but Shady I've always viewed you as a role model from my years on CZcams and still do to this day. Meeting you at PAX was a pleasure and hopefully one day can cross paths again and be able to chat a little more. I relate to so much that you've spoken over the past several years. I know you aren't as connected to the Pokemon Community anymore, but from someone who is, so many people still look up to you whether or not you upload or feel disconnected. Obviously your family is your priority and I respect that so much. One day I'd love to be able to talk more and gain even knowledge from someone who I've looked up to and relate too. Even gain father advice as my wife and I haven't crossed that path yet but she seems more prepared than me 😂 Regardless of what the future holds, I wish you nothing but the best and just wanted to remind you on the positive impact you made on even the current Pokemon community!
Total side note, I live in country side of Georgia and there's a reason I always try to convince Vinny to move out of Long Island lol. It's beautiful down here, MUCH CHEAPER as I've visited up there a few times, and just a amazing place to grow a family. It's so funny hearing you talk about moving to somewhere like North Carolina because that's why I have told so many people to live around this area. Good luck in your future decisions on living with your family! I know leaving your family in NY can't be easy!

Sad, because what I thought I was doing in that moment sharing that information about you in my video(s) regarding the situation was the right thing cause juss like you everybody involved in the group has been borderline harassed about the same things you have and I just wanted it to end. After seeing this video I understand that is WASN'T my place until you or anybody else wanted to speak on it and that's your right to speak your side of the story of a BIG narrative that people continue to spin. I see thru that tho, i hurt a longtime friend, a brother of mine and I apologize. THOUGH, it hurts to know that the reason why there wasn't a push towards your wedding was because everybody felt like we all grew apart when I really juss wanted to go, I think me and nexus dead ass were really trying to get everybody to go LMAO. You were in the calls for my reaction to your engagement & even ya 2 kids, that shit made shed tears I'll never commonly feel in this life and I thank you endlessly for. I remember you saying about 2 years when you started slowing down, “if you’re not growing, you’re dying” I remember finding you in 2014 and being a freshman, and watching your videos through hs excited for every new soul link, and always checking in during college. Now im a loan officer at a bank for auto loans, done with college, and this video reminded me of playing Pokemmo in hs and playing with my group of online friends that i spent thousands of hours and competitive pokemong got me into competitive csgo in college, and got super close to playing on a team in seattle for mt dew league, but I instead moved on and focused on school and i still have a few of those friends on fb and I am extremely close to them. Thank you for getting me into the competitive pokemon scene and honestly completely making a mark in my life, the impact you have on the future content creators and people of this world is alot bigger than you think :), because I was in a not so great place when i found this channel and competitive Pokémon and online pokemon

The wisest piece of wisdom I have ever heard is that broken trust is like a shattered glass. You can gather all the pieces and glue it back together, it may even hold water again, but it'll never be the same glass. There was no right or wrong in your situation and we as the audience still don't know a lot, but if you left your line open to a friend in need, regardless of what happened, until you could move on and decide a verdict for yourself, you're already setting a great example for others. @@devonleavitt1771 chemically its impossible to re-blow broken glass. once its formed, if you break glass you cant re-blow it because there is no adhesive that is stronger than its corrosion resistance.

I know this video was posted a few weeks ago but I felt the need to share after watching it (I know people will prolly not read it because of length lol). First of all, Shady, thank you for sharing in an open and vulnerable way with us. I can imagine that took some courage knowing it would possibly alienate people away from you and your content. Obviously, I don’t know you nor do you know me but I have been watching your content for some years now. Thanks for always moving and acting with a certain amount of poise and tact that is rare not only online but in life in general.
I appreciate everything you had to say about the relationship with your friend. People will always jump to conclusions and pass judgment even when they don’t know the full story. You chose to stay professional even when people were making accusations about you and the situation despite how little they actually knew. When in reality, the fact that you were one of the only people to not post and try and make money off of the situation as it was happening, should speak volumes. I saw a lot of poke tubers who weren’t even directly associated rehash the same points without adding anything to the conversation as a means to just get clicks and views and it saddened me. Thank you for your professionalism in a community that is amazing but often feels filled and plagued by petty drama.
As someone who has followed you online, I am happy to hear about the new developments and revelations you are having with life. Again, I don’t know you but I wish you the best in your endeavors. You never know who is watching, paying attention, or how your words will affect someone so I felt the need to just say thank you and say what you do, doesn’t go unnoticed.

Shady, I've been watching you on CZcams for 7 years. Around the time that my wife and I got back into Pokemon and I started looking up Poketubers on CZcams. We ended up finding this guy that had a magnificent beard and awesome hair and pretty the best personality I've ever seen on this platform, next to Chuggaconroy. You inspired me to get back into game and into the competitive aspect of the game along with inspiring me to jump on the platform myself. So I can say this completely and wholeheartedly...you are my favorite CZcamsr. Your integrity has always been something that I can you haven't faltered on and I know that during that time with Nappy was like a knife being stabbed in your heart due to your friendship and seeing how it affect those within your circle. I've seen it happen in mine as well. Thank you for your authenticity on the matter when it comes to your chapter in the story, it does bring clarity in some aspects because of the betrayal that the community felt from Nappy doing what he did. I also understand keeping those lines of communication open because I have done the same, because I truly want to believe that people will seek and aim to better themselves and get help.

Hey Shady. I’ve been subscribed to you since I was in high school (going to graduate college this year). Your videos have always made my day a little bit brighter. It’s incredible how open you’ve always been with your audience. I’ve kinda seen your family grow from these 20 minute CZcams videos. Your 100k special sticks with me, got to see you propose, get married, have your first child, and now a second. I’m sorry you’ve had such a difficult time. I’m sure it was a more mentally challenging time for you than words can express. I guess the whole reason for this long long post is to say thank you. I’ll start by saying, I don’t really comment on CZcams a whole lot, but I feel the need to comment this. I’ve been here for 5 years. When I started watching I was 16 and in high school, now I’m 21 and almost done with college. So many things have come and gone in my life since then, but I always came back to your channel no matter what was going on. Currently a proud supporter on Patreon and really enjoying your Three Houses playthrough, and look forward to more in the future. No matter where this channel goes or what you decide, you have my support.

I been around since the early days way back when you used to ask us if your FaceCam placement was okay haha. I just love how genuine you are as a person with your reactions, and how you just act as a person with your overall vibe, It was the reason I was drawn to your content.
I know you might say that I don't have to, but I want to say that I'm sorry because around the time smash 3ds and oras came out I would just scroll passed your videos, contributing toward your dead sub count and it doesn't feel right that this is the video that made me remember what I initially liked about you and the fact that I just started moving passed your videos as seemingly easily as I did aside from the soul link series. But I wish you the best with whatever you decide to do, I believe that you'll make the best decisions for yourself and your family.

It’s incredible to hear about everything you’ve been up to and what your plans are for the future. To hear you share your perspective on certain topics and clarifying information that lifted a weight of both your shoulders and your viewers was a bold move and you chose your words wisely. The internet can be brutal and to see how far you have made it staying true to yourself displays a rare Internet personality that your viewers are grateful of being able to consume.
It’s wonderful to know that you’ve got yourself a happy and healthy family. No doubt you’ve earned it through years of love and care. I am at the age where people are expecting me and my partner to go get married and have children in the next few years and its daunting but you’re a fine example of how you can still have various passions and take care of a family at the same time without losing who you are and instead evolving with the family.
Unfortunately I slowly and surely stopped watching your videos due to the fact that time moves on and if you don’t move with it, or at least keep up with it, it will leave you behind. I came upon several points in my life where i had to decide where i wanted to pour my time and passion into and it meant i had to practice a discipline that involved me stopping the consumption of many forms of entertainment and diverting to other forms with more value as i do agree with points you had made in this video but let it be known i do, now and then, view a highlight reel or watch a ShadyPenguinn video fading from my memory just to bring it back.
It’s amazing to hear how you have been involved with a DnD community. Over the last three years i dove into the hobby as well, now DMing up to five sessions a week (whilst weaving between studying music in university, which brings me to say I’m thrilled hear of your activity in music too). Everyday I’m involved with the hobby i am astounded at how it teaches how strong the skill of storytelling is. I am excited to see more of you in DnD community on the internet or even just knowing that youve involved yourself with such a wholesome hobby. Ive watched Anna and Nate on Dice Camera Action and would love to what characters you would bring to the table.

I am unsure when I started watching but always loved your energy and commentary. I enjoyed the soul link and the chemistry was amazing but I understand that things happen that can change literally everything. I also wanted to say that another on screen chemistry was you and the infamous Mr.Talent himself during the rivalockes and the pokemon stadium vs's. He always seemed to bring out your competitive side. (Not to say you are not competitive solo but the banter felt more relaxed) Also reminded me of when I played with my friends. I am glad to hear that your family is doing amazing and you were able to clear off the pressure off your chest as I was worried about you when I first heard about the "incident". I hope you will continue to enjoy what you are doing because that above all else is what is truly important. Also to where you talked about moving, I used to live in New York and moved to North Carolina and as much as I don't like how everything is so far apart, the people are much much friendlier then where I used to live. Not saying that everyone in New York is mean but people will actually wave and say "Hey How are you doing?" when you walk down the street and make eye contact while in New York 9 out 10 times they give you a "Who the hell are you?" Look. Also not a lot of people honk horns down here either so it is mostly very quiet and relaxing. Subbed years ago for the Pokemon content, stayed to see you, didnt quite enjoyed the content, but solely based on covered games, I still enjoy seeing you, and so this video was recommended for me too.
You seem happy, with a handful of projects, and its nice to see. Maybe more so than your actual way of seeing things, I like HOW you present your ideas, and the ethics around it. Sometimes I agree and sometimes I dont, but it never feels forced or presented as the single truth. You are true to you, and not only does it shows, but its also a great way to share with people. And you are great at this, sharing. And some times, the best thing you can share is silence. Since I slowly stopped watching you, I never heard about the incident, Im also one of those strictly-on-youtube people, but I am really happy to ear about your new projects. Aside from Pokemon, I was a big League player. My friends were all playing League, so I totally get the friendship matters part of the video. Pokemon was always a game I played alone, even growing up, so I was super happy when first landed on your channel. Since then, I drifted apart from CZcams content, but I still play the game as I used to, alone, and it feels right in a way. I just said it, but Ill say it again, Im really glad to have found you at that time. Also, to go back to your projects to come, as a big League fan, Im excited for the new content for TFT and LoR. I relate to that pain on such a deep level. Friend ditched me for drugs who I knew for 10+ years, other friend just ghosted me and all my other friends.
Drugs destroy people and would say changes what a person use to be if they don't get help . I would say this is a little different because this is something nappy is and despite their friendship it a part of him he wasn't going share so you thought you knew him but you never really do know someone at end of day. I imagine but not to the same extent it like being a wife of rapist or something extreme , a side of them they never showed to their wife etc

At that point you have to not let it hurt you in that way anymore which I get the impression you have. I think anything like that can help you learn something and hopefully you can use that to help someone else in need. That how I try use any pain I've experienced
Honestly, Nappy was the one who kept me interested in pokemon for the longest time, Shady, I have loved your content and Nappy got me into it with the soullinks. After I heard the first bit of news on day 1 of the "reveal" of Nappy, I waited for an explanation video from him and you. His was disappointing, and after seeing the person, the entertainer I thought I loved to watch, I realized the same thing you did, the person I admired so much was a figment of my imagination. He never really existed. People see what they want to see. Hear what they want to hear.
Now that you've finally released a full explanation, I gotta say that I am happy you decided to. It makes me happy to know I haven't made the wrong decision, deciding not to support Nappy, and justify his actions in one way or another. I am just a kid after all, it was more like a 50/50 chance that either side was lying.

When I first learned about this I was not prepared for what I saw, reading up on everything since then, this really hit me hard and heavy. I'm glad you gave your response and after seeing Nexus's video too, as a fan, I feel personally responsible for enabling certain behaviour on streams, I learned a completely different side of everyone involved in the events last year and I just want to wish you all the best. Proud to say I followed you for YEARS and I am so excited to see what great things you'll do next, let's beat the algorithm.

I watched you and so many of the other “poketubers” growing up and after years and years it’s nice to see some consistency. You have been who you are since I started watching you 5-6 years ago, and I see you and hear you today as the same respectable, kind, and inspiring man I did back then. I was never one to buy merch but I remember the one thing I did get was one of your shirts years ago. It’s easy to see now why I was so drawn to you! I can’t express my condolences for this whole situation in any good way and I know I’m just another person out of thousands who have watched you over the years, but keep your head up and stay strong man. You’ve got a kind heart and that just seems so hard to come by these days. I completely agree with that. I started watching Shady back in 2016 because my friend suggested him to me and I absolutely fell in love with him and the content that he made. I may not watch him as much now, but he introduced me to many other youtubers (specifically Joey) who I've been watching as of recently. I love how ambitious Shady is to try new things and all the honesty he has in these kinds of videos. All of the shadylockes, lets plays, fire emblem, duel links and other things. Also love seeing you wear the NF hat just at random times cause I love NF too. You're such a genuine person and try to be super honest not only with your friends but also with your viewers because you know that honesty with your community is the way to go. I always loved your vids because you wouldn't put out content that you didn't enjoy. You wanted to put out the content that you enjoyed because you knew that your viewers would enjoy the videos. Thank you so much for your content and after this I kinda wanna get back into watching your videos because I forgot how much I love this community.

Shady, long time fan here and I have always liked your honestly with the CZcams community. You have been always up front and honest with every single one of us. I does make me sad that you won't be doing Pokemon anymore because your videos got me back into Pokemon but I completely understand where you are coming from. The whole Nappy situation, destroyed me personally and I stopped watching CZcams for a while because of that (sorry for being a dead sub). To watch you grow as a person, CZcamsr, and a family man, has brought me joy throughout the years and I truly appreciate and respect where you at in life and your life choices! I hope the best for you and your family and hope you keep thriving in life! Not gonna lie, I avoided watching this video when it first came out. But I finally got around to watching it. Shady, thank you for always being so genuine and true to yourself. Thanks for always keeping it real. Although I stopped investing in Pokemon and, in general, many YTubers from the past, I will never lose respect for you. Seeing your family grow and seeing you strive to find clarity and purpose in the new chapters of your life makes me so excited for you!! You’ve been such a light to so sooo many of us and still continue to be. I’m so emotional writing this because I think for a long time, I tried to suppress the pain of what happened with Nappy. Even as a fan/viewer, it just tore my heart. I watched Nappy for almost 1/3 of my life and it truly felt like I was grieving the loss of a loved one. And then for someone who actually interacted with Nappy IRL and considered him as one of your best friends, I see the way Nappy was really hurt you and made scars. BUT I’m glad you were/ade able to find some type of healing. For anyone reading this and has found it difficult to fully move on or let go of the past, it’s okay. You’re not alone. :/ so many fond memories from the past... When I got that first notification that Nappy came bacj uploaded a new video, I was dumbfounded. I felt so unresolved, conflicted, confused, and resentful. I felt guilty that I wasn't able to unsubscribe because of lingering feelings of attachment and I just had so much hope that Nappy would "change" and address everything. I hoped that thinga could go back to "normal", whatever that meant. For me, I realized we out grow people (along with realizing that who we saw on camera was not truly how that person was). When he came back and didn't address anything, I felt what Shady felt (that Nappy was probaboy not receiving help). Ultimately, we need to be around people that are willing to grow and taking steps towards growth. It's okay to move on. It sucks and it hurts but it'll be okay. //

Super late comment, but here we go. I started watching you since ORAS. I remember the night before watching one of your videos I saw NateWantsToBattle do some online battles, and I got super interested. I looked up how to kick off some team buildings, and I saw your team building for Mega Sceptile and subbed ever since then. I have seen a lot of your videos and overall, I moved away from CZcams a few months ago and didn't really watch anything besides some specific content from specific creators. I can't stress how much your content has helped with stress and some not so happy moments. Glad you are where you are right now, and I can see how much I myself have changed through your content as well. The ending of the video got me emotional, but even if I didn't watch your content on CZcams, I went to Twitch from time to time and always followed on Twitter. I have to say that a big reason why I stopped watching your content was that in some shape or form, you helped me broaden my gaming horizons and I was able to explore other games besides just Pokemon, and for that, I thank you a lot. Been watching for almost 6 years now and I’ll always support you no matter what. If you tried a new a game, I tried a new game. I’ve been watching your content for a long time since the XY days, and I’ve always thought of you as one of the most high-energy, yet down to earth content creators on CZcams, and would always tune in to what you were doing, even if it wasn’t a game I was very interested in, because watching you in your element was the entertainment in of itself. I feel you laying out what you’ve been dealing with here for us in such a professional and well thought manner really solidifies the fact that you have your heart in the right place. I honestly can’t say the same for the rest of the Pokemon community; I don’t think I’ve seen anybody in there as real as you. I wrote a lot here without realizing, it was sort of a mind dump as well, so forgive me if I seem a little scatterbrained, but I feel that this is an appropriate place to voice myself, from a sub/previously close member to a couple people involved in this.
First, I'm glad to see you back. Instantly I got a chuckle and a smile at seeing the old hair again (which looks nice btw) and to answer the question about content, I think the last thing I saw was at least several months ago when you had started FE:3H. I wanted to catch up, but with myself being in college now, it was difficult to find time in between studies and volunteering to watch, though I loved it when I could. Hearing about your patreon, when this pandemic thing finally begins to diminish, I'm definitely going to be looking to try to make that investment. Everything positive at the start really boosted my mood and I was really happy to hear that.
But now for the negative part, which isn't directed at you at all, it's more of just me voicing myself.
I've been a part of this community for... I'd say at least 5 years, maybe more. And during this time, I had integrated myself into the community quite well I'd say. I made a lot of friends, was really active on discord servers and whatnot, getting to even meet some of the people whose content I had watched and loved, and everything was going great. It was about... I believe 2016 when I had first started picking up on stuff. Inflections in speech, the pathings away from certain topics, and being the positive and active member I was, I got curious. So I started asking around, and eventually, new information had came into my radar. And... well like the Penguinn above, I wanted to take the time to develop my own thoughts and understand it all for myself. Things began to click soon after, as my suspicions and the evidence suddenly began to line up as history began to slowly repeat itself. At that time... it was probably 2017 nearly 2018? I slowly and slowly distanced myself away from everything after realizing what had happened, but I was afraid to speak out. I wasn't sure how this would effect everything, and as a viewer, I didn't want a lot of content that I watched to go away, which was selfish on my part, but I was young (compared to now at least) and I didn't know any better. For the next several months, I stayed away from everything. Videos on the occasion, sure, but no discord, tore myself away from my friends (even if they were on my side as well), and just distanced myself altogether. I had completely forgotten about it until late night on March 31st, 2019. I was about to go to sleep, and then I was told to check twitter by some of my other friends. And that's when this all happened. The info finally came out, videos were being made, positions were being taken, and I breathed a sigh of relief after I didn't entirely feel the need to stand back anymore. I reached out to my old friends again, trying to make sure everyone was okay, but it seemed like they were all happy as well as they could breathe a sigh of relief. Of course, it didn't entirely sit well with me, I still was in awe about how everything was changing, and didn't even know what to say. It was like all of the feelings I had experienced had came back, and it was... well scary to say the least. But bringing it to a slightly more positive light, I got over it. I didn't let it effect me for too long, and I started supporting people in the community again, and everything was resolved, at least on my end, nicely.
So now, in the present day, I watched this video, and the amount of times I felt myself smile, and feel a breath of fresh air about the situation (Ironic considering I'm sorta locked indoors atm) it felt great. It feels great to see that the person whom I noticed early on in my visit to the pokemon community, the person who always had put a smile on my face with his content, was able to get through the dark times, and make the tough decisions that I also did something similar to, and both of us were still able to come out with a smile and not let it effect our bottom line. I know that the severity of it all wasn't as heavy on my end as it might have been for Shady, so I'm not trying to compare our situations at all, heavens no. But I'm just glad that the Top Tier Penguin is doing great, and I'm always happy to show my appreciation on a video.

I’m super late so I definitely don’t expect much from this comment but I just wanted to take some time here to thank you Shady. I know a lot of people do these sappy posts and stuff on every video, but this video is a bit different and it inspired me to open up a little more than usual.
First, I have been around for a LONG time on the shady channels and have been watching a lot of the content, even past the Pokémon stuff you did. You truly got me into another level of Pokémon even though you definitely weren’t trying to do, as you mention, due to the more entertaining nature of your videos. I was never very good at competitive Pokémon before finding your channel and I saw you trying and grinding and it helped me continue to grind to the point that I am at now. I currently spend a lot of time in the competitive VGC scene, and I did take a break for TCG from 2018 to recently (I would do anything to see some shady Pokémon tcg content, but I COMPLETELY understand why that probably won’t happen) and I have to say I was sad to hear that you didn’t like the newest games. But that’s completely alright. I just wanted to tell you how much you actually made a real difference in my confidence and willingness to branch out and I hope you will see this and know that there IS value in what you do as an entertainer. I understand the complex you are going through as I think in most professional avenues these sorts of thoughts to happen. I have been heavily involved with music for many years (about as many as you have been on youtube) and my music was on an amazing track in 2015-7, but over the last couple years it has seen a downturn. I cannot say I have peaked as an artist but I think my exposure might have and I hate to admit it but it’s truly something to use as motivation from here on out. On top of that, I think you are in a good place with your channels and I think that sometimes things like this happen to give us perspective. I’m so glad to hear your thoughts on all of this as it resonates with me in such a cool way.
Second, at risk of writing WAY too much, I completely understand and support the way you handled everything. I can’t say enough about how your respectable your perspective on this is. It really speaks to your principles and maturity. I hope you can come away from everything knowing what a positive example and impact you have and will continue to have. You set an amazing example for kids and even adults (lol) and I think you should be so proud to be able to share this sort of level headed maturity with your children.

You are legitimately one of the nicest guys on CZcams. The fact that you were willing to give nappy a chance to redeem himself when others would have immediately ceased contact with him says volumes about your character. We need more people like you in the world.
I personally think he doesn't deserve a second chance as someone who's dealt with harassment from people in the gay community to the point where i had 1 guy I used to play counter strike with track me down and find me in person knowing im a straight guy and I cut contact and he still went to that extent is an incredibly TERRIFYING thing.
i starting watching your content way back then red&blue soullink first came out. i dropped out of the community a few years back cause i lost interest in pokemon after a while.
this morning, i remembered those soullinks and how much fun they were to watch and i just wanted to rewatch those episodes. but hearing you and sacred speak on this subject shook me. i was sad and heartbroken and a bunch of other mixed feelings on the subject.
but when you said that your friend is gone, i think that really nailed down how i feel on the subject. the man i respected for his content turned out to be someone i wanted nothing to do with. yes, i will miss the soullinks and those great memories of those times, but the man who was part of those memories is gone.
but i was only a silent subscriber. for you, who knew him and called him a friend? i'm sorry. this sucks.

On the Nappy situation:
I honestly admire you so much for keeping this so relatively down-low. His situation was, is, incredibly deep and personal and, outside of making people aware of the absolute garbage he was pulling, does not belong in a space like this and I am incredibly, incredibly impressed with how you have managed it. In addition you didn't immediately go full on cancel and actually went about checking things yourself, which js doubley impressive. I know you probably don't want to hear anymore about this now or really ever again, but I just wanted to let you know that I believe you did your absolute best.
On the sub thing:
I was subbed a while back during peak Duel Links. I was interested in both it and Pokemon, but as time has passed I've lost interest in these things and most everything Nintendo or mobile related, which means I probably won't be resubscribing. I do however wish you the best!
shady a bit of advice for when you start playing zero:
- at the start you will be given 22 packs after the tutorial
- open these immediately
- if you dont get atleast 6 RRR cards then delete your user data and open the packs again
- this is called rerolling for cards
- once you have atleast 6 RRR, the game will be very enjoyable in all aspects

And I think you got me into competitive pokemon because before I just did post games and waited for the next game. I loved and still love seeing your videos. I dont know a better place to put this, so be warned, this is gonna super personal but I dont know a better way to tell Shady all this so.......here it goooooooes.
In December 2014, I had a major life change. I went from being a young wife, mother, and college student to a homeless combat vet over the span of a flight. I was blind sided with divorce papers after a very rough marriage, after being set on a solo trip to see my mom who was living with her boyfriend (who at this time was a stranger to me.)
I thought I was staying for 2 weeks, and fly home to my husband and 18 month old baby by Christmas. 10pm, I land in my town and my mom and best friend (BFF) meet me there. That's when they tell me I am not going home. I no could no longer see my son, and all of my belongings are gone. I literally had the clothes on my back, and whatever was in my suitcase. I was living on my mom's boyfriend's couch (who again is a literal stranger to me at this point) I went on a bender. A really really bad bender. The first 3 months of 2015 are still a mystery to me and I am very lucky to not have died from alcohol poisoning, self-harm, or back-alley beat down.
But the important bit is your soul link videos are the only thing I remember. BFF was my rock through all this and we would hang out once a week to just get me out and keep me sane, and introduced me your soul link videos. And I thought it was pretty cool, so when I learned you guys did a series of it, I binged. Every time you finished a soullink, I would go back to the very first red/blue episode and watch them all again. When you guys announced a new soul link was coming up, I would rewatch all the soul link videos again. If i ever had CZcams on there was a 95% chance i was playing one of your soul link videos.
For 4 years straight, you two were consistently playing most if not all the time I was on youtube. It was to the point where I would use soul link as a lullaby. There was only one other thing that I could play forever; sleep so soundly, and that thing got me through my time in Afghanistan.
Your voices became a huge part of my rehabilitation. I got job at the time working for a great company (I am now retired), moved into an apartment with my BFF (we now living in our own homes), reesrablished connection with my now 7 year old (we Skype regularly and I am visiting as often as I can), have had a stable healthy rationship with my current Significant Other.
You and what's his face got me through one of the darkest times in my life and when all that shit when down I was absolutely devastated. You both had become some intertwined in my daily routine that I just broke down and wept. I remember me and BFF being completely blindsided by the accusations, and then the evidence... we both just broke all contact for a while. So it's very difficult for me personally to watch your videos because of that association. But I support you on Patreon, lurk in your twitch streams, and follow your twitter, so I dont feel too bad for not watching.
Over all just.....thank you man. For being who you are. For being who I needed at the time, and for being just an incredible human being in general. I love seeing updates about your family, and want nothing more than to see you happy and succeeding. Thank you.

I started watching your channel back when X and Y first came out, your Wifi Battles were my favourite videos to watch back then and your content got me so excited about the games that I bought a 3DS just so I could play like you, you meant that much to me. While it is true I haven't been watching many of your videos on this channel for some time now, I will always support you in whatever way I can.
I wouldn't be who I am without you, you have honestly changed my life and I can't say that about many content creators I watch, thank you.

I watched the whole thing through and if im honest i wish it was longer, you have said in the past that some of your fans favorite videos are your update videos and i think i might be one of them. Just something about hearing thoughts coming from a smart and down to earth guy mixed with having so much compassion for others but wanting to follow your own passions says a lot. You also didnt follow the crowd when everyone abandoned nappy and that says a lot too. Im a young adult now but hopefully i can grow to be someone as passionate as you. Ive been around since you lived at your parents with 2 videos coming my way, the shady lady on your bed and a full jug of water from your job with Claudia and IceIceBaby crushing it in the Road to Ranked series. When I first started REALLY getting into competitive Pokemon, is when I found your channel back in 2013. I would literally spend my days off watching your videos. You have such a solid gift for content creation and ultimately what makes it anazing is your drive, passion, and personality! Your vulnerability by letting us into your personal life is so sick!
I think you handled the Nappy situation as well as you could have. You kept the lines of communication open and pretty much what I gathered from this video is the ball is in his court. Thank you for speaking out on this and letting us know what’s going through your head. This really did bring some closure to it. I hope that maybe in the future we’ll see something happen🤷🏻♂️ but I won’t hold my breath.

I've always loved Pokemon. And back in 2014 I was 15 years old. Struggling with home life and stress of school. I went looking for something fun to enjoy where i can just watch someone play some of my favourite games.
That was your channel. The first video I watched was your fire red shadylocke. I had a gba emulator and leaf green and I said to my partner "you don't have to like Pokemon, but you have to do this with me" and since discovering your channel not only does he like Pokemon we both find enjoyment playing our own shadylockes and rival Lockes.
I'm so sorry what you've been through with this situation and the continuous CZcams situation. Your videos still appear on my suggestions and I'm so grateful for it.

Shady, I too have funded my own game. I had a volunteer team of 13 plus and I was solo commissioning my art team. To say it burns a whole in your finances is an understatement. And what's worse is you go, "I have sunk all this money into this thing, do I just stop now?" It's hard brother. I say, take advantage of the systems we have in place. I hope to see it on Kickstarter because I highly recommend that for solo funded projects. Any bit helps.
I probably was considered a dead sub for a long time, man. But I never once unsubscribed. Hell, I still wear my sick Gyrados/Shenron shirt that you and Sacred made for your DBZ FireRed rom hack. It's like one of three non-plain shirts I own. And to see you get married, have kids, and the sheer amount of research you have put into your existence gave me such hope for you and your future. I haven't seen your videos in a while. I'm still blown back by all that happened last year and I can't blame you for all that happened. It hurts because I was so invested in the friendship and comraderie and that's the crux of it. It was real in some parts, but what Nappy had done to manipulate everyone was and still is inexcusable.
I'm glad you have kept being you and have kept your commitments to those who look up to you and consider you a friend.
You are literally everything I aspire to be. I’m 19 years old and working towards almost everything that you are (aside from content creation). Watching your videos helped me immensely growing up, and revisiting your channel now and watching this video is both nostalgic and inspiring. I’m so proud of everything you’ve accomplished, I’ve been there since back in your bedroom at your parents house. Also, the beard is looking good as ever. I can’t wait to see more from you regarding game dev, as I’m currently working in web development. It would so cool to learn something new from someone I always looked up to. Shady; I'm sorry to hear that the "Nappy" situation affected you and everyone involved. Everyone's lives and plans getting messed up over a situation like that is heartbreaking to all. I'm glad to hear that you were there for Nappy. Yes, wishing for him to get help without saying it is selfish; but with what you are aware of, that's the best you can hope for. The only other thing you could hope for is that it's not true, but possibly hasn't got "the receipts"; like how ProJared had a similar situation months later after Nappy's situation, and made a hell of a comeback which re-iterated what you said here: "you don't have the whole story; it's not your business". I just wished Nappy could've made a comeback as well, but he's just...drifting back, and he seems the same as he was in his videos prior, albeit slightly subdued; either due to the effects of the situation lingering, or due to being rusty on not making content for a while. He actually mentioned the situation and his absence (very loosely) during his first Sword livestream which is uploaded to CZcams, but nothing of substance. At least the chat and most comments are positive? People don't seem so quick to judge people on situations like this after the "ProJared" situation which happened a couple months after Nappy's situation.
I will miss the soul-links as you said you would; but I'm glad that you have kept your half of those videos up, so we can remember the good times and relive those hype and best moments. I think you are the only one that hasn't affected both yours and Nappy's previous projects. I'm sad they won't return, but at least you have explained why. I recall Nappy also mentioned soul-links not returning in his livestream before starting Sword, so he is aware. I'm sorry you lost a friend, we've all lost a content creator & I hope he returns. I might check out his latest nuzlocke, see how I feel, as I've stuck around not only for hope, but to watch the content I've enjoyed in the past (like ProJared).
I don't know the whole story, none of us seem to. I don't make judgements of my favourite content creators' personal life; it's not my business. I just watch for the content, the personality, editing, video creation and humor. For an example: Tear of Grace seems quite raunchy due to his humor; but I laugh at the jokes, the editing and his personality. I don't know how he is in his personal life, it's not my business unless it becomes so.
I can mostly tell how people are, and when Nappy announces at the start of every project that he "is loud and boisterous" he seems to be that; loud and basey, full of energy and doesn't hold back with swearing; but was a tad much. But I didn't mind; it was hype, and you were the perfect foil for soul-links; again full of energy, your range of emotions complimented and fueled his own loudness which raised the hype, and it made for some amazing moments. The banter dynamic was top-tier which always had me laughing! I'm probably not helping here saying positives about the past, but I think you get what I mean. I see you as an honest real man who wants to have a good time. I saw Nappy as a hyperactive dude who also wants to have a good time. And despite what he has or hasn't done; I think that's why he has returned, he misses that. You do too. We all do; otherwise we all wouldn't be so devastated, hurt, angry and/or upset about the whole thing.
I'm sorry your development plans where halted due to the "situation" the whole world is in right now; I just got a full-time job with no job to actually do! Screwed up my plans in my personal life (sharing it, extremely minor but relatable). Congrats on the 2nd child, saw the posts on Twitter! I do miss those LPs you did on ShadyGaming, like the Kingdom Hearts playthroughs and hoped for KH2, and I'm sorry Pokemon now hurts to play in general (and especially on this channel) due to the reception of Gen 8 and the "Nappy" situation. At least we know he is still there and creating videos again. But when you mentioned about "closing the book" as in "the end of this channel" that made me a bit sad. I can see why, but it's a hard thing for both content creator and viewer to experience. Unless you end it with a bang, like as you mentioned "reacting to your first video on the channel"; it comes full-circle, poetic.
People will be mad, there's always a few; but keep the communication channels open. Let him reach to you, and talk things out; he's bound to see this if you didn't notify him prior. The person we knew is in there somewhere...I'd like to hope.

Hey shady, I'm an old sub, since almost the start even. Just want to let you know that you're awesome and even though I had kinda gown out of your content years ago I always thought it was nice to see you on social media and know that you were still around. When it came to pokemon I was always more of a competitive battler so any let's play content I watched was pretty much just for you as a person. Now what's funny is that I grew out of pokemon (I still do competitive a bit though) for LoL mainly which has branched out to TFT and LoR, leading back to you, its just one of those 'its a small world' feelings.
Anyway this video did show up in my recommended a few days ago and I didn't get around to watching it and now showed up I'm there again which obviously I did watch it this time lmao.

Hey man, from one human to another (I am not a bot), this is a very brave video. I’m sure you’ve moved past this but this isn’t the kind of video you see from many content creators. Down the road I’d like to make content myself to fight against grieving/suicide and you better believe what happened to Etika hit me hard particularly because I lost someone to that as well. I’ve looked at other content creators (and with this quarantine and other things going on) I’ve taken many notes on where to start. That being said a few such as yourself have given me an inspiration in pursuing this. Hey shady. I'm one of those people that hasn't seen a lot of you since FEH, but I wanted to comment you anyway.
I've been watching your stuff since the leaf green shadylocke. I have so many fond memories of watching your stuff, the heartbreak and triumph that went with it. And then... UCL happened.
You playing UCL, and also wifi battles was such a huge influence for me getting into competitive pokemon. UCL seemed so much fun, and I wished one day that maybe I'd be able to play draft. A few years later and yesterday I was in the finals in a league with some of the greatest and most friendly players I have ever played with, and am also good friends with people in the UU community.
I've always appreciated how honest of a person you are. And you really showed that perfectly here. You said exactly what happened with Nappy, what you were comfortable with sharing, why you stuck around and why you left. I didn't even watch this video for the Nappy situation, but I'm glad I did. Nappy may not of been who you thought he was, but you are what I thought you were.
You have been such an inspiration and role model in my life. Even though I can't pretend like I watch you a lot anymore, especially now that I don't have the time I once did, I will never forget you and this channel. So many memories of your playthroughs and battles will always stay with me. So from the bottom of my heart, thankyou for being the person that truly introduced me to one of my greatest hobbies, and being and awesome guy. Keep it Shady.

Hey Shady realy hope you see this. Ive been with you since the congrats on 1100 sylveon and tbh i never commented or anything altho i enjoyed the content. In the past few years i became entirely a dead sub and I wont promise thatll change. I didnt even know youd been gone a while. But I have never seen you so bothered and visibly distraught by anything so I figured Id change my habits and comment on this one. The Nappy stuff was horrible on us all and to this day is accompanied by betrayal and pain, but knowing you didnt just leave him to die alone like so many others did really makes me happy. Even if you couldnt help him in the end. Youre definitely a model human being and I wish you and everyone in your family all the very best.
