  • Hi, everyone! In this video, we're halibut fishing at the Geeses which is near the south end of Kodiak Island. The fishing was good, we had a few throwbacks but also a lot of keepers.

I lived in Nome Alaska for 10 years as a Pilot...then I went on to fly cargo jumbo jets worldwide. Retired in Florida now. I had a great job and a great life...and I saw the world...even flown around our world. Retired in Florida.

I grew up on Kodiak in 67 when my dad opened the airport up for Western Airlines,at 5,western pulled out 1 year later and dad was airplane mech and pilot and we always had a plane or 2,then 70-75 parents were houseparents at kodiak baptist mission, moved away but after sitka, ketchikan juneau we moved back.I fished everything including bering sea for king crab. 2 tours USCG in Kodiak also .

Alaska in the 60's must have been a whole different world than it is now. Just like Cocoa Beach was different when I moved here in 1966 - just a different world.....

OMG!! Ya'll woke me up for sure this morning. I'm just sitting here , sun's coming up, enjoying a cup of coffee before my busy day starts, Enjoying the beautiful Alaskan scenery and my favorite fishermen do doing an awesome job. Slowly waking up while watching over the side listening to the Mohammed Ali of Halibut slap you guys around up there somewhere behind the camera..lol..then the bit where you catch the tangled twins and I thought, Hey that's cool. Not the tangle but the 2 at a time :) ... Then comes the big Mama, well thank goodness for that beautiful rail you made is all I can say!!! When that big fish got the idea to back up and take Matt with it...well yep I'm wide awake now!!! So glad the only thing that went back over was your gaff! Great Job Guys!! Say hi to Anita and Tristen for me. Hope you are all doing well❤

Just as long as you have nice fresh bait. We've found that past a certain point bigger bait doesn't do much but use more bait, and rack up the bait bill. If the fish are there they'll bite the nice fresh stuff before other critters get on it.
