Wow. It saddens me that she didn't get to live her life. She effortlessly sang. Effortlessly! She looked very stunning in this video. She passed before I was born.
Bravo Cass Elliot love it she was quite a singer as well as an actress -- it is too bad she didn't do Broadway -- show tunes would have been right up her alley!

She auditioned for the Miss Marmelstein role in the Broadway musical I Can Get it For You Wholesale. She lost out to Barbra Streisand which began Streisand’s unparalleled career.
I love this song for many reasons. It has very interesting use of words and it's beautifully sung by Cass, but what really does it is the fact that it's so personalised to Cass' situation. It's a shame she didn't get to live to see a time when the "mama" was dropped by society when referring to her.😊
except "mama" was never "dropped by society" because to this day peeps still refer to her as Mama Cass ! It's that ingrained. But I always refer to her as Cass Elliot! Where's the Cass Elliot Bway musical?

Cass Elliot was such a trail blazer and inspiration for accepting ones individual self worth. She was like Here I am and I might not be what's considered a regular sort of woman, person or whatever, but I am a person with feelings and talent and I won't let anyone hold me back or make me feel less than. That is why people Loved Cass Elliot and always will. She was a extraordinary person and left her mark on the world, brief as it was. Love her and her beautiful spirit Forever!!

I have been trying to get my hands on a copy of Don't Call me Mama for YEARS. At one point, here in the US, the DVD was a gift you could get by pledging to a PBS station somewhere, but once that pledge drive was over, you could no longer get it. Does ANYONE have the whole special???
