    I'm so glad you mentioned the consequences and that we might not even know everything the body fat tissue does in the body. I remembered that it is responsible for the production of leptin, which makes you feel saturated. And a lot of hormons are produced there as well. This is the reason for the risk of losing your period when you are too skinny. I think this procedure can be useful in medical terms but it seems to me that it is too common nowadays. In general, people undergo certain procedures without informing themselves about the risk. So big thanks to you guys for making these videos!

      Elective medical procedures (as are almost all medical procedures) are something everyone should investigate and deliberate thoroughly. There's always a con to every pro, but for some it can be worthwhile exchange.
      Still, a proper diet and exercise routine is definitely the best place to start!

    • @malidawgz5690

      exactly my concern too. Fewer fat cells, less leptin production. Leptin tells the brain when you are "full," or satisfied. Fewer fats cells, less leptin secreted into the blood, harder it is to feel satiated. Seems contradictory if you have weight issues but you are making it harder for yourself to stop eating by reducing the presence of the hormone that makes your brain think you are full. Did the MD who is performing this procedure miss this endocrinology class in med school or is just looking to profit from a person's insecurities?

    I spoke to a plastic surgeon while working as a student for my master esthetician license, and he said about 80% of people who have lipo gain the weight back within a year. The reason why is because people don't change their eating habits lol. Kinda a bummer to spend so much on such an invasive procedure for most patients to just gain it all back.

    • @Dandelion_flight
      @Dandelion_flight Před rokem +36

      But lipo is not just about losing weight. It is about removing the unsightly bulging fats to contour the body. Weight loss is just a 'bonus'. I find it very contradictory. Because the host says once the adipose tissue is removed they dont really come back. It is the remaining fat cells that grow bigger if poor diet and lack of exercise. So when you say people gain the weight back, does this mean their contoured body went out of shape again?

    • @christymurphy373
      @christymurphy373 Před rokem +4

      @strawberrymoonphased Před rokem

      Yeh, I think for me, it's the fat distribution in my body I am unhappy with. Silly adipose tissue decided to settle in areas I don't like. I'm actually a great weight for my size now after going to the gym I lost 15kg of weight/fat and then gained some kilos of muscle, but the fat is still visible and folds over just below the bra line and I hate it T.T Like, couldn't the adipose tissue go somewhere more inconspicuous? But I guess that's just how my body was formed. *shrug* Wonder if it's worth sculpting that area? - though the risks worry me + what we don't know.

The key point here (and really my only complaint about the pannectomy, which in general was a major life-improvement operation) is that the plastic surgeon did not warn me about the possibility of a seroma. As a result, when it broke open and started draining rather a lot of fluid, I spent a night in Emergency because I did not know what it was.

I'm a double amputee (elective amputation due to severe edema with untreatable ulcers, and that drastic surgery I have NO regrets doing) and still have some edema in my belly. I had liposuction done in July 2018. Worst thing I ever did! The doctor took out 4L of fat from my thighs and stomach, I had to stay in the hospital overnight. When I came to, I was in the GREATEST AGONY of my life. I cannot describe the sheer pain! I seriously wanted to die! After about 8 hours, the horrendous pain subsided but I could hardly do anything for two days. Sheer hell! Well, after all the compression bands, massages, and walking (no strenuous exercise for a month), not only had I not lost weight, MY MEASUREMENTS HAD INCREASED 😱😱! I put on almost 5cms around my thighs and about 3cms around my waist! I couldn’t believe it!
    Before lipo, I had been a very active size 6-7. Then came menopause, and despite working out three times a week, the weight piled on until I was a size 10. I thought lipo would help, that’s the reason I got it. Well after lipo, I went up to a size 12. And in 2020, at size 14, I decided to take the bull by the horns and go on a very strict diet, modified after 30 days, and do Body Combat and weight lifting 5-6 times a week!
    I am really pleased to say that I am now down to a wonderful size 5-6. Why oh why did I undergo that awful procedure? It didn’t help me and left me paying off a US$7,000 over four years! Never again!

    I've long been interested in getting lipo, although I doubt I'd be able to afford it anytime soon, or even in a long time from now. But it's nonetheless one of my many life goals, which draws me towards videos like this one. I'm happy with my weight, ie I don't really care about my weight and it's not far off from the healthy bmi range for my height. Also, being a bit overweight helps giving some actually nice looking volume to my upper body, which tends to be very thin/bony when I'm at a normal weight, because my body just struggles to store weight evenly, and I kinda don't wanna be bony. So I might just be one of few people in today's fast food and fat shaming society who's not struggling with their weight.
    What I'm unhappy with is the proportions of my body, regardless of what weight I've been at. And I've been underweight, at healthy weight, as well as overweight at different times in my life these past ten or so years, so I know what my body looks like at different weights. The only reason I got myself to underweight in the past was because I wanted to get rid of fat in my thigh/hip area, but I got so disappointed. Because losing weight instead just made all of me smaller overall, with my hips still protruding as much as ever, just on a smaller scale, which wasn't what I wanted, nor did I like that any better than having the exact same issue but on a bigger scale. So I gained the weight back, because mission failed.
    So I learned that my thighs and hips remain disproportionately bigger than the rest of me, and that it can't be fixed with weight loss, because you can't target fat loss to specific areas. No matter what the beauty gurus say. They are wrong. Weight loss happens to the entire body if it happens at all, not just the one or two areas you want slimmer, and it won't change your proportions, unless you reach extremely unhealthy underweight or obesity. At those points, at the extremes of each end of the scale, yes, the body proportions will start to change, in the sense that you'd either be a shapeless blob or just skin and bones, but... kinda not worth it to actually aim for either of that.
    I feel like that's what lipo is for, in regards to aesthetic changes: to target fat loss in specific areas only when you are fine with your size in general, for removing stubborn fat that stick out of the shape or filling in dents, or a combination of both. But then if the person is technically under-, over- or healthy weight I feel is less important, as long as they are healthy enough to safely undergo surgery, and happy with their weight. I understand that surgeons have a bmi limit for patients due to health risks.
    And why I have that body shape? Literally just genetics, and hormones. Because I was born female (but transitioned to be more like a man) I went through female puberty in my teens (before I started my gender transition as an adult) which had some permanent effects on my body, which I'm not at all happy with. My mother and grandmother both have this "bottom heavy" pear shape, so naturally I got my body shape from them. It's a common body shape for women and nothing medically wrong with it, I just want to have a more masculine body shape, anything that is more common for men. I'd rather look more like my dad, uncles, grandfathers, etc, when they were my age.
    The testosterone I take has masculinized my body shape somewhat, but after several years on it I've learned that a considerable amount of that fat is simply too stubborn for the testosterone to make it budge. It's not giving me that boxy shape with a beer belly that I realistically would have had by now, at this weight, if I had been born male, but instead gave me a smoothed out pear shape with a wider waist, but still clearly bottom heavy. Kinda like a cone. Which is better, as I like the wider waist, but not quite what I was hoping for in the hip/thigh department.
    Working out to build muscle can improve my proportions by adding bigger muscle to my upper body and lower legs, but that is not a long-lasting, sustainable result. I'm going to be old and gray someday, and not always gonna able to keep up an intense workout schedule to look like gymrat, and I don't wanna be stuck chased by that feeling that if I'd ever stop working out, I'd go straight back to cone shape. Which is why I don't consider muscle building to be a real solution either. It would only at best hide the problem.
    I ramble a lot, but with that said, I feel like lipo is basically the only way I can achieve the results that I want, and have wanted for my entire life, but... it's not cheap. I actually wish it was possible for me to just diet and exercise my way to my goal. Because that would be safer, cheaper and something I could just do myself. I like being in control of my body and how I alter it. For that, it kinda annoys me when people say they want lipo as a quick fix to weight loss.

    Liposuction laser
    Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture suction, lipectomy, or lipo, is a type of cosmetic surgery that breaks up and “sucks” fat from the body. It is often used on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves, and back.

    I had lipo done 4 years ago. So happy with the results. Looking to get alittle sculpting done soon. The one long term issue is on one side I itch. Just along my right waist area. It doesnt happen all the time but it is most definitely a result. Odd. Also, I love Noom. They have helped me change habits and thoughts that were instilled in me all my life. Go Noon! Lipo is not for everyone, so research before you consider it.

    I had liposuction back in 2013 from my waist, love handles and flanks, I did it awake with just lidocaine and it was performed by a Physician assistant here in San Diego. As the years went by I didn't change my eating habits and eventually gained weight, it almost all went to my breast, which they ended up huge! I already had large breast, but by the time it was 2021, I had breast reduction done, covered 100% by my insurance and done with a double board certified plastic surgeon in an outpatient hospital, since then I've lost almost 20 pounds, I don't consume a lot of food, intermittent fasting, also apple cider vinegar 2x a day, I might go and get a little bit more done in the same area, because when you're awake, the Physician is only allowed to take out a certain amount when you use lidocaine. Under general Anesthesia they can be much more aggressive and remove up to 90% of the fat, so in closing if you are considering liposuction, make sure you're calorie intact and lifestyle is relatively healthy, because fat cells in other areas increase within a year, but if you're extra careful you'll be fine. I would definitely do it all over again!
