Hello my Beautiful People! Welcome back to the studio! Last week I did a giant 36x36 canvas, with a really fun Herringbone technique. I love working with the bigger canvases and decided to play with another one tonight. Tonight's canvas is a little different, its a huge 36x48 but it is not gallery wrapped. What that means is that it is only 5/8ths of an inch thick, instead of 1.5 inches thick. The additional bracing and support of the thicker frames make a huge difference, to the point where I really don't like using these thin ones. Since they are so flexible they tend to twist and warp when tilting them, and can sometime do that wonderful mystery move, the "potato chip".

I am writing this a few days after I poured it, and I am still unhappy with this canvas. It is drying on my table, on top of some Dixie cups but I can see it bowing. It does not look to be pooling in the middle while its drying, but it is really stressing me out. I keep going and checking on it. Do yourselves a favor and dont use these thin canvases if you will be tilting them or for something bigger than an 20x20.. not worth the hassle!
One more note: I did not use enough paint on the two pours in this piece. I used 2 sixteen ounce cups, for a total of 32 ounces, when I should have poured 62 ounces on there. I did use a lot of flow extender but the lack of poured cups on there showed at the end of the video when I sped up the tilting process. Ultimately I like the pour but it would have not had those big V shaped dips if I had poured more paint initially. To figure out about how much paint you need multiply Length of your canvas by the width.. then divide by 28. For this pour it should have been 36 X 48= 1728. 1728 divided by 28 is 61,71 ounces, Take your time and dont rush! It costs you time and effort that can be avoided by going slow and doing it right.
I was aware I wasnt using a lot of paint, but I was very worried about the paint pooling in the middle of a canvas that may or may not bow. In this case because my paint was stretched super thin it did not pool.
I hope you enjoyed this pour, I did. It was a lot of work but in the end I am happy with the results. I still will probably not pour on these canvases again, it was not worth the stress just to save a few dollars. Buy the big gallery wrapped canvases on sale and stock up!
Thanks for hanging out with us today! Have a wonderful weekend!

Wow I love them both! The colors are beautiful. I love the colors in the puddle pour, and of course you can't go wrong with turquoise and brown. Super beautiful. ❤❤
Such a beautiful & gorgeous painting Mina. Love the color combination. The Turquoise Phalo Blue with the Van Dyke Brown is definitely a wonderful combination. Awesome how the blue had so much area to open up in and just shine. It has that luminosity that shimmers up thru the layers. The painting you showed from last week Golden Fire, dried so lovely and soft. There is such a delicate blending of the colors. It's crazy silky and luscious looking. . Reminds me of melting carmel candy. Haha looks 😋 yummy. And it's always such a treat when you paint big canvases.
Fantastic!!!❤😊 Thanks

That is stunning!! I honestly thought that was way too little paint for a canvas that size! But you sure know what you're doing. I have always loved browns with blues and the turquoise looks beautiful, can't wait to see it dry!! That golden fire dried beautifully, I really love it!! ❤

It sure takes a lot of strength and patience to work one of these canvases. I won’t lie but I really thought it was garbage, and a great finishing line.
