On the first chorus, it’s Jimin (the 3rd one from the left) who’s singing the high harmonies, it’s his natural voice on the second chorus, it’s Jin (3rd one from the right) singing them :) If you want to know more about their vocals, you should check them out 🥰

That high harmony is 100% Jimin (third from left). All four of the vocalists can hit those notes, but Jimin is known for his ability to sing up high. V, second from the left is a natural baritone. Jin, third from the right, is 100% singing the high harmony live as well. They REALLY are just THAT GOOD.

yes army, we already saw you, you can sit down ... BTS has great songs, they dance amazing, they are really very good guys with good feelings, but vocally they are not impressive at all, their most recent songs sound extremely repetitive, commercial, and full of autotune, and it shows when watching them sing live, they sound completely different than their studio versions, there are many more artists than otherwise, they do have vocal talent, such as Mariah Carey, the weekend, Whitney Houston, Ariana Grande, etc. and yes, you can bother what you want, but want it or not, this is not an opinion, it is a fact, and it is reality, whether you like it or not, period. And no, # 1s do not represent talent, they only represent popularity, something that they will obviously have with an obsessive and toxic fandom that, even if it is small, plays their songs millions of times, because they believe that a # 1 matters a lot, and in the world of the industry, it is not like that, nothing works like that.

    @molls6439 Před 3 lety +53

Hi Georgina, I just want to respectfully explain some things :D
At 4 minutes, it was indeed Jimin (the guy on the left) singing the higher harmony but as you aren't very familiar with them, it's an easy mistake to make with how high he can go and how effortless he can make it look. If you listen to any of their other songs or clips etc. you'll hear it genuinely is just his tone of voice which may be why he doesn't 'look' like he's singing high. The two high harmonies are also different with Jimin and Jin singing them but again since they're singing in such high registers maybe that's why it sounds the same. I can assure you though, the high harmonies are definitely them and not the track. (You can see an example of Jimin's high register in the live performance of 'let me know')
I don't blame you for your assumptions/views as obviously you aren't very familiar with them or their tones etc. and so to a new person, their high ranges (especially Jimin's) can sound autotuned/a backing track, and I'm sorry if people are getting angry but I'll try to explain why that could be (although it doesn't excuse hate). We can be a defensive fanbase since people have used the excuse of 'backing tracks' or 'autotune' before to discredit them and their singing (It's only been in the last few years they've really gotten the recognition they deserve as they used to be quite heavily mistreated in their early days since they weren't from one of the big companies), so some of us can get a bit defensive and protective. However, with that being said, in the future I would like to see you do more reactions to their live singing to get to know them a bit more and familiarise yourself with them and their capabilities before immediately going with the idea that it 'must be a backing track'.

    • @aiden9754
      @aiden9754 Před 2 lety +1

But there's nothing wrong with using a backing track. Some people/armys are acting like a backing track means that they can't sing. She’s a vocal coach, she may not know the members directly but she knows how to interpret vocals. Everyone uses autotune on studio, and bts is no excuse. Bts know how to sing without all the layers, but sometimes they may add it in performances. And there's nothing wrong with that 😊i dont think they used it here though. It was really clear as she said

The problem here was that you went to affirm that they weren't singing the high notes, if you hadn't been so firm in that, maybe your speech would not have sounded so rude. No, it was not a good or kind analysis. Sometimes it is preferable not to do analysis having a prejudiced "chip" in mind.

Thank you for your reaction to BTS!
Sorry that this will be a long comment. Just wanted to share my thoughts which I'm sure some people will agree/disagree afterall, this is a comment section.
I think that most people who are not familiar with BTS will have pre-conceived mindsets that this boyband won't have good singers, that's why you or anyone would said "I'm pleasantly surprised by this performance".
Due to Covid-19, this performance was recorded in South Korea, they really sang Live unless BBC or whoever had done some post productions before broadcasting which would be out of their control. In fact, the mixing engineer had done a great job as everyone especially their band GHOST all sounded so clear, sharp and good.
For your info, Jin, Jimin, Taehyung, Jungkook can really sing high if you were to listen to some BTS or their solo songs.
I also noticed most (not all) reactors such as vocal coaches, musicians, music producers of BTS tends to watch out if they use auto-tuned, backing vocal tracks and lip synced. If they found out that auto-tuned and backing tracks were used then they were very pleased with themselves as though it was a "crime" caught red-handed. But these reactors won't specifically look out or outwardly commented on their Western or Other singers/musicians using these tools too when they reacted to them. At times, I find this mindset (not all) can be due to prejudice, discrimination, ignorant or no research done on BTS music and their history.
In my opinion, nowadays most singers use these tools to help with their Live performances, album recordings, etc.
    > Auto-tune - BTS used it as a stylistic choice to enhance their songs especially for Pop music. They hardly use auto-tune to correct their pitches coz they can sing quite well. Unless a bit were used for a few members who are not good with English pronounciation in their only 3 English songs, afterall, English is not their native language.
    > Backing vocal tracks - BTS used them during their concerts but they sang Live over the tracks. They also danced hard, complicated choreography while singing live. Their concerts lasted about 3 hours with setlist of 25 songs. I'm sure some other famous singers would also use backing tracks when they performed live during concerts in stadiums, arenas and even TV broadcasts.
    > Lip sync - BTS are not good with lip syncing and they usually don't. They're not afraid to prove it by stopping to sing midway and there was silent or a very soft backing track playing behind. When they were doing some complicated dance moves in the middle of a song, they would stop singing and let the backing tracks played for awhile and resumed their singing again. There is nothing wrong with this and all their fans know about it except for some people who are happy to have caught them red-handed and being disrespectful about it.

When im looking for reactions from fans, voice coaches, producers, etc., I always like to skip your videos. You sound so confident in your opinions as if the artist isn't that talented. If you are going to react to an artist, you should at least know their vocal training or technique, it is not that difficult and less so if you are a vocal coach. You don't give an objective reaction or opinion. No hate, is just my opinion as a viewer.

Yes, they filmed it in South Korea because of covid. Jimin and Jin did the high parts and in my opinion I think they were definitely singing live. If you are a BTS fan you can definitely tell the difference between Jimin and Jin's voices even in their high pitch. And I didn't hear any extra vocals during Suga's rap part. Also keep in mind only 1 member (RM- the one who started the song) speaks english fluently. But their english is constantly improving though.
From Left to Right here are the names of the members of BTS (they all have solo songs too and the 3 rappers have their own solo mixtapes)
RM (real name Namjoon) rapper and group leader age 26
V (real name Taehyung) vocalist age 25
Jimin (real name Jimin) vocalist age 25
Jungkook (real name Jungkook) vocalist age 23
Jin (real name Seokjin) vocalist age 28
Suga (real name Yoongi) rapper age 28
J-Hope (real name Hoseok) rapper age 27
Also they did change some of the lyrics. Here are the rap verses Suga and J-Hope did in Korean
    Suga 's verse
We're now used to our routines taken away but still can't give up living on
We're more worn out because we don't know where this ends
We're an island we made ourselves because we couldn't trust each other
Hope an end comes for this tiring pandemic virus
Negative thoughts can sometimes be a minus
I knew it wasn't the end so I couldn't say bye
When that day comes we'll say "hi" like nothing happened
    J-hope's verse
I hate this world. our traces became memories
I just empty my mind, trust without conditions
Fill it every day with just loneliness not like the longing that encircles me
We miss you, baby, whenever it may be, here's hoping we meet again, I promise
Thanks for reacting. I thought BTS did a beautiful job.

These boys can’t lip sync to save their lives. Rest assured every high note is really performed live. They also sing live throughout their 3hour concerts. And you have yet to see a REAL performance with them dancing and jumping around. The only time you see them singing with their face is when they emote or hamming it up. The person you thought was doing the high harmony was Jimin, and yes he did some of the high harmonies throughout. Jin also did the harmonies that sounded like the same voice to you. I'm sure someone else has commented the same, but when you are more familiar with their voices it's easier to pick out who's doing what, and once you know their voices you can tell that the first harmonies are Jimin (high- just left of centre) and V (low - to Jimins left), followed by Jin (high- just right of centre) and Jungkook (low- centre) at the start.
They did a cover of Fix You by Coldplay that was lovely as well, and they did a similar thing with pairing members for harmonies throughout.
New fans will tend to react to their English language releases first, which are quite pop-y, but it's a great idea to see to their non-English tracks too (with CC on) as they are more varied in style, everything from soulful ballad sounds, to hip hop, rap, pop... pick your genre really.

Hi! I know you don´t really know the group and each member´s voices so maybe that´s why you don´t think the high notes are live, but i think if you start listening to more of their stuff you´d realize they are actually incredible singers. The ones doing the highs in this performances (and normally it´s them) are Jimin (the third guy from left to right) and Jin (the fifth guy). They can do really high notes specially jimin, his voice is naturally high so it´s easy for him to sing in those notes. Hopefully you´ll see more of their stuff in the future so you get to know them and their voices a little more. Hope this helps :)

bts use backtracks when they need them because they often do straining performances however when they use backtracks they never pretend it is live by lip syncing as you are implying, so usually if it looks like they are singing it (if their mouths are moving) then it is live. this is uncommon with western artists which might be why you mistook it. also, the harmonies are not identical to someone who knows their voices, the first was distinctly Jimin and the second was distinctly Jin. /nm

Jimin is the one singing the high parts most of the time. His natural voice is very high naturally, so he doesn't need to strain his posture or change his facial expressions very drastically to reach some of the highest notes...since they are basically trained to sing high notes even while performing hard choreography (especially Jimin, the guy who you said was probably doing the high harmonies, since he's also the main dancer) so to sing high while sitting down without showing much expressions is pretty easy for him.

Thank you for reacting to them! I'm sorry about the rude fans in this comment section. I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised lol, people tend to underestimate them because of the industry they're a part of. If you're interested, here's where each member tends to shine vocally:
Jungkook: Hugely relies on his falsetto and head voice and has a very relaxed approach. He tends to throw in some rasp when he uses his chest voice, not sure if it's stylistic or not but it sounds good to me lol. He's got phenomenal pitchy accuracy and is also the most confident with adlibs and vocal agility. He's also developing his vibrato nowadays.
V: The only baritone in the vocal-line of the group, but he holds up fairly well in the higher keys BTS' songs tend to be set in. He's got a much darker tone, and as they all do, he does use a lot of head voice but uses his chest voice more often than Jungkook. He's getting more confident with adlibs nowadays as well, and is using vibrato more often as well.
Jimin: Quite a high and feminine voice. Quite a confident user of falsetto (has sung some amazingly high notes over the years) and has some agility under his belt, second to Jungkook I would dare to suggest. Not very developed in his lows as that's clearly not his naturally comfortable area but he can still sing down there.
Jin: The most confident belter of the group, though he can push a bit too much sometimes. Most developed vibrato in the group, and he's got a nice head voice and falsetto as well. I don't think he's super confident in his vocal agility and isn't one to throw in adlibs as much as some of the others.
They're no Little Mix in terms of vocal ability but they've all got very distinctive tones and are quite standard for pop singers, and their ability to hold the melody while dancing is super impressive.

Here are the Korean rap lyrics of "I'll Be Missing You". They updated it to fit the current situation, for those people experiencing loss and hopefully seeing them again one day:
    [Suga's verse]
We're now used to our routines taken away but still can't give up living on
we're more worn out because we don't know where this ends
we're an island we made ourselves because we couldn't trust each other
hope an end comes for this tiring pandemic virus
negative thoughts can sometimes be a minus
I knew it wasn't the end so I couldn't say bye
When that day comes we'll say "hi" like nothing happened
    [J-hope's verse]
I hate this world, our traces became memories
I just empty my mind, trust without conditions
I fill it every day with just loneliness
not like the longing that encircles me
we miss you, baby, whenever it may be, here's hoping we meet again, I promise
    They also honored B.I.G:
“because It’s a tribute to the legend Notorious B.I.G.… but also the lyrics and the vibe felt so right for us. All of you… it’s kind of like a message to all the ARMY around the world.”
    - Namjoon on why they chose to cover I’ll Be Missing You

In fact you can clearly see and hear Jimin and Jin hit the high notes and all the 4 vocalist (Jin, JK, Jimin and Tae) all doing adlibs. I think you are just confused because this level of harmonization where all the tones and voice timbre are perfectly blended usually only happens with singers who are family members... She accused Jimin of lip syncing during a LIVE PERFORMANCE. That's not okay. It was completely disrespectful to Jimin who was in fact singing...and singing beautifully. She made a mistake, and didn't come back into the comment section to own that mistake and correct it.
