      I watched an Oprah Winfrey show in the spring of 1994 for the release of a Naked Gun movie, where all the stars of the movie were in a panel setting, including OJ. I remember thinking, “Something is wrong with him. Something isn’t right. He’s pre-occupied.” I grew up seeing OJ in commercials and doing NFL sideline reporting, so I knew his “happy-go-lucky” demeanor. And I saw something was wrong. I saw that Oprah show on that day in the spring of 1994 and have never been able to find it again.

    I still wear a Nebraska national champions t-shirt to honor the 93 team. There were about 6 critical calls that went against Nebraska, but only 2 were killers. They 1st one was a punt return by Cory Dixon. The official saw a clip about to be made and started to prematurely throw his flag. He then watched the return man pass by, this turning his head away from the blocker. The blocker pulled up and did not clip the man. Result Nebraska lost 6 or 7 points. The other call was a hand off to the rb. He got into the end zone but was stripped of the ball about 6 to 10 inches outside the goal line. Nebraska recovered and it was still called a touchdown. Result was 7 points for Florida State. So there were 13 to 14 points that went to FSU and Nebraska lost by 2. Conclusion is that NU would have won that game by 10 or 11 points just on those two missed calls alone. No replay rules in those days. Tough for those guys.

At 3:14 left in the game, Nebraska wide receiver dropped the ball and they said he caught it on their drive to go up 16-15. Floyd crossed the goal line the first time and they said he didn’t. Two missed calls, the punt return called back and the FSU fumble at the goal line. Nebraska still had a chance to win with a FG. This was the team that catapulted Nebraska as a yearly national championship contender and one of the greatest 5 year runs in college football history. Played and won 3 of 5 national championship games. Nebraska was a 17 point underdog and earned respect.

    • @robjohnson8861
      @robjohnson8861 Před 2 lety +2

      Poor sport.
      The FG. If we're gonna spot you the missed Neb FG, then I am sure you would spot FSU their missed FG in the 1st or 2nd qtr. And if they get that FG, Neb has a problem. They're losing by 5 at the end, not 3. A FG at the point would do them no good. No way they score 6 from where they were with the time they had.
      The goal line fumble. Listen to the long version of the game. Dick Enberg and Bob Trumpy refer back to that play many times. The best they could say was....."I don't know", not bad call like Dan Fout in the Miami/OSU goal line call where he said Bad Call, Bad Call.
      The punt return. Again, find the game where Trumpy draws on the screen. He says the call could be here or here. He directs world to the right. The block in the back was on the left is the penalty the ref called. See the red standing right no top of it.
      And the 60-3 Skip Along was a farce.

    Tommie Frazier was great. But the story of Nebraska in the 90s is the transition from the defense that faced the venerable Peter Tom Willis in 1989 that gave up 400 yds/41 pts to a defense that faced Charlie Ward in 1993 in this game. Ward was the best player on the field bar none. Without him Florida State probably scores about 6 points

    Good game but they gave Bobby his first title because it was his time. They knew Tom had put together a powerhouse program and would have dominated the 90’s more than they did. I think they could have back to back championships from 92-97. So Bobby might not have won any
    titles on his career, but they gave him this one to be sure.

      man... I might be young, but it was hella weird that with a bowl system we almost never had #1 vs #2 matchups on the field in a bowl game back them. Like in 1995: if Miami defeated Nebraska they would be champions only if Oregon defeated Penn State at the Rose Bowl.
      In 1995 Tom Osborne (Nebraska HC) defended a playoff to determine the national champion. Can you imagine the matchups we lost due to the lack of playoffs in those days? Colorado-Georgia Tech in 1990, Miami-Washington in 91, Nebraska-Penn State in 95, Michigan-Nebraska in 97
