    I beat village and all I remember from my time with it is that it introduces villains then like 30 mins later you kill em. Then at the end of the game it plot dumps there back story. I also remember complaining to a friend that you should have been able to pick where to go from the start instead of being forced to do lady Dimitrescu 1st. I wish they had gone the mgr route with the villians. Introduce them out of the blue but keep their backstories concise enough to fit into a cutscene. Then add in additional information on them (like the codec conversations with everyone during the boss fight) while going up to fight the boss.

Take the piano puzzle for example, if you miss the 3rd key no biggie, try again. You can just go down the line and hit every key until you hit the right note for each one. The game tries to be like 4 but never makes the combat as challenging as 4. It's an M rated game that treats its players like 6 year olds.

That's why I'd give it a 9/10 in terms of personal enjoyment, objectively the game is closer to a 7/10, and I understand why, the game just has a special place in my heart.

The horror and puzzles are basically gone and replaced with action and the very lose story connections are absurd. Seriously, 7 and 8 were obviously supposed to be something else and they decided to slap some lose ties to Resident Evil because the name recognition would sell. I would respect it more if they had just made it a new IP. But it's not, they slap the RE name on it so I'm going to judge it as an RE game. It's an awful RE game, just as bad as 5 and 6 in my eyes.

    • @bucket9486
      @bucket9486 Před 3 lety +8

      @@snakeplissken7194 I could honestly understand this assessment if you played on Standard or the like, but after finishing my playthroughs on Hardcore (NG) and Village of Shadows (NG+), hearing that the game never challenges the player just sounds like bullshit to me, at least when it comes to the combat encounters. People keep saying that the game is tensionless or whatever because of your relatively huge arsenal but on higher difficulties this mostly means jackshit because you tend to run out of ammo relatively quick, making you conserve your resources, genuinely think about which items to craft and maybe avoid entire encounters to survive another day. Village definitely isn't as well designed as RE4, but it still has strong moments that come close, like the Stronghold, where the game actively gives you freedom to either kill all enemies and get their drops or run your way through to avoid the risk of getting ripped apart through using stun grenades (the absolute GOAT) and the explosive barrels around the arena.
      I may be projecting a bit here, but I feel like most people who give the game so much shit played it once on Standard and left it like that, even though that is the most lukewarm way of playing it. I was actively sweating my ass off during the last third of the game due to the possibility of getting killed lurking around every corner, which is already much more praise I could give the game than I ever would for 5 and 6. Also, why do we keep pretending that RE ever had brainbusting puzzles? Aside from 1/REmake, these puzzles were almost always brainlet tier compared to series like Silent Hill. The piano one in Village is awful but everything else is pretty much in line with the rest of the games.

Incoherant, terrible storytelling that breaks continuity and can't even hope to compare to what came before them, and alone they just have empty, awful unique stories that aren't interesting on their own. Then with gameplay the had so many different fun and unique variations of the gameplay before them and just changed it and removed what made the playstyle interesting and unique. On their own they have boring combat that doesn't excite or make the game fun, just boring and tedious, and in both games the master of one thing (KH3 - Magic, and RE8 - The One OP Gun I Can't Remember The Name Of) made the game just a fest of using that one thing to beat the game.

    Fair amount of criticism. At times it did feel somewhat underwhelming, especially with Ethan's narrow characterization, and sometimes, lack of thinking. Take the Heisenberg scene for example; where they discuss teaming up. Ethan only thinks that her daughter will die if she becomes weaponized, although we never know what this will *actually* do to Rose, and the one time we see Rose again, her "weaponization" seemed to already have happened. What I mean by this is that weakening Miranda didn't even kill Rose. If I were Ethan in this situation, instead of being bloodhungry to have Heisenberg's head on a platter, I would actually ask what he means by weaponizing; I mean this is MOTHER MIRANDA: THE GOD OF THE VILLAGE AND THE STRONGEST OF THE FOUR we're talking about. I think it should have spiced up the story to have a kickass ending where Ethan never finds out about Chris's motivations until the climax, and instead of the Call of Duty section with the hordes of enemies, we have the choice of that, or instead ride Heisenberg's Cadou form and shoot down the enemies. "Oh but then we won't get to deal with the factory level and it'll be shorter" well... yeah, that's a problem, but I'm sure the writers can implement something to make it so we still have to go through with the level.
    I think in terms of story, I can see the shock value and the attempts, but I disagree on it not being a good RE game. Village is actually one of the first RE games I took interest in; probably because it tries to be an RE game for everyone. The gameplay itself kinda feels like a Metroid Prime esque stage of progression; where you get cooler weapons and skills the more you progress. Maybe its my bad taste of games, but I never really found much problems on the mediocre puzzles. But then again I don't play stiff tank control survival horror games. It always thought of a means to pass through the next area.
    Seriously, though, this is a much better gunplay game that I; a guy that REALLY HATES THE OVERSATURATION OF 3D STORY GAMES, can appreciate. I guess its the change of pace from a triple A title that I wanted to see, and I'm glad the game gave me that experience to watch and actually enjoy a Resident Evil game. But that's not really going anywhere for the franchise video games series futher along the line, in a long turn sense, It's just revisiting old past resident evil games likely with same similar stagnated gameplay design formula mainly for nostalgia reasons.
      The resident evil franchise video game series is slowly destroying itself as well as in a Dying state, also stuck in a rut. Resident Evil Village and it's prequel would be an prime example. With it's aburds story narrative/plot heavily relying on other horror related source, through horror movies, video games, psychological horror, mythology folklore tales/creatures which is pitiful, likely because there's hardly no were to go for the resident evil video game series to suitable go. All the first main-line resident evil characters are now both experience professional bioweapon experts, as well as eventually growing old unless they pass the torch on to one of their children, so the games would most likely end up like an action horror shooter survival horror video game instead of the traditional resident evil gameplay design which would basically eventually become jaded overtime. It may be time to put the resident evil video game series to rest.

      @Xeno 77, Code Veronica and RE0 definitely need remakes, not RE4. RE4 is fine the way it is except for graphics. Both CV and RE0 made mistakes that could be fixed, but not if they get lazy and rush them like they did RE3 Remake.
      Honestly, the franchise should've ended with RE5. RE6 onwards should've been their own new franchise. Or they could've fully rebooted RE instead of the half arsed soft reboot that RE7 did.
      Village in particular to me represents everything wrong with RE, well, besides RE3 Remake. Remove the name and Village is not even a great FPS on its own. It's best bits are taken from better RE games and those were vastly superior to Village.
      I don't know if RE should be put down. But Capcom definitely needs to slow down and let the franchise breath. Their milking this franchise bone dry by trying to compete with other soulless corporate AAA companies.
      Capcom has got plenty of neglected non RE game franchises. Stuff like: Dino Crisis, Onimusha, Bionic Commando, Lost Planet, etc. How about something new from one of them and stop the yearly RE milking?

    I like the game but I think 7 was a much more tightly crafted experience. I think it’s odd that RE Village gives you the items of an action focused game (loads of ammo and items) but the enemy count of a slow paced survival horror, fighting like 6 enemies at a time, if I’m leaving every single combat encounter and I don’t feel even remotely worried about my ammo count for the next fight, then the game has both simultaneously failed as an action game and as a horror game. It tried to be both at the same time and fails miserably at it. That being said, I don’t hate it, I enjoyed my time with it but I think they either need to lessen the amount of resources you have or up the enemy count because as it is now it’s severely imbalanced in your favor, which for a survival horror game isn’t a good thing. And yeah I could probably play hardcore or village of shadows but I’m not exactly masochistic, RE7s Standard difficulty still had me worried about every shot I fired, In RE8 I was never once worried. It’s a game that also disappointed me and yet I still did like it. But RE7 did it better.

Doesn't matter what series its a part of, if its a good game, then its a good (series) game. If not, then its a bad one. It seems rather silly to me to say something can be a good game but a bad series one. And you only ever hear this complaint one way, you never hear it the other way. That a bad game is a good (series) game. Because most people can all agree that its bad on its own right and its part of a series so its considered a bad game of whatever series its in.
      secondly i don't like it because it says that a series or franchise can only ever be one thing or entertain a strict list of ideas. That it can't venture too far off to try something different or reinvent itself or go in ways that its predecessors didn't. and i disagree with that. I think a series can do all that with their games. And then determine weather or not its a good game or not in its own right regardless of what series its a part of.

I enjoy the Castle segment, even the bosses for the most part. I generally dislike the whole baby segment (It literally just devolved into me yelling "Dababy lessgooo"). I disliked Moroeu's segment of the game, because it is really just too short and was really lacking. Most of that section is just the boss fight, and I despise that fight. In a few years, I'm sure we're all going to mellow out about this. I think that RE really has to change for the times, as much as we don't want it and It manages to do that well. The game has to manage to satisfy the fans and newcomers too and at the core, I think it's done well. I don't think a RE game is Resident Evil because of the title, or the characters in it, or the story. It's the spirit. A cheesy, horror spirit that despite all the years, RE can hold onto. I don't really fault sequels for not playing the same at others, especially when they're from a different field of view and movement options. I don't think this is the greatest game ever but IMO, I believe this is a good continuation of a series that from the beginning wanted to be like a movie or TV show. this game also managed to keep someone who sucks at FPS's completely invested, so I gotta give it points for that

And for the people that said the PT part of resident evil 8 is more geared toward what RE is probably haven't played most the mainline series if there's one thing I like about the old RE what's that survival horror was a thing you had to conserve ammo, Space and healing items .Know when and when not to use them. Also I let a friend of mine play the second part with the baby and all mind you he doesn't play RE much but even he said this game doesn't feel too much like it should if the game was called something else this would be pretty awesome. Something to note about Mother Miranda: she's a peasant woman from rural (almost Eastern) Europe around the time of the Spanish Flu epidemic. There's almost zero chance she'd have been able to do anything with the Mold because she would be uneducated and living in a patriarchal society. Of course, it is a game and she is a prominent character, so probability and societal norms barely apply...but it's a sticking point for me because of how oddly mundane it is. Like, that's the best backstory they had for her? She trips over the Mold and also becomes a natural virologist? Meh.

    • @vengefulretreat
      @vengefulretreat Před 2 lety

      Having access to the megamycete connects her to the hivemind we've see in both games. It's essentially like biorganic storage that can connect the consciousness of everyone who is either consumed by it or infected by it. Considering it's underneath the village, most specifically the cemetery AND Miranda would be able to catalogue anyone she wanted, she could exponentially increase her knowledge by just doing so. It's not very complicated, but the game doesn't spell it all out in a single note. It's spread out across multiple documents as well as some of the exposition coming from world building and Miranda herself.

    • @Vulgarth1
      @Vulgarth1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@vengefulretreat Again, that's not the problem. The problem is that she would have no idea how to even begin experimenting on it in the first place. She'd have no idea how to control it, how to sample it, store it, process it.
      She'd have to have a microbiologist absorbed into the megamycete to know how to absorb a microbiologist into the megamycete. It's a catch-22 where she can't get the knowledge she needs without having the knowledge she needs.
      There also wouldn't be a microbiologist interred in the cemetery for the megamycete to absorb considering microbiology wasn't even invented until sixty or so years prior to Miranda's daughter's death, and someone like that wouldn't be coming out of an illiterate farming village in rural Eastern Europe.

    • @vengefulretreat
      @vengefulretreat Před 2 lety

      @@Vulgarth1 The lycans are referred to as failed experiments in the games documents and they along with the four lords have all been implanted with the cadou which is the only thing that Miranda has managed to even create using the mold. Considering it's mostly been all failures up to this point I would say she was still learning even up until the point that we arrived in the village. The giant's chalice is the primary device needed to rebirth Rose and even that piece of technology predates her so she wouldn't have had to create it. And it seems rather rudimentary in it's overall design and implementation. So I don't think the specific scientific expertise you're looking for is really required or present at all in the story anyway. She was also studying Ethan throughout the game so she was actively gathering as much knowledge as she could to assist her in her experiments. Even up until the end she was still learning. I don't think you and I played the same game.

    I found the video interesting but I had a few issues, the Angie boss is more of a revenge trip to get back at her for torturing you while also being stressful in harder difficulties. The Baby can’t be shot because it’s a hallucination and Ethan is too scared to shoot it. Plus it’s about 6 minutes long and really isn’t as much of a hassle as you say it is.
    There’s really no issue with a baby being a plot device, the intrigue comes from what Rose is rather than who she is because she’s hinted at as a new plot relevant character in future games. Chris lost tons of people in his life and was really trying his best not to lose Ethan too by forcefully keeping him out of it, when Ethan disposed of the first 3 lords he trusted him enough to know about his wife and the situation and wanted him to help.
    The walking segments are really about 3 to 4 minutes each and really don’t affect much, also headshots do matter a lot in harder difficulties as well as late game because enemies two shot you. You can shoot weapons out of enemies hands to reduce their damage and damage to you while blocking.
    I find it weird that you only really showed early game areas with the “small amounts of enemies” Lycans start to develop tactics later on and armored variants really eat up ammo especially in the gauntlet that is the stronghold. There’s also the secret bosses you can find by exploring like the Ogres and the Varcolac Alpha which are really hard to beat.

      As for the main RE5 campaign with AI. I often just gave Sheva the stun rod or submachine gun so she wouldn't miss handgun, shotgun, and rifle ammo.
      The real horror of RE5 was running away from AI Sheva so she wouldn't waste healing items. XD
      I think they fixed that part a bit later on though.

    I think one of the games biggest flaws is the lack of back tracking essentially for a game named after its setting. I feel like there was so much of the castle we didn’t see and the fact you can’t go back to any of the Lords domains once you beat them is stupid. The game feels ultra linier.

      You can actually return to each of the lord’s domains after completing them save for the castle. Which’s a shame since I quite enjoyed it, but I guess they thought it wouldn’t be as interesting without a giant vampire constantly stalking you. You also backtrack to the village constantly and can explore new areas each time you do so, so despite the lords’s areas being fairly linear, the game as a whole definitely isn’t.

    I think the argument with Mia still being alive where Ethan was dead is the fact that MIa was effected by the mold while still alive which taking life threatening blows like she did she was able to recover, where Ethan was a freak of nature and effected after his fatality. Mia being cured means she can return to being a human being, if Ethan was cured (interesting this wasn't really pointed out, I'm sure Chris and others had them checked out after the Baker House) he would just become.... a corpse that cannot walk around? And I could agree with your theory of the cure being random in its effectiveness but to be honest Zoe isnt someone that screams a chemist that would work all the kinks out of a cure. I mean she did sort of fashion the cure out of nothing after escaping Lucas trap house. Anyways Zoe (if chosen for that route) and Jack had doses of the cure that effected them differently. But I wanna think a full cure with full success wasn't possible till Chris and his team with Blue Umbrella came in with better equipment that could fashion a better cure. After all Zoe isnt officially cured til her uncle made her a full dose in the side dlc.
