      @@Forakus do you follow The Sailing Brothers? I don’t disagree with your point. This is not a sailing channel. Equally, two great sailors, who had never left the UK and did deliveries for Asda… to fund buying a cheap boat… now sailing their (cheap) cool old boat half way round the world… that is also amazing to watch and seriously inspiring.
      I watched Mark do his first boat and his wife leave him. Been a channel of some drama.

    Yeah! Wet keels! That's a lot of progress in a short time. Rigging, take what you can get as cheap as or for free, you can always rehash it later. You will need some extra motivation over the coming winter months, being able to make her sailable in the short term would be a good target to achieve. I'm sure there will be some that are getting rerigged over the winter at that yard and would donate their old rigging that will be good for a season or so.

    • @delukxy
      @delukxy Před rokem +2

      They say replace the rigging every 10 years. An insurance company might say 7 years, especially for the main supportive rigging. Say you are going to take 10 years to go round the World it would be best to start from new. Most that comes off is because it old and past it's use by date. Might be OK for light summer coastal cruising but still risky. Best to get good stuff and don't under spec. Maybe select some good used items for emergencies. Quality shackles and blocks always worth picking up. This goes for anchor chain too. Not cheap so always a difficult decision.

    1 advice for the next job when using masking tape. Never roller up or along the masking tape, always use a brush and brush from tape away, then roller carefully close (not on) to the masking tape. This is to prevent paint bleed under the masking tape. Otherwise, a good job well done.

And then your cleaning 10 yrs of mold and filth from the inside, square by square, til you had a place to lay your head. I could hardly remember those days as I watched your boat being lowered back into the water, beautifully painted, floating and taking its place alongside other sailboats of the respectable sort. congratulations for all your courage and work . since you will soon decide on your platform design ,I share following thoughts : as offshore toilet alternative, especially for women , an asian style hole ,in the deck platform ,with lid and appropriate safety measures . 2 dark ,watertight containers ,fixed to the deck ,maybe with view protection and safety for asian toilet in mind . watertight containers strong enough to stamp with your feet in it . the rocking motions of not fully filled containers ,plus feet power will turn these watertight containers into a wash machine . a water collection surface leading into the containers during rainfall plus a water hose near toilet hole and containers will further facilitate washing of bum ( clean style for millions in Asia ,saving trees ,paper litter and storage volumes ,including use of bio soap) .
    As just one of millions who got skin cancer ,I highly recommend a roof design ,done with sturdy solar panels . wishing you the very best .

    Google translate (sorry). For the waterline you can take two plastic bottles. Return them. Cut the bottom. Mark them. Connect them to a long watering tube. Fill with water. Secure one of the bottles in front or behind the boat. You have a free water level. Only obligation: the boat must be wedged horizontally... I did it and it works.

      Also (as I’m sure you know) white also stays better looking longer. Is easy to touch up without looking patchy. And is easier to see than a darker colour on a dark sea. White maybe a bit unimaginative but I stick with white now… it’s a practical choice not a creative one.
